The skies were hers to rule, and Sarai soared across their great expanses with a fierce song in her heart. This was one of the times she felt truly alive, feeling the winds rustle through her feathers and mane as she effortlessly swept through some low-hanging clouds. If she could have, Sarai would have spent all her time in the air, but even now, she could feel the distant ache of tired muscles and pangs of hunger in her belly.
Reluctant, the angeni forced herself to descend, not recognizing the land surrounding her and not particularly caring much, either. There were no predators about that she could see, and even if she couldn't, Sarai was convinced she could handle herself without issue. With a tired huff, she dropped her head to lip halfheartedly at some tender grass shoots, already wishing she was back up in the air.
With an impatient swish of her feathered tail, she forced herself to eat faster. The sooner she was aloft, the better! She had little respect for these ground-dwelling beings...

Halaa spent precious little time looking at the sky, though as he spent most of his time in the forest, he couldn't see much of it regardless. But the little patch of land he felt was his territory and kept as such included a bit of the forest's edge, and while he disliked open spaces, it was his, and he was just as obsessively devoted to patrolling it as he was the rest of his territory. It wasn't like he had anything better to do, most days.
This day was just like most that had come before it, and after pausing to quench his thirst at the riverside, taking a moment to enjoy the clean, cool water that ran down from the mountains, he set out to make the short trek to the very fringe of his domain, to unfiltered sunlight and blue sky and clouds. Ugh.
And his timing couldn't have been better! The massive soquili arrived just in time to catch some silly flier eating his grass. Hmph. He shook out his unruly mane to fluff it up and add to the overall bulk of his appearance and stepped from the trees, clearing his throat.
"That's my grass you're eating, Wings." The gall!

Her head snapped around immediately at the sudden rumble of sound nearby, and Sarai had to admit that she was more than a little surprised to see an enormous stallion emerging from the nearby forest.
His grass?
She merely looked at him for a few seconds, making sure to take in every inch of his bulk with a deliberate, contemptuous stare. Her neck snaked out so she could snatch another mouthful of grass, chewing almost absently before she bothered to respond.
"Did you grow it? I don't see your name on it." Petty and childish? Absolutely. She flicked her tail again, swallowing before she curled her lips back in a smile that was more teeth than warmth. "You wanna fight about it?"

His frown deepened when she very deliberately snarfed up another chunk of grass, clearly attempting to mock him. Golden eyes narrowed and glared at the obstinate little flier, and he growled out an impatient explanation: "It's in my territory, and that makes it my grass, so stop eating it. Better yet, get off it."
"Fight about?" he repeated the words incredulously, making no attempt to suppress the deep laughter that rose from his throat. "You, fight me? You have got to be joking! You're nothing but feathers!"
He was never one to say no to a fight, but this was by far the most ridiculous challenger he'd ever had.

"Says you," She retorted with a snort, rolling her eyes and scuffing a hoof against the earth to rip up some more of those tender shoots. "Just like a Wingless to lay claim to a patch of dirt." It was his laughter that made her ears threaten to tip back for a second before she impatiently tossed her head, her wings flaring up to display their full magnificence.
"And you're full of hot air! But if you'd rather run your mouth, I won't stop you. I know it must take quite the effort on your part." She smiled sympathetically at him, chomping another mouthful of grass to see if that might entice him into charging.
She could only hope he'd be that dumb.Meepfur So sorry for the delay, I was out of town!

Unfortunately for Halaa, he was that dumb when it came to his obsessively-guarded territory, long on instinct and short on sense. This place was his, his, and there was no room for strangers, particularly when they were winged and antagonistic; the only way he could have disliked her more was if she'd been male! But the first two points were bad enough, and he watched her scuff up and eat his grass with rising anger. And the insults! Ooh, he'd had enough of her!
His ears flattened back into his mane and he flashed his teeth, scuffing his own hooves across the ground (it was perfectly okay when he did it, of course). He lowered his horned head and charged at her, fully expecting that one good run was all it would take to send her packing.

He was like a freight-train, roaring across the plains towards her with those massive hooves eating up the ground. Her wings pressed themselves tight against her sides as she tensed. Where he was all muscle and solidness, she was slender and light... and if he were to hit her dead on, that would be the end of this fight. She waited until he was nearly upon her when she lunged to the side, trying to avoid his charge by a few bare inches.
Her teeth snapped at his side as she passed, hoping to rake him more than actually bite. If he'd expected this to be easy, he had another thing coming!
