7:23 am - dorms Ever present coffee in one hand, folder in the other arm. He couldn't tell if this was early or late anymore, his sleep schedule was so ********. But hey, when you do your makeup as decently as he did (and took that hour just to be sure), it was almost impossible to see the baggy look under his eyes as he made his way down. He was being adventurous today--a subtle bit of eyeliner, coaxed out by Chel's persistent belief that it looked perfectly fine on him.
9:11 am - life labs (minipets lab #3) "Did you check on #350 yet?"
The trainee looked mildly terrified before she remembered. "Yeah! I think the stuff we gave him's making him lethargic, but he's doing better."
"Good."
Today it was checking on several more to see if any had bred yet; the life labs might now be torn in two, but work, like time, never stopped. Jack had been working through several generations of certain minipets for a period of time now, attempting to track the way Halloween genese worked. In particular, he had noted that there were two variations to each minipet, which in and of itself was fascinating to probably 0 people beyond himself, but if he could lock down what the deciding gene was, maybe he could be one step closer to understanding the Halloween genome. Or at least the rats'. He still wasn't sure if Halloween was governed by the same laws in this area.
2:10 pm - outside Someone had forgotten to eat lunch again. He was nibbling on something Chel had prepared while leaning against the wall outside, content to just vaguely stare out towards the fields as he ate his meager meal.
6:35 pm - dorms Dinner was forgotten in lieu of something more important: Halloween decorations. He was currently sticking a door-size Jack Skellington to Chel's door, the same one he had put up on his own door the year before, humming to himself in a rather un-Jack-like way.
9:13 pm - life labs Did he mention work never stopped? There was just one more thing to do at the labs that he had forgotten, and so out into the night he went.

9:15 om - Life labsIt was the first time Peyton had left her room voluntarily in a little over a week, but this excursion was unavoidable. Quint and Jessel were out of Fear candies, and no matter how miserable the Sun was, she wasn't willing to let the cat's starve. If she had asked, she was fairly certain Andy would have run to the labs for her, but she had been avoiding him off and on as her moods had shifted. Honestly, she didn't have a clue why he hadn't just washed his hands of her at this point. Her indecision concerning him was irritating even to herself. But she hadn't called him. Instead she'd headed out on her own, moving quickly with the intentions of getting into the labs and out again quickly before anyone had a chance to ask painful questions she had no desire to answer. Head down, she didn't notice as she caught up to the jolly green giant.

2:14PM Outside
Rhys was on his way to...somewhere that wasn't his dorm...when he saw someone just outside one of the buildings; he wasn't sure which. He squinted his sea green eyes in the person's general direction as he took a bite out of the apple he was working on, wondering who it was and why they were just standing there. To each their own, of course, and if they were being pensive he really didn't need to know. Nor did he want to know. He stopped walking and and waited, curious if something interesting was about to happen or if the person was really just standing there (and eating lunch, it seemed).OOC Name: Rhys Donovan Journal: click

9:15pm - life labs
He was engrossed in a folder of complicated scrawl, some of which wasn't in English, when someone bumped him. In no mood to get interrupted, he looked up sharply and readied an insult when noticed it was a very familiar someone.
Jack said nothing for a moment. And then he snapped the folder closed as if it were a book (all pages thankfully hole punched and pinned neatly). "What do you want now, Creedy?" It was his natural assumption to think she was there because of him.

His phone went off--Chel's reminder to actually eat. But Jack was busy staring at the trainee staring at him, eyebrows lifting slightly as he chewed.
"Are you looking for something?"

9:15 pm - life labsThe minor collision was startling to both parties. Peyton jerked back as if she'd been burned, looking up with eyes a touch to wide, vaguely red rimmed, and sporting the telltale bruised look of someone that hadn't been sleeping. "Nothing." It was automatic, the end all answer to any question that had come her way lately. Lips pressing into a thin line, she made a move as if to hurry off, then seemed to think better if it, pausing, though not looking up at him. "Unless you know who I need to tak to to get more food for minis." He probably did. Peyton didn't. The cats had always come to her with plenty of food when left in her care. Of course, no one was coming back to retrieve them anymore.

2:14PM Outside
The sudden question threw him and he chewed on his apple quietly for a bit longer before eventually shaking his head. "Nah, just wondering if something interesting's about to happen," he said casually and looked around, as if he was looking for something or someone else. There was no one, of course, except the two of them.
He shrugged. "Guess not."OOC Name: Rhys Donovan Journal: click

9:15pm - life labs
In the past he would have relished that quiet, stressed look. Now he couldn't care less, either about it or about her.
"Down the hall, to the left, check the cabinet in that closet," he monotoned. The only reason Jack knew was because trainees often asked him where it was during his particular experiments.
Finding his seat, he leaned back and began thumbing through to find his spot again. "Let me guess: it's a cat. Spinsters always get cats."

2:14pm - outside
Jack ate the rest of his lunch thoughtfully, still eyeing the man. When he finished, he asked, "What's your name, trainee?"

9:15 - Life labsThere had been a certain wariness that always came when dealing with Jack, but his lack of biting response, while odd, was appreciated. Not for her benefit, she was sure, but she wasn't going to question it, not today. Again she turned to leave after he answered her question, and again she paused to frown up at him. "Not mine," she started, shook her head, and started over. "I inherited them."

By the time the question came Rhys was still only halfway through his apple and about ready to leave. He blinked at first, then swallowed what was in his mouth before answering.
"Rhys."
He took another bite of his apple as he watched the other man, brow quirked, and eventually asked, "You?"OOC Name: Rhys Donovan Journal: click

He paused his humming and glanced at Leslie. "'Course I am, Shitstain," Jack said almost jovially as he fixed one of Skellington's arms. "Shitty job or not, it's still my birthday."

"Rhys," he echoed, glancing at the man's coat. "Well, congratulations, Rhys from Mist division, you'll be happy to know I'll be signing you up for several test trials some of my colleagues have been working on, once I return to my shift. Should make your stay here plenty interesting."

He wasn't sure whether he should've been nervous or scared or nonchalant, so his reaction to the statement was probably a weird mix of the three and furrowed brows to top off the odd look. "Uh...that doesn't involve turning me into some freak mutant, right?"OOC Name: Rhys Donovan Journal: click

9:15 pm - life labs
"Ah." A footnote, a barely glanced at blip in the continuous track of life. Jack flipped a page and began to look for his pen. "Aren't you just the center of loss these days. Well, you know where the food is now. Move along."

2:14 pm - outside
His mouth quirked to the side. With his meager meal finished, he wiped his hands on a napkin and then balled it up as he straightened from the wall he had been leaning on.
"If you're lucky, that's the most that will happen," Jack said just to mess with Rhys as he began to walk back to the Life Labs. Although to be honest, with Life experiments, who honestly knew?
