There were a lot of unanswered questions recently that we’re seriously grating on Ubasti’s nerves. She still had no idea who this prince and princess were that were leading the Dark Mirror. That was problem number one. Number two was the fact that Ubasti felt the Dark Mirror were spread out far too thinly for her liking. Grated with no one to lead them it was easy to see why that was. Ubasti wanted a stronger role within her faction, she wanted to prop it up and help it flourish. She just wasn’t sure exactly how to go about it. Well, she had a small idea but didn’t know if it would work.
Ubasti gazed across the city in the darkness, feeling for any who might be nearby. She felt nothing and sighed.
If she wanted to help the Dark Mirror than she needed to bolster their ranks first. That meant getting a small gathering of civilians and walking them into the mirror. Ubasti wasn’t sure if she was only supposed to do it to a select few, or if all would turn into Dark Mirrors, but it was an idea she was contemplating. It also meant she was going to have to take on a much more mentor like role and as a simple senshi that wasn’t going to work very well now was it? She needed to become a super and then get to eternal. Another problem she felt she still hadn’t quite figured out how to beat.
There was also her problem with the Negaverse. She wanted to pummel them after what they’d done to Dennis. She needed numbers for that as well. A little army of her own, maybe even change some senshi over to become dark mirrors. Ubasti smiled. She’d have to start with simple civilians before she got anywhere close to taking any White Moon over. Ubasti closed her eyes, one step at a time... She had to take it slow and steady fi she wanted to win this race.

Olivia sat outside on a park bench, reading a book by a combination of the dying sunlight and the lamplight. It was for school, of course, but reading outside was pleasurable no matter what the topic, and Olivia needed the open air. She’d spent a long time in the school, longer still tutoring lesser students, and longer even still behind a desk, doing other homework. Though she wasn’t walking, she was at least not within four walls, and it was refreshing. And productive. Exactly the way she would want it…
Well, obviously, not exactly. Perfection would be a hike, then a read on a tall rock face, her back against a tree, and a beautiful panorama unfolding just beyond the pages. But sitting on a park bench on a lovely Autumn evening would have to do.
A youma was also about, but it was not after civilian prey. No, it was after a very different kind of interloper… competition. It was a simple beast, but it understood energy. Some produced it, some ate it. Some that ate it were negaverse born, like it, and others… well… they weren’t. And it could sense one in its territory, and it decided, with a many, many, many fanged growl, that that was not right. It was not nega. It didn’t belong here. It could hunt somewhere else.
It approached Ubasti, growling and bristling what appeared to be quills. It hadn’t realized, yet, that it - like a yapping pomeranian going after a tiger - was horribly outmatched…

The dark mirror turned to look at the beast that had appeared a smirk smearing across her face in an instant. This was the kind of fight she’d been looking to avoid but wouldn’t back down from. No, every single youma that she chanced upon during her night patrols would be obliterated by Ubasti. She hated them, hated that they worked for the Negaverse and would do anything to cripple their operation to nothing. If that meant destroying every single youma that she found then so be it. Ten, twenty, one hundred it didn’t matter they would all die.
And she was going to start with this one. Just not atop a roof.
“Come get me.” She spat at it, glaring before turning and heading right for the park. There wouldn’t be anyone there at this time so it didn’t matter if they took up space there. Ubasti landed softly and then jumped forward again to propel herself into the park. The youma followed, jumping down and running after Ubasti. If it thought it was the prey then she was going to have a very nasty surprise for the youma. She wanted to lure it deeper into the park and away from the street so no one could see it.
Problem was as Ubasti ran past a park bench she noticed someone and she stopped a few paces from the bench to stare at the girl.
“Hey you! You need to get out of here!” She yelled, glancing at the advancing youma who wasn’t far behind.

The youma growlfed and, a predictable and simple beast, pursued, it’s rows of fangs dripping as it raced along the ground. It was built for speed and fast attacks, but it was fragile… not that it understood that. It understood hunting. It understood killing. It understood energy. It understood territory. That was all that mattered to it. Olivia looked up from her book, half rising at the urgency in the woman’s voice. They were… oddly dressed to say the least, not something Olivia would expect in this area, in the evening, at this time of year. It’s too early for halloween she thought, unbelieving. “What? Why should...?” The first few thoughts that ran through her head were ‘mentally unstable’ or ‘hard-core partier’... but none of those impressions fit with the appearance of the small, bony, slavering monster that came charging out of the deepening shadows. “What the hell is that?!” she exclaimed, jumping to her feet. Her posh way of speaking clashed with the utter shock in her voice…

No time, there was simply wasn’t any more time for the girl to run. Even now as Ubasti’s mind raced through multiple strategies at high speeds, the probability of the girl making a run for it was neigh impossible. Which meant Ubasti was going to have to intervene and not run. First, she turned back to the girl pointing at her and yelling at the girl.
“Get down under the bench!” Ubasti jumped back as the youma came close and tried to swipe at her. Those claws would leave a nice nasty gash on skin if she wasn’t careful. She couldn’t afford to be stuck in bed.
Ubasti raced forward towards the youma before it had a chance to turn on the woman. She closed her hand into a tight fist and aimed for the youma’s head. It connected, sending the beast down but certainly not out. The dark mirror wasn’t finished though, placing both hands on the youma she called out her attack and watched with satisfaction s it died. Ubasti gave it one last kick in its dying breath before turning towards the girl.
“You don’t run when someone tells you to run?” She’d never come face to face with a civilian and a youma before. Were they supposed to hide their identity? What was she even supposed to tell the girl? Or maybe, maybe she could take her through the mirror. She would be her first ever, but did the girl have what was needed to become a dark mirror? Ubasti barely understood the process herself… Testing couldn’t hurt right?

Yeah… running was pretty pointless at this point. That thing - that horrifying thing whatever it possibly was - was fast. Olivia was atheletic, modestly, but there was no chance in hell she could outrun that thing. She ducked behind the bench, ignoring for the moment how undignified it was, but she couldn’t help peering through the slats at the oddly dressed woman… who punched the monster in the face… repeatedly. Olivia watched as it was utterly destroyed by the fierce woman, blinking her eyes as they suddenly went dry. Finally, the monster vanished into an explosion of dust and shadowy mist. Was this a dream? She rubbed her dry eyes, only to reveal that things were exactly as they were - an oddly dressed woman, Olivia behind a bench… Slowly, Olivia stood. “What… in the…” she said, unbelieving. And then the costumed woman - because it had to be a costume, didn’t it - began to berate her. Olivia set her jaw, stiffening instinctively at the statement. Did the costumed woman imply that she had been foolish? Absolutely not! Olivia reassured herself, standing up straight, the book lying half forgotten in the mud by her feet. “I don’t run” she said, “When there isn’t a point to doing so. Hiding, in this case…” she tried not to grind her teeth, “Was better and more protective.” Droplets of red caught her eye - something that didn’t fit with the costume. Olivia’s eyes widened. “You’re hurt...” she said, managing to keep the shock out of her voice. After the monster had vanished, she had almost thought that maybe, perhaps, it was some sort of performance art act, bizzare and in the park at night for whatever reason. Blood was not an act, and fake monster claws did not cause wounds that bled. Thinking quickly, Olivia took out a portable first aid kid from her purse - small but useful enough, a must-have for any classy, intelligent, young woman on the go. She set her jaw against the trill of wariness and the instinct to stay away from the wierd lady, her sense of personal duty and honor winning out as she approached Ubati. “Here. Let me help you with your wound.”

Both options was dumb, there was no way the girl would have survived. Ubasti glared where the youma had been. The Negaverse seemed to have no qualms injuring innocents before draining them of their energy. Foolish. So goddamn foolish. This was the reason Ubasti needed to see them all destroyed, they were disgusting and didn’t deserve to live on Earth. If only she was more organized, better placed within the Dark Mirror Court she could surely plead with some of the older senshi that the Negaverse was fifth they couldn’t associate with.
“What?” Ubasti turned towards the girl before looking down at the bleeding wound. “It’s nothing really.” Who carried around a medical kit with them? Ubasti watched the girl incredulous to what she was watching before chuckling. “You must have encountered senshi before then if you carry one of those things around.” Senshi or other really. If she knew any had existed before she would be carrying one around too. Ubasti went over to the bench and took a seat, she may as well get medical help now. It would be easier to hide a wound that wasn’t bleeding all over once she powered down.
“I hope you know what you’re doing.”

“Senshi?” Olivia opened the kit and bent over the wound, assessing, before taking out purified water and antiseptic. Senshi… the word was familiar. Occasionally, such a thing was mentioned in the news, but Olivia paid little mind to urban legends. Is that what she had found? An urban legend? “No.” she said, a little curtly, “I am always prepared… And this is not nothing,” she scolded, “You’re not going to bleed to death, but this is a very bad gash.” the costumed senshi was lucky she wouldn’t need stitches! She peeled away the cloth around the wound and revealed it. She rinsed out the wound with water. “This will hurt.” she said, pouring in the antiseptic. She supposed the hospital would have many questions about young ladies in outrageous costumes coming in with deep gashes. Somehow, Olivia didn’t think that this person - were they actually older than her? It was hard to tell - would not want to answer them. She dried off the wound and bandaged it up. Of course, she didn’t even grace the remark (reasonable though it was) with a statement - of course she knew what she was doing. Olivia always - always - knew what she was doing. “There.” she said, finishing the bandage and looking disdainfully at the senshi outfit, stained and ripped, “Now you are less likely to be infected.” She cleaned her hands with water and antiseptic, and gave Ubasti the remainder of the purified water to drink. She put away the remaining components, nice and neatly, and put the medical kit back in her purse, making a mental note to restock it. “Now. Tell me.” She levelled an intense look at Ubasti, “What was that thing?”

“I’ll take that as ano then.” Well, the cat was out of the bag now wasn’t it? Were there rules on telling people his kind of thing? Did she need to threaten the girl into not telling anyone? She would rather not have to kill her. There was also trying to see if she was perhaps a sleeping senshi herself? Ubasti wasn’t a high enough rank to turn the girl into a Dark Mirror senshi yet, but she could always keep her in her back pocket until such a time did happen. That was a thought she would have to consider.
“Nothing hurts as much as OWWW!” Ubasti jerked away from the liquid being poured on the wounds. It had hurt yeah, but that burning sensation would be gone soon enough. It wasn’t like that one time where Dennis, before his youmification, had hit her with his hammer right in the rib cage. she’d been sore for days after that hit and the bruise had lasted even longer. Hopefully this would heal much faster than the last time, thankfully her costume would be back up to par once she powered back into it.
“Thanks,” Ubasti placed a hand on the bandaged wound and winced before leaning back in the chair. “Why don’t you take a seat, the explanation is a bit long.” Surely someone so prepared had to have a senshi within them that Ubasti could turn Dark Mirror. never hurt to try right? Actually she had no idea if it did hurt to try. “That thing was a youma, they’’re created by what we call the Negaverse. The Negaverse is the definition of evil as you can see. Senshi such as myself, for there are two kinds, fight to destroy their pet youmas and the Negaverse.”

Nothing hurt as much as what? What other beasts had hurt her before? It appeared that Olivia was about to find out. She declined to comment that she was already seated, and any slightly wry remarks she might have made faded in the wake of actual explanation. So. The youma were monsters, and they were created by something else... some sort of evil organization... And Senshi fought the youma. Olivia had seen that youma, and unless this had to do with goodness or beauty being deeper than the skin, it made sense that monsters = bad, pretty people fighting them = good. But then... “What does the Negaverse want?” it was a really bad name for anything, really. “And what are these two types of Senshi?” And what had Olivia stumbled on to?

“The Negaverse want to take over this planet and pretty much harvest everyone on it until they die for energy.” Perhaps Ubasti was being a little too... Simple with the concept, but as far as she knew that was what their goal was. “But you know I could be wrong, I’m hunting them down. They hurt my friend and they are good for nothing criminals that should all be locked up!” Ubasti made a fist with her hand and glared at the snow. Then she relaxed, took a deep breath and turned back to Olivia. “So now you see why I want to hunt down every single one of them. They’re no good.”
Plus, if Ubasti put down good groundwork for new Dark Mirrors hating the Negaverse, they would get somewhere.
“Well, there is the White Moon Court. Bunch of prissy little girls who use children in this war, they’ve got a bunch of senshi with them but everyone is like super disorganized as far as I can tell. They wake you up as your new self and just leave you to fend for yourself.” Ubasti rolled her eyes. “Then there are those like me,” She grinned. “The Dark Mirror Court. We’re the ones who actually plan on doing something about the Negaverse scum and we’re kind of like a family. It’s nice.” Ubasti paused to see Olivia’s reaction to all of this.
“So what do you think?

"That sounds very..." extreme. a** backwards. Terrifying. "Villainous, yes." Olivia supposed it was good that someone was fighting the... Negaverse. Seriously, it was a ridiculous name. Not nearly as ridiculous as White Moon Court or Dark Mirror Court. Or perhaps equally so. Olivia decided to err on the side of suspending her disbelief. The Monster - Youma - had not been fake, and thus these other things must be extant, but a few of the things that the woman - the Dark Mirror Senshi? - said raised other questions in their place. What did she mean by 'wake up'? Did that mean that people were ordinary one day and suddenly became these senshi? What did she mean by children? Was the friend she mentioned also a Senshi, a fighter? And, most importantly... "I think this is a lot to take in." she said, a little snidely as she put away the first aid equipment. It also sounded like something right out of a children's cartoon - good and evil and monsters being vanquished and costumes. Olivia had never watched much of that sort of thing when she was younger, but now she wished she had. Things might have made a little more sense... or perhaps not. If this was real, then it was likely far more dire than any children's show. "How" she said, with complete sincerity, "May I assist?" Well, she couldn't just walk away, could she?
