"A quiet morning, not that it's what I was hoping for." The ocean and sky painted mare murmured to herself. "Not surprising, since Vassilis is busy... But honestly I'm a little disappointed, I was rather hoping a bit of trouble could be rustled up..."

Finding trouble was easy when you were a slip of a flutter mare, and Dyani Alumine was exceptionally adept at it. This was partially because she'd march headlong into any situation that looked vaguely difficult. She was always on the side of "the little guy", and took offense when faced with bullies of any sort. This lead to her throwing herself nose-first into situations that weren't her business. Her trouble or not, she hated bullies and once she was aware of a situation there wasn't really a way to keep her out of it. She had always been that way.

Of course, the one thing she had learned since coming to this land was that it was much more fun to find trouble with friends. It didn't hurt that said friend was rather, giant, and dashing... Even if said friend was less than enthusiastic about the trouble, so long as they were along it was almost guaranteed to be an amusing affair.

"Poor Vassilis." She murmured to herself, amusement swelling as she thought of the many-winged stallion that had become her best friend. No doubt he was sleeping, resting after their scuffle. Dyani herself had slept for a time, then gone racing through the woods and was now flittering among the the honeysuckle flowers in search of breakfast. "I owe you a nice gift when I get back, I think.. You didn't really need to save me from that Kalona, I had it under control."

Arriving in a strange land was always exciting, even for Amacha Nigella who had been traveling most of her life. The black fluttercorn was an accomplished wanderer and a veteran traveler, still, arriving in a new place got into her blood like nothing else. Perhaps it was the untapped potential of the land? The uncountable adventures she has yet to have, the pranks she has yet to play, the mysteries undiscovered and games unfound. Whatever it was, she was excited about this new place and all that lay within it.

Amacha had arrived with the land on the heels of the Lapsang Reenactment War Troup and the traveling merchants that accompanied them. Able to brew and serve a good pot of tea, weave a few good stories and make some excellent daisy crowns and chains for the amusement of foals, Amacha was otherwise a wanderer. She had no real calling or trade, but could lend a helping hoof to just about anything. As such, there was no wares to arrange or preparations to make, so she took advantage of the rest time after arrival. While many of the merchants would rest and then set up their wares, Amacha was free to spend her time exploring the new area.

Sooner or later she'd find a home to settle in, one she could make a little mischief and find a few friends in. Maybe this would be the one, but she wouldn't know for sure until she got a good look around.

"Lovely flowers are always a plus." She murmured as she drew to a halt, considering the flowering shrubs. "Honeysuckle are my favorite..."
PostPosted: Sun Oct 18, 2015 6:20 pm

Now fed on honeysuckle and idly chewing on one of the flowers, Dyani landed and frisked through the shrub, admiring the underside of emerald leaves filtering sunlight onto the grass below. The grass itself stood like a miniature forest around her, curving strands tickling her ears and wings until she laughed. It was another one of her amusements, to flit through the forest as her smaller self and dance beneath the branches. If she had to gain her smaller size, at least she could have some fun with it!

"Maybe I should challenge Vassilis to hide and go seek like this? With all his eyes and me being small, it seems like it'd be a fair fight... It'd probably take forever, that'd be fun." She mused, then dissolved into giggles. "Yes, definitely doing that next time..."

Pleased with the plot she capered along, halting suddenly at the sound of arriving hooves. Muffled by the grass and lightly stepping though they were, they sounded nearly thunderous while down on the ground. Crouching among the grass and in the shadow of the bushes, she listened as the flutter mare murmured to herself.

A stranger and a newcomer, by the sound of it.

Regaining her larger size, Dyani gave the stranger a winning smile. "What a coincidence, they are mine as well. Forgive me, I'm Dyani Alumine. You sound like a stranger, so I bid you welcome."

"Good fortune with the grazing, and ample herd land here, and the company so far has been excellent..." The black mare pondered aloud, blue eyes skating over her surroundings. "Pleasant surroundings, over all... Well, these are all good things to be found in a new homeland.. It is naturally not without its detractors and dangers, but that is to be expected... And such things can be overcome with enough positives in place."

Snatching up a mouthful of sweet meadow grass, Amacha considered the flowering hedges for a moment. She wanted to dive right in, of course... But she had a tendency to be rash and impulsive and was trying to be a bit better about that. Besides, they'd probably be best if she had a bite to eat and then had some of the nectar for dessert... So she took a second bite and gave a contented flick of her cat-like tail.

The sudden appearance of an ocean-colored flutter mare made her jump, shying sideways in a half-rear. "Oh!"

The abrupt apology and introduction gave her pause, and the smile made her blink in surprise before she giggled in amusement. Oh, this little mare had fire... Maybe they could be friends.

If they could, they would certainly have fun.

"Goodness me, quite an unexpected surprise." She murmured as she recovered, shaking her head faintly. "Do forgive me if I've interrupted... I was just wandering, and I am new in this land. My name is Amacha Nigella, and it is lovely to meet you Dyani Alumine."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 30, 2015 8:06 pm

Plucking another flower and sipping at the nectar, Dyani gave a flick of her short fawn-like tail, silent and contemplative. The soft expression of surprise on the stranger's face made her smile, golden eyes glinting in quiet amusement. There didn't seem to be any darkness in this one at all, except on her coat. The shying gesture showed she was light on her hooves, not surprising for a Unicorn or a Flutter, much less a cross. Even the mare's words were soft, her tone sweet and shocked, her words a decidedly ladylike statement. All of them were worlds away from Dyani's own gunpowder and nails temper.

The opposite characteristics of their nature intrigued Dyani, so the CeryFlutter mare picked her way closer, her ocean-spray colored hooves moving in dainty steps across the grass. She used the distance to assess the other mare, wings flicking idly before settling. The stranger was interesting, all night black from nose to hooves. The color flecks of color on her were the bright sky shade of her eyes and her horns, similar to Daliu's own coat. Not enough to make her wonder if the stranger was from her old herd, but enough to stir a soft feeling of kinship. As such her smile was wide and playful.

"Sorry again." She offered, unable to keep the expression and tone from going a little impish. "It wasn't exactly my intention to startle you, more of a happy accident? No offense meant, at any rate."

Dya inclined her head at the introduction. "Lovely to meet you, Amacha Nigella. Please do feel free to call me Dyani, it is a bit simpler. I take it you are new to this land, perhaps brought here by the festival? Between it and the new Faire and Troupe, it is a very exciting time!"

It wasn't hard to guess the mare had tagged along with either the Festival or the Faire and Troupe, one reason or the other was behind most of the new faced she'd seen about. True enough she hadn't actually talked to any of them before now, but Amacha seemed gentle and sweet and a little lost. A harmless new friend, and perhaps someone she could talk into a bit of trouble. (She rather missed trouble, and her current companions wouldn't hear of it.)

"I have had many fine cups of tea and various treats, and the artisans and showmen are very skilled at their craft. Are you by chance among their number, or just another spectator like myself? And do feel free to tell me if I am being too bothersome or nosy, my brother would if he were here and I'm afraid that without a keeper my curiosity can get the best of me." She winked one golden eye, and then grinned.

Amacha could tell that she had made the strange mare's day by jumping as she did, though there was no malicious intent behind the other's golden eyes. It was more a playful, wicked amusement. As though this stranger was some kind of trickster spirit, looking for someone to play a little joke on. Amacha was no stranger to that herself, though she preferred to ply her trade on big fish (or the big fish that ate big fish). There was something infinitely satisfying to trick some big, lumbering brute into chasing after a pretty little light... and then letting him sink into the muck. As far as she knew the Skinwalkers always got away, sooner or later... But it usually bought time for the unaware natives to scatter before the monster did, therefore avoiding being eaten.

Which made Amacha kind of a hero, right? Well, at least that was how she rather preferred to think of it. A mischievous hero of the people, who was mostly out for everyone's safety but didn't mind at all if there was a bit in it for her too... Even if all it amounted to was the satisfaction she got from tricking something bigger and scarier than her.

With a flick of her catlike tail, Amacha shoved the thoughts aside for another time. Wicked or no, Dyani was stepping closer to her and assessing all the while. Taking the opportunity to return the favor, Amacha fluttered her wings idly.

"You don't much sound sorry, but no harm was done so I don't much mind." She returned. "Capital trick, really. If I'd been drinking from a stream or one of those teacups, we might really have had an issue. A pleasure to meet you as well, Dyani, and if we're dispensing with the second names you are welcome to call me merely Amacha."

Nodding her head in a gesture that stirred her short mane, the dark mare shifted lightly on her hooves. 'Yes, arrived just after the Troupe and the Faire and everyone here for the tea party. Couldn't quite pass it up? The flowers in the garden smell so lovely, and everyone seems to be having a wonderful time. I'm happy to be wherever such excitement is, and that was before I saw some of the shows they put on and the wares they sell. While I'm no artisan, I can certainly admire their craft... And I link to think of myself as a bit of an expert on most of the food and drink they are serving. It's all been delicious."

She laughed at the soft dare. "Not too nosey at all, since I seem to be learning just as much about you as you are about me, I should think it is a fair exchange. "

Usually amused by even the faintest alarm, Dyani flicked her tail and made no comment as she watched the dark-coated mare relax. The glint of her horn was a sky-hued distraction, curling proudly from her brow. Idly, the CeryFlutter wondered if this stranger could heal, and decided to add it to her list of questions.

"Harmless surprise, and you recovered very well." She pointed out. "Makes me fairly sure that I didn't scare you all that badly, and I'm rather glad of it. I bet you have a rough streak if someone really upsets you, and I must say this is going rather well. It'd be a shame to mess it up now. As such, I'm sorry, but only a very little because it was rather funny. Fair enough?"

Imagining the stranger doing a rather dramatic spit-take or perhaps coughing on her tea when surprised, the ocean and sky painted mare gave a soft giggle. The image was funny, partially because it hadn't happened and so she was free to make the scene as ridiculous as she wanted within the safety of her own mind. "Oh, if you were drinking tea I certainly would have let you finish first. One doesn't waste tea, even for a joke. Water would be another thing entirely. As for being unable to pass up the whole grand event, I don't blame you in the slightest. I'm quite glad I stumbled across it all, for it's rather unlike anything I've ever visited before. I understand they'll be making regular rounds, and I confess I plan to get some information before they go. If it's close enough, I'd like to attend at least one other."

Listening to the soft laugh Dyani grinned widely, nodding her head. "Yes, exactly. Why if we keep this up, we'll be friends by the end of the evening. My brother would be so put out to be proven wrong."

Were he there, of course. Not that Dyani knew where in the lands Mikasi had gone off to. She'd left the herd, and thought that would rather be the end of it. There was no point for her to stay there, she wasn't hardly one of them. They were mostly too soft, too sweet to care for the games and the tricks and the sport that she and Mikasi liked. Maybe he'd settled down after she left, found himself a nice mare and raised some foals without his heathen sister to stir him to trouble.

Then again, maybe he was bored to tears without her and would come looking for her soon enough. One never did know, but until then, Dyani would make a new friend or two. There had to be someone here who liked causing trouble just as much a she did, and if not right there, Dya was willing to bet Amacha was close enough for it to work in a pinch.

"So, if you're not an artisan or a warrior or an actor." She began with a faint grin. "What do you do, Amacha?"

"One learns to be light on their feet, in my kind of work." Amacha demurred, her black tail flicking from side to side. Finding a fellow trickster spirit was a gleeful twist on her day, the black Fluttercorn had to admit. "Harmless indeed, and I thank you for the compliment. I must admit that the lying-in-wait tactic was quite successful, even if spooking me wasn't your intent. With a bit of practice, it could be quite a tactic indeed."

The lighter mare's comments had her grinning widely, giving a soft laugh as she nodded. "Well, it's a bit funny you should say so, though I am glad indeed you didn't really frighten me. I have indeed been told I've got a bit of a mean streak, and scaring me would certainly lead to that side cutting loose. Still, no harm done. Really I'm just thinking up what fun we could have if we decided to ally ourselves for awhile."

She gave Dyani a keen look, blue eyes glittering as the mare giggled softly. She may indeed be onto something, with the idea of them working as a team here and there. "I thank you for your respect of tea time, then! Not that playing such a trick on someone else is out of the question, but I think water would be kinder than a hot beverage. That might actually hurt someone, aside from a waste of good tea."

Shaking her head, Amacha put that plan aside for now. She was far more interested in hearing about the movements of the Faire and merchants, for their wares were fine and the entertainment some of the best she'd seen. "I agree that the event is fine indeed, and if they do not move too far I would also like to visit again. I am sure there are events that change with each venue, and that is always interesting to see. Besides, with how large the Faire is, you could visit a dozen times and not see everything. Finding something new each time is what makes it so grand."

Though she was an only child, she could appreciate the glee the lighter mare found in proving her brother incorrect. "Well, I am always happy to prove a stallion wrong. And making a new friend on top of things? Count me in."

The question of her role was not unexpected, though Amacha did rather wish she could take credit for making some of the beautiful things she had seen at the Faire. "I am somewhat of a trickster, I suppose you could say. I can also heal quite well and am adept at blending and trading teas. I know where a variety of wild plants grow, and tend to harvest them for my own tea-making. And you? May I ask if you have a vocation or hobby that helped draw you to this place?"
PostPosted: Fri Jul 29, 2016 4:52 pm

Dyani gave her bell-like laugh, admiring the mare's gentle attempt at modesty. It rang like a somewhat hollow one, as though Amacha knew exactly how impressive her skills were and perhaps did not wish to admit how much time she had put in to honing them. The whole thing made Dya like her all the more, feeling as though this mischievous mare was indeed a kindred spirit. If they decided to work together, they really could make Mikasi's head spin, and oh what fun that would be!

"I am sure that much is true, and you do yourself credit." Dyani returned lightly. "As for making it a tactic I regularly employ, I am not sure that it would be all that successful. My prey is usually, not so forgiving or cooperative. Besides which, I have very little interest in getting that close to them. Walkers and Kalona can be so frightfully rude, particularly when you startle them or play tricks. Great bores, the lot of them; but it is what makes pranking them so fun, when one can pull it off."

Listening to the mare speak her thoughts on allying them, Dyani danced on her hooves, flicking her fawn-like tail in glee. "Allying ourselves would prove most amusing, I think... Particularly if you'd agree to help me in playing a trick or two on my elder brother... He's a bit if mischief all on his own, and any day I can pull something on him is a good day. With you on my side, I'm sure we'd stand twice the chance of success."

The fact that Mika was handsome probably wouldn't hurt, either. But that was a discussion for another time, if Amacha agreed to them working together. The mention of tea and the wares had her grinning all over again, fawn ears flicking and bells jingling merrily.

"I have the highest respect for tea time, I assure you. As for the Faire, I agree that each trip turns up new wonders. There is no end to the amazement I feel over all the different crafts. The glass and pottery and ceramics and jewelry and scarves and all the different tools and trinkets and wares. I covet so many things, I hardly know where to begin with buying and trading." Dyani gave another smile, making a note of the mare's talents for healing and herb gathering. "I myself am something of a trader of unique items and ingredients. Between that and the unofficial delivery service I've established for myself, I admit I am quite busy. When I'm not doing those things, I tend to be exploring with friends, and playing my share of jokes."

Amacha grinned widely at her new associate's smile and soft laughter, shrugging faintly and fluttering her wings. So then, Dyani had picked up on her pride at her skill, or knew that there was more than luck behind it. That in itself was fun, made her think that this mare was worth getting to know.

"Ah, when hunting larger game I am sure that distance is infinitely preferrable to a clever hiding spot. Pit traps and snares can certainly be of use, if it's Kalona and Skinwalkers that you're dealing with." Amacha nodded faintly. "If you are so keen to catch or trick some of those, you are clever indeed. It would be delightful if you'd let me accompany you, in such endeavors."

Her ears flicked at the mention of a more personal prank, and she quietly admitted that Dyani was lucky indeed to have a sibling... Especially one with a player's soul like their own, whom she was apparently prone to trading pranks with. This would be quite fun indeed.

"Tricking one's siblings is quite entertaining in itself, I am sure." She mused with a faint smile. "If the case arises that I can offer assistance in this matter, I am happy to do so. I find the idea compelling, and would be happy to help."

She nodded faintly when the mare spoke of her fondness for the festival and the unique wares, agreeing strongly to the points Dyani made. Still, the mention of the mare's courier service was interesting, especially if she had an established network of sources that she could pull resources from. Tea ingredients, medicines, herbs and spices and wares that were easy to transport would be helpful resources.

"Do you offer a service of delivering messages or news, or is it just useful objects to trade? Depending on the distance between resource herds, I imagine it is very useful to have such a network established, even if it is in the early stages. I understand the Renaissance herd and all their vendors do a great deal of work, but having local resources or herds to host them probably helps their travel circuit go smoother."

She shifted on her hooves for a moment, flicking her long tail. "Let's say... If you could arrange a network that had knowledge or worked with the Faire, or worked to pool resources such as good timber for structure or cook fires, or herbs and the like for tea or food, it would be useful indeed. Like knowing someone at the shore that could provide you with shells to trade far inland for colored stones, to take to artists and trade for something else. The what of it isn't something you'd need the specifics of at the moment, but the spirit of cooperation across the herds or distance might open access to ingredients and encourage stronger trade relations as well as offering new materials to an area."

Amacha blinked her bright blue eyes, then shook her head with a soft laugh. "I'm sorry if that came out a little overwhelming, I don't even know if it made sense. The idea was just the exchange of wares usually not available in a location might encourage the creation of all sorts of things. It would be quite an opportunity."
PostPosted: Tue Apr 25, 2017 3:21 pm

Dyani laughed again when Amacha grinned, repeating the mare’s faint shrug. “There is no shame in a job well done, or taking pride in one’s skill. But if your talent is for trouble, I definitely think we should be friends. And if we can use all of that against my brother, well, then I am even more for it! Mikasi needs all the excitement I can arrange for him, I assure you.”

Putting the matter of her brother aside for a moment, the sky-colored mare gave a serious nod. Pranking Skinwalkers required a certain measure of caution, no small amount of luck, and a bit of distance was always welcome. Still, if distance was in short supply, a good hiding place could work in a pinch. Or a swift escape.

“If you want to come along, I would welcome company on a Walker hunt. Having someone to speak with would make the whole situation much more pleasant, as we agree, they are boorish brutes. If not, then yes the offer to prank my brother remains. I warn you he’ll probably sulk afterwards? But he can be quite charming, if he puts his mind to it.”

Warming to the possibility of sharing news about the courier service, Dyani shifted on her hooves and sent her bells to chiming again. “Oh! Well if the occasion calls for it I can certainly deliver messages and news. Those that are written would be best carried along with trade items, but I do have a pretty good memory. I think I could manage to keep a few things stored up in my head, especially if I knew where I was going. Of course, if there were instructions involved for a place I’d never been to, a short message or a bit of news would be an easier way to start.”

Dyani considered the idea for a moment. “I can’t say that I serve as a front runner or a messenger for the herd, though I believe they have such a thing? Likely formed of their own people, but advanced scouts to speak with host herds and select an area for the faire to be set. Maybe some of their security team? They have many familiars that work with them to keep an eye on the faire from the air, I am sure they might help? Though that only does part of the work… If we could get some contacts within the local herds, someone running their own messenger service would be able to advise of timber or groves of herbs, as you said. There is a group that have a report system for walkers and dangerous Kalona? I know a few of them, we share news easily. They might even help, though it’s not the main reason they’re in contact, they would certainly say if a poisonous plant grove was located, to keep the foals away. So the reverse may also be true…”

She beamed, golden eyes lighting up. “I'm not sure I know of any that mine stones, but they would be good to meet! Oh, this is most exciting! Well, come on then! This was your idea, so come along! I have a few friends to introduce you to.”

It seemed her attempt at modesty was a weak one, which was fine enough. Amused, Amacha Nigella laughed and inclined her head. “Alright, alright, guilty as charged, I suppose? You have me; I definitely take pride in a job well done! Particularly when that job is trouble, or mischief, either of which I feel I can admit to excelling at, without risk of exaggeration.”

She shifted lightly on her hooves, giving a flick of her long, leonine tail. “I confess I do not know the trials of having a brother, I am afraid. I have only sisters, whom I have not seen in quite a long time. So I cannot say I know what it is like to have a male sibling (and their tempers) to annoy, but I would be glad to help you anyway I can! I don’t suppose he’ll take to being bested by two girls any better than one, but that is his burden to carry.”

The black mare laughed, flaring her wings and folding them to her back once more. “Oh, rest assured that his sulking won’t bother me at all. Whether he wants to be charming or no, the prank should be amusement enough. If he does pout, we can laugh at him for reacting the way a sulky colt would. And if he is charming, well, then I can enjoy his charm, I suppose. Witty friends are always welcome company. Even if those witty friends feel that the most amusing thing is to taunt Skinwalkers. I relish in adventure and new experiences, so I will certainly do my part.”

Tilting her head thoughtfully, Amacha lipped up another honeysuckle blossom. “Personal messages would be something else, altogether, I agree. You’d need to remember directions and a description of the party and the message and their name and so on… Though if you had a familiar that could make notes and write along, delivering messages might work too? But bits of news, ‘Faire on the Way, Skinwalker Sighted, Kalona Arrived’ stuff like that would be easy to remember and carry to herds that need the knowledge. With a familiar that could take notes, you could save details about when the Faire was expected, what they would need to set up, what herds they were planning to visit and for how long. I think they have map-makers too? So your familiar could bring the map of the Faire course and show them where the stops were planned, and you could take news back to the Faire group as well?”

She gave a faint shrug and then laughed at Dyani’s enthusiasm. “You wouldn’t have to replace any of the work that their teams wanted to do. But, if you could arrange for a local network to help in the spirit of cooperation… Then maybe you could free some of them to see to other preparations needed on behalf of the herd? Oh… I take it we’re going now then?”

Amacha laughed, loping after the shorter mare. “Very well then, I am never adverse to making new friends.”
