Maria laid on her bed, watching the ceiling with a tiny frown. The glowing stars delicately placed on top her ceiling illuminated in the dark room, almost mimicking space. Her head drew backwards, eyes closing as she released a long sigh. Yesterday, her teacher had asked her to write down what she wanted to be as an adult, and Maria hadn't been able to answer the question. She had been, like most kids, asked this question despite the fact her answers were frequently not the same. One day she wanted to be a ballerina, the next she wished to raise familiars. It wasn't as simple as the adults seemed to make it out to be. She just didn't have an answer. How could you state the road your life would travel on? How did anyone do that?
Her eyes flicked open to examine her ceiling once more. Andy came to mind as she remembered the night she spent talking about the stars with him. He had been so excited, and briefly she wondered how happy he would have been if she could accurately read his future. So many people lived in a world where they were afraid. Where answers were not given and people were left hoping and praying for answers.
What if she could find those answers?
She leapt off her bed, immediately crawling towards her bookshelf and yanking out a book. Ah! There it was! Horoscopes! She dragged herself back into bed, opening the book and turning on the lamp beside her bed before leafing through. This. This was what excited her the most! Being able to read the stars. Being the one with the answers. Comforting those lost and confused. Why didn't anyone else enjoy these things? Was she alone? Didn't everyone else want to provide reassurance for those around them?
What if she could become this? Someone who revealed the future for the lost lambs? Was it possible? It had to be if there was a book on it! That's it! That was her future!
She was going to read the stars!
