Chel held up her hand towards the light a little more and snickered to herself. When she'd woken up and found it in her grasp she hadn't remembered shoving it in her pocket later, and having refound it after a spar she'd stuck it on her hand.
It was terrible for Jack and wonderful for Chel that Creation had gifted them an irony in the form of a ring. She didn't want to make Jack propose (she was getting more and more uncomfortable at the impending seriousness, actually) but a chance to tease him about anything was truly her life's passion.
So she sent a text and waited, hands crammed into her pockets to keep the "surprise" in tact.

And as with any surprise she attempted on him, it wasn't going to work as well as she wanted. Jack had a sneaking suspicion his dream ring wasn't the only artifact appearing (at least, if that's what these were), what with Leslie having already confirmed his own odd object. The question thus was what was she going to spring on him?
Signing off from work, he shot her a text stating he was on his way and eventually hit the training field after a few minutes. Coincidentally, he also had his hands pocketed as he approached.
"Sup." He took a quick glance around to make sure Chris wasn't in on it as well; he wouldn't put it past the terrible twosome. "What new bauble are you going to use to kick my a** today?"

It wasn't so much the surprise that mattered, but the endless, endless torture that was going to follow.
"Don't need more than my hands to do that," she taunted, enjoying the paranoid look in his eyes more than she should have with their history. Paranoid usually meant bad. "You lookin' for another girl with a surprise or somethin'?"

Just her hands...? Oh...God damn it, no. Please let his hasty conclusion be wrong. One was bad enough.
"No. What is it?" he asked, getting straight to the point.

"Good 'cause I'd have to beat her up," Chel said with a nod.
Seeing as tension was never a thing Chel liked building, she pulled the one hand from her pocket and held it up. "I'm gettin' married."

His mouth quirked, but the sight of the dreaded ring snuffed it out. Turning his gaze upwards in something almost like an eye roll, Jack gave a short sigh through his nose and pulled out his own ring.
"Hilarious, but I have to object. Let me guess: weird dream, wandering around until you found it, and then woke up and there it was."

Chel's hand fell and she even stomped her feet a little bit.
"Oh c'mon! It's no fair f'you got one too." She crossed her arms. "Yeah that's what happened. Goddammit Hawthorn."

One of these days he'd remember to let her have her fun; on this, though, he just couldn't.
Giving a shrug, Jack pocketed his hand again and said, "I'm surprised you're not mocking me more. Even a ******** legacy got a ring on you before I did." It might have been a serious lament, or it might have been a wry joke. "Has yours done anything so far?"

"Well I was gonna, but it's no fun f'you got plant-engaged too." She was a few steps away from kicking him in the shins- she really should have given his disposition. Yet she knew that wouldn't do anything except maybe make her feel a little better. Still tempting.
"It hasn't done nothin'. I can even take it off and stuff." She pulled it off to demonstrate, then put it back on. "Don't think it's bad at least."
She reached up to fiddle with the collar on his shirt. "Besides makin' fun of you I was gonna ask f'you wanted to fight, see f'it does anything there."

"Ah yes, the old artifact checklist again." Hopefully it wouldn't be as bad as when they had tested her last artifact.
"Sounds like a date," he said with a better smile, leaning in as if this were something covert. "No excuses about being out of practice this time, though."

It really wasn't a good idea to taunt someone who could launch an arrow into the bottom of your chin.
Which Chel did, with enough force to knock him backwards. As the rest of Tenebrae formed she fired another one to push him further; she needed range.

She felt her pocket burning and she looked down only for a moment to notice her hydra's bracelet was literally creating a hole in it. Yet she didn't lament the impending tailoring that would come; instead she looked at Jack with a wolfish grin.
"No excuses," she reminded him, her next arrow glowing the familiar blueish-green that signaled her scale's activation. While normally Jack would have had time to recover or dodge the scale made it so she fired one shot so fast he couldn't have possibly dodged.
She blew some of the smoke off her bow for extra dramatic effect.

He had Owain out a split second before the arrow came, though it almost didn't matter. Dazed from the first arrow, Jack could only pull the blade up to defend himself as he gathered his wits again, moving back for his own benefit until the barrage ended.
He himself made a show of rubbing his jaw in return. "That's more like it," he said rather pleasantly, despite the pain. And then it was back to pushing her as he closed the distance and swung.

Chel easily slid under his slow swing. Who was the rusty one now?
From there she ran a few paces back, trying to put some distance between her and Jack. "C'mon pretty boy!" she taunted, lapping up the irritation on his face. Sparring with Chris was always more comedically fun, but Jack could be entertaining too in his own way.

Well, it was better than some of her other insults. But it seemed taunting was a dangerous thing to do for either of them, as Jack put on a sudden burst of speed to pursue. It was all for fun, sure, but it didn't mean Chel was free to do potshots unpunished.
"Nothing?" he promoted as he thrust the sword. He had t not iced anything different when her other artifact had lit up.
