With everything that had been happening lately, between her brother’s boyfriend and all of the…incidents and mishaps that had been going on while patrolling…Carlee had completely forgotten that she had a dancing competition coming up...and of course with forgetting…she had clearly been forgetting to practice as well.
She had practiced some…but it hadn’t been nearly as much as she should have been. It was almost disappointing that she had let her dancing fall by the wayside…she had used to be so invested in it and now it was…almost like an obligation.
Carlee was outside of the Recreation center, her wild curls pulled back away from her face, then secured with a headband.
She was practicing some of her dancing, harms held stiffly at her sides. Sometimes it was almost spooky how easily she fell into the rhythm of her feet hitting against the ground…this was something she was so good at. Something that was unique for her something she had decided to do on her own…
It was hard not to start smiling as she practiced, loving every moment of it.
The speakers she had connected to her iPod were playing her music and she was going with it.
Huh. Maybe she wouldn’t do so badly in the competition after all.

Jarias tried to make time to come to the Rec center, as they had a FREE gym and she could get away with a quick easy workout when she felt she needed too.
Though with her night patrols, and sating a very heavy appetite with Vanessa, Jarias wondered how she had energy left at all for normal things. Normal things like errands. Grocery shopping.
s**t she really needed to do that. As she headed outwards, intent on rushing to her car, the sound of music in the usually quiet hall drew her back in and to the room that a girl was practicing in.
The music was loud enough, and the girl's moves were on point with the rhythm, but they lacked that initial ease. Like she wasn't enjoying it or something.
"Whatever you are thinking about Kid, better let it go." Jarias leaned on the door jamb and waited to be acknowledged. "Your steps are too mechanical. You need to relax."

What? Carlee blinked, and she might have jumped just a little as the voice came from seemingly out of nowhere. The first thing she noticed about the girl was just how pretty her hair was…that was kind of amazing! So colorful and rainbow…y.
“How did you get your hair that pretty?” She was going to say something snarky…but that hair distracted the snark right out of her. She wanted her hair to have some color in it…maybe she could get Arias to let her get something done with it for her birthday next month.
“Also, it’s supposed to be stiff like that. It’s Irish Step dancing and that’s just how it’s done…and I’m not thinking about anything except how I should have practiced more. It’s not that big of a deal…” There it was. Just a little snark from a thirteen year old dancer. There was just no avoiding it.

Jarias blinked and then smiled. "I'm a hairdressed trained. You know like all the ladies at the hair cut places and salons? I mix the colors and do it myself." She cocked her head, "You'd look cute with color in your hair too. I think it'd be pretty."
She waited and then she made an 'o' shape with her mouth. "I see, Irish step huh. Here let me try..." She copied the motions she saw from the girl earlier and but it was a bit awkward because had never actually...Irish stepped before.
"Is it like that?" Jarias tried to slouch a little for the girl, so she wasn't some like MASSIVE amazon woman.
"Why weren't you practicing Kid?"

Carlee seemed thoughtful and reached up, pulling one of her curls out, then letting it spring right back into a coil. “I’ve been thinking about seeing if my brother would take me to get something done with it…my birthday’s coming up soon and I think any fourteen year old should be able to have colorful hair if they want to…”
Maybe some nice purples…or blue…or something. Something that would go good with her eyes…
The teen watched as Jarias tried to mimic her dancing and laughed a little. “That wasn’t bad, but you’re too fluid with it, you have to be nice and…you know…what did you say? Mechanical?”
She shrugged. “I just had things that I was doing…that’s all. iT wasn’t really my fault. And this competition snuck up on me, seriously. I thought I had so much more time than this…but I’m set to perform next weekend so…I have to get my butt in gear!”

"I could give you my number, and you can pass it on to your brother. I'm not about charging or anything since its more of a hobby then a job. If you decide on a color or something." Plus jarias loved hair and Carlee's curls were amazing and she wanted to get in them and color them and relax them and just...Ugh. She would love to play with it. "I agree, Its like a coming of age thing! Colored hair is a expression of self!"
Jarias then laughed as she was being SCHOOLED on how to dance by a kid. Well schooled in the Irish step, which she'd never do in a club so...
"Oh yeah, that's what all the procrastinators say!" She teased, "Hey that's good though. A week is not bad compared to you know...Tomorrow." She turned.
"Okay show me it again, so I can see what its suppose to look like?"

“Well, my brother’s gay so I don’t think he’d be too interested…but you are pretty.” The words had left her mouth before she even had managed to think about them. When her mind caught up to her voicebox, she sighed. “Oh. For the hair thing. Right. My bad.” Her face had grown just slightly pink at the mistake but she really loved the idea of getting her hair done for her birthday.
“It’s the truth though, lots of things have been happening and I’ve just been so distracted and it’s almost felt like I’ve lost my passion for dancing and I hate feeling like this…I just want things to go back to how they were before…but I guess all that is from growing up so…”
Carlee shook her head and flashed a smile. “Yeah, all right!” She walked over to her iPod and flipped through it, picking a new song, letting it run for a few moments before jumping into a dance. Clearly this was one she had practiced well. Again a happy sort of smile formed on her face as she rocked out.
Carlee. Lord of the dance.

She was more shocked that Carlee seemed to think Jarias was interested in a random stranger then that she bluntly said her brother was gay OR that she was pretty.
"That's good to know darling, but I'm not interested in boys." She smiled, "I prefer girls. They are softer." And then she laughed at the pink blush. "yeah, I don't go handing my number out. Plus I have a girl...sorta. I got someone. I'm not interested in anyone else."
She nodded for a moment, "Here, I'll sit over here." And she watched Carlee move, much better now before. Maybe the girl just needed an audience to really shine.
"That's better! You're really good."

She didn’t say anything until the song ended, but when it did Carlee again went to the iPod, pausing it before another song could play. “Yeah, I used to be a lot better though…unitl I got lazy, but what are you going to do, you know?”
The teen took off her headband, re-adjusting it so it once again held back her wild hair. “You dance, don’t you? I kind of figured because you were trying to tell me what to do…and you weren’t bad at doing what I did…If you wanted to show me, I’d like to see!”
Maybe talking to an older dancer would help her find that passion again…it couldn’t hurt, at the very least.

"Get better again, you know!" Jarias laughed and then blinked.
"Yeah! I'm not like a formal dancer or anything." she rubbed her chin. "I prefer like freestyle." She popped her own ipod out and switched hers for Carlee's. An appropriate hip hop sang came on.
"I'm more better at..." she had some real fancy footwork, but like Carlee noticed before, Jarias was relaxed, and loose with her arms.
"It's just for fun though. I'm a club bouncer, so I pick up stuff there."

“Ohhh. That’s pretty awesome!” What neat dancing…that was like…real dancing, like dancing that people did nowadays. Sometimes Carlee was pretty old fashioned but…she always did like it! A club bouncer, hm? That sounded so cool…and fancy and…
The teenager glanced at the watch on her wrist and made a face. “Aw poo. I have to run, I’m sorry! I’m supposed to be at my brother’s place uh…Well I was supposed to be there five minutes ago!” She rushed over, grabbing her iPod from the bench and waved. “Thanks for helping me practice! I’ll see you around okay?”
With that, she ran off, not even realizing that she left her speakers back at the rec center.
Oh well. At least she had Jarias’s number!
