While waiting for Caroline to make the short walk over to his cabin, Liam had taken a moment to go through the cleaning supplies he had managed to pick up from the quartermaster earlier that day. There was the usual; glass cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, paper towels, a rag, a broom and dust pan, a sponge with a scouring pad on side. All the usual things one might need if they intended to clean. Or at least all the things Liam was aware of, or was used in the dorms. With a thoughtful hum he looked up from the bottles, head turning to glance back over his shoulder at his bed. He hadn't bothered making it, blankets and pillows in disarray. Frowning, he crossed the small room to take care of that. Caroline had a maternal air about her. More so than the other university leads. Corey and Charlie reminded him of older siblings(not that he had any), but Caroline reminded him of his own mother.

Though she had considered wearing the sweater Liam gave her, Caroline settled on the coat she'd been assigned, resolving that she didn't much care if it got ruined while she was cleaning. There was no sentimental value in it, and she guessed she could just get a new one; she owned only one Liam-given sweater, in comparison. It only took crossing into the eternally rainy outdoors for her decision to be validated. When she arrived at his door, she knocked once before trying to open it, and stepped right inside when she found it unlocked. "Hi Liam! It's raining, surprise, wanted to get in quickly. To not mess up your floors more. And it's cold." One hand was covering her eyes, because she'd definitely intruded without a safe amount of time between knocking and coming inside. The other was held out and waiting for a hug, knowing that he was better at them. "Are we safe?" She parted her fingers for just a tiny peek to make sure she was in the right cabin. That mistake was not one she'd accounted for.

There was a knock, then almost immediately the sound of his door opening and an enthusiastic greeting. He turned to find Caroline walking into his cabin, hand over her eyes, a bright smile on her face, and arm outstretched for a hug she'd already known was coming. When she peeked between her fingers he smiled at her, stepping in to wrap her in a hug. And though the question did not entirely fit the context of this situation, he answered it all the same. "Yes we are." At least here, in the moment, they were safe. "You're all wet. Do you want a towel?" He turned, glancing around the open layout of the room, then finally wandered over to pull the ducky towel from the old knapsack they'd found him with. Everything he'd had was still in there, not that he remembered finding any of it, but he'd washed it all, packed it neatly again. Couldn't bring himself to get rid of anything, not even the horribly mauled jersey. Turning again, he offered it out to her. "I know it's all beat up, but I washed it, it's clean."

The hug was met with pleasant laughter as Caroline returned it, planting a kiss in his hair before she pulled away. "Yeahh, a little bit," she conceded, wrinkling her nose at the dripping water that was beginning to accumulate where she stood. "And you still hugged me anyway! Sweet of you." As he looked around the room, she followed suit, taking in the sight of it. Not too bad, and better than sleeping in a tent like some of them were. It would be much better by the time they were done with it, anyway. Her attention moved back to Liam when he handed her the towel, and she laughed again at the sight of it. "Thanks. It's not--I just never thought it'd be ducklings that survived an apocalypse." She took her coat off first, folded it, and set it next to the door, and began drying off when she was no longer making more of a mess. While she worked on wringing the rainwater out of her hair, she smiled over at him. "But...I'm glad the ducklings did." Despite the urge to insist on washing it and returning it later, she neatly folded the damp towel up before extending it towards him.

"Well yeah, of course I did. It's just water." Water wasn't going to hurt him. He spent about 50% of his time these days wet anyways. What was a little more? He chuckled at the duckling bit, nodding. "It's definitely got character. Kinda wish I knew where it came from." A soft hum as he brought up a hand to rub along the back of his neck thoughtfully, then he was looking up at her as she started to dry off. "Can I ask you something that might sound kind of crazy?" It was something he wanted to ask all of them, but hadn't, just in case he really was crazy.

She nodded once in agreement with the sentiment of wanting to remember the origins of all of this, and started to laugh at what she thought was a joke. Surely he wasn't really concerned that he would sound crazy to her. He did seem awfully sincere at the moment, though, so she stopped herself and gave him a warm smile instead. "Liam. Baby." She reached to pat him on the cheek with a gentle, maternal affection. "Not a word you say to me is ever going to sound crazy. But it's sweet of you to ask. What's bothering you?"

The smile returned as she reached out to pat his cheek. "It's just, that bag of stuff, I don't know where I got it." He glanced over his shoulder at it, then back at her. "And all the clothing I was wearing when we woke up here was pretty much shredded, I've got injuries I don't remember getting..." He drew up the sleeve on his left arm, showing off one of the bites, then pointing at the bruise on the side of his jaw. "I can't remember. I feel like there's this big gap of things I'm missing." He frowned as he scratched at his head. "Do you remember how we got to the Victoria base?" Or any of the events leading up to it. "I men I can remember the dorms, and then things get kind of hazy, then nothing.

It didn't sound crazy, but Caroline still frowned just slightly as she shook her head, wishing she had an answer. Any answer. Especially when she saw the extent of his injuries. " s**t," she hissed out, exhaling through her teeth as she examined the bites he showed her. "Is all of that healing right? Not going to ask if it hurts, I know it must, but--it's not too bad, is it?" The questions about his well-being had to be gotten out of the way before she could allow herself to answer what he'd asked. She bent to reach into her coat pocket, retrieving a pouch that she'd been wearing on her belt before they arrived. As she stood, she upended it into her hand, letting its contents spill out. "Don't remember a bit of it." She tucked the pouch under one arm and sifted through everything so he could see. "There's some notes that I don't remember ever writing. Some got taken by the rescue team and sent back. Don't remember writing those either. Have a deck of fifty-one nines and one king of hearts. Woke up wearing things I've never seen before. Clothes, goggles, things like you have. And--" She extended her right hand so he could see the ring she was wearing, made of intertwined electrical wires. "Seems like a--well. Like something Peter might've given me. But I can't find him and I can't find anything that says he did. So my point is...I've got plenty of ways to make guesses. No way to find answers, unless that rescue team remembers. And nothing that makes the missing pieces seem to fit. Sorry, Liam."

He gave her a very sheepish smile as he ducked his head. "A bit tender, but it's alright." It had been a bit jarring at first, but he was used to it now. Able to ignore it as he went about his day to day. "I'm okay." Liam fell quiet again as she reached into her pocket and drew out the pouch to upend into her other hand. There were notes and cards, the latter of which all seemed to be 9's, save one. He blinked down at them, and the ring as she flashed it for him, before looking up again. It was both worrisome and a relief that she couldn't remember anything either. A relief because that meant he wasn't crazy, and hadn't sustained a head injury that he wasn't aware of, but it begged the question of just what had happened in that time they couldn't remember. So he nodded, lips twitching to one side before he turned to reach into the bag again, drawing out something blue and black this time. It was clean now, the bloodstains had all been washed away, but the back was still mess of small and large lacerations. He held it out to her. "I was wearing this, even though I wasn't enrolled. I don't know where it came from, but it wasn't from soccer."
