Korvau was bored. Very bored. He'd been told he had to stay inside for the rest of the night, which was Not Fun. Willow was busy, so he couldn't really bother him... And the others were probably busy too... AHHHHHH HE NEEDED SOMETHING TO DOOOOO!!
Suddenly frustrated he decided to run it out a little, that was the best choice, right? He took off running down one of the long halls, much to the dismay of the caretaker that was supposed to be watching him. Within a few minutes he was long gone. Unfortunately that also meant he wasn't really looking where he was going, since Korv tended to run best when he just went with the flow of things.
Sooner or later he'd learn not to do that.
Probably after crashing right into some poor kid in the hallway. Korv stumbled back with a small cry of alarm, nearly tripping over his tail. "Ah--!! I'M SORRY!!" Rubbing his head, he looked to see who it was he'd nearly run over...

 Nex wasn't one to leave his dorm much, but sometimes he'd make a brave encounter with the outside world. It really depended on how desperate he was for company. He was used to being avoided, and Nex never really complained about the fate the world had given him. He was creepy. He knew this. His eyes were rimmed with a black that often caused them to stick out. He had a tendency to stare, and he knew it. He tried to censor it, or at least stare less, but it never worked. Other people interested him. They were different than him, and that meant he had to stare.
Today, he desired attention. He was alone, and Nex sometimes hated being alone. Usually, he could manage, but not today. Today, he was lonely, and Nex had a desire to remedy it. He wandered the halls, glancing about and fretting with his hands as he considered what to do. Suddenly, a collision occurred, and Nex was sent flying to the ground. His eyes widened, body hitting the ground without a peep from him. He flicked his gaze up, about to ask if the other was okay when, suddenly, it hit him.
The boy before him was stunning.
He didn't have a way to describe it, but for a second the world looked as if it was created simply to emphasize the boy before him. And then, it returned to normal, the colors dimming back into their usual hues. He blinked, unsure if it was a trick on the eyes or.... something else. Shrugging it aside, the boy shook his head, looking at his hands as he remained on the ground.
"It was my fault." The monotone voice rang, almost surprisingly deep for a child of his age.

Oh, oh boy... He actually knocked the other kid over! And he was so big! Korvau had never actually knocked anyone over before. Suddenly he realized what that meant. Oh noooo. OOOOH NOOO. He shuffled closer, shifting his weight from foot to foot as his worry skyrocketed. He'd probably hurt him! Really bad!! "Are you okay?? Did you get hurt?? I've never knocked anyone over before, I'm really sorry!" He finally settled on kneeling next to him.
And, in classic Korvau fashion, reached out to start patting at him to check for any damage. Oh no. He papped around his shoulders, then over his back... and then the back of his head. Yes, that could be hurt! What if he'd hit it? Oh...
Oh.
His eyes finally locked on Nex's, and instantly he stopped fidgeting. What was that? They were just... so... -- for once in his life he felt so powerfully drawn into something that he actually stopped moving, and just blinked. What color were they? They looked like... honey. Honey eyes so deep he couldn't break his own away from them, and the black just made them stand out even more. He sat still, just staring, completely entranced...
For all of three seconds, anyway.
"You have freckles too!"
Yes Korvau. So observant, Korvau.

 Nex watched the other shuffle closer, head shaking as he held a hand up to indicate he was fine. It'd take a lot more than that to hurt him. He blinked back at the strange boy as he began to pat him, blankly rolling his gaze from the hand and back to the strangers eyes. W-what? Was that some magic to stop the pain? Awkwardly, he leaned a little forward as his head was patted. Was this good? Did he need something? Could he access his head now?
Then their eyes locked. His tendrils flicked as they seemed stuck in their staring, mouth parting as he tried to comprehend what exactly was pulling at him. And then, suddenly, the spell was broken, eyes widening as the other suddenly proclaimed that he too had freckles. He blinked away the haze, hands absently reaching up to touch his own face. Oh. Yeah. Okay. Freckles. They were talking about freckles now.
"Yeah." Wow. He was so good at talking, wasn't he?

He still seemed really stunned... maybe he should take him to see Miss Yuki! He'd been to see her a lot, every time he got a boo-boo while running or sometimes when he fell out of bed (oh how embarrassing) but he wasn't sure what to do about this... "Ummmm...." He shifted his weight from foot to foot, tail wagging anxiously as he looked around the hall.
"I think maybe we should go see Miss Yuki!" He proclaimed as he stuck out his hands for the other boy to take. "You seem kinda um... ummmm... UMMMM...!!!" What was the word?? He wasn't sure if he knew... so, "slow!" There. That was it, clearly. Without really waiting for Nex to respond, he began pulling him down the hallway towards the nurse's office, as soon as he hand a grasp on at least one of his hands, anyway.
"OH! I'm Korvau!! What's your name?" He looked back over his shoulder at the taller boy - goodness he was tall - and smiled, ears perking up as he spoke.

Slow. He seemed slow. Nex blinked back at him, debating if he should admit he naturally was this way or to go along with the game. He didn't really get a chance to choose either as the boy grabbed his hand and began to tug, stumbling after him despite his larger size. He was about to tug his hand away when, instead, the smaller boy turned his head to view him, his breath catching in his throat. What was this feeling? Why was he lost when the other glanced back at him? Was this normal? Was he sick? Would this last forever? Should he avoid the other boy? Was Nex contagious? Finally, the question seemed to surface in his head, brain catching the name.
Korvau. What a pleasant name... Aaah. This needed to stop. This was beyond frustrating! He couldn't put his finger on what was wrong with him, but it was something. Maybe the fall had injured his head.
"Nex." He finally replied, eyes flicking up. They were near the nurses office. Oh no. He suddenly stopped moving, giving the boy, Korvau, no option but to stop. Moving the taller boy just didn't seem an option.
"Wait." He didn't want to waste Korvau's time. That, and Yuki had more important people to tend to. "I'm naturally like this." He paused, fighting to find the word Korvau used for him. Ah. That's right. "Slow. I'm naturally slow."Awkwaaaard.

Everything was going just fine, according to plan, really, until Nex stopped. Korvau jerked a little as he suddenly found himself unable to move forward at all. He blinked, then looked back to Nex again before realizing the taller boy had stopped moving. Boy, he sure was heavy! He was about to start tugging him again when he spoke up about being slow normally. Huh. "Ohhhhh...." He nodded, mouth forming the perfect "o" as he spoke. "Okay then." Another, shorter nod of confirmation followed up the long one....
So Nex was his name and he was naturally slow. Huh. What to do about that...? "WELLLLLLLL, if you're suuuuure you're okay then I guess we don't gotta see Miss Yuki!" He beamed, tail starting to wag again as his ears perked up. And, well.. while they were here he might as well ask... "DO YOU WANNA PLAY A GAME?!"
Not so loud, Korvau... Not so loud...

Ah, good, he got it. The hybrid didn't show the relief on his face, but it rushed through him like a wave. Good. Now they didn't need to waste both Korvau's and Yuki's ti–
Wait, wait, a game? Didn't he just hear that Nex was.... well, basically boring? Most kids were either afraid of him, or annoyed. Yet, here was this energetic fluff ball who essentially was the complete and utter opposite of him, eagerly looking up at him (and screaming) as if he was fascinating by merely existing.
Huh, it felt nice.
"Okay." A game, huh? Would he regret this? The last game he played was dodgeball, and they had knocked him out in seconds. Well.... it didn't help he stood there, holding a ball firmly as he refused to throw it, afraid he'd hurt someone. Yeah, he wasn't good at those games...

Oh boy, he agreed! Korvau hopped in place a little, mind running over the various games they could play. Nothing fast, Nex probably wouldn't like that! Oh, OOHHHH -- "We could play hide-and-seek!! I bet you're reaaaallly good at that one huh!?" He beamed, body wiggling with excitement - which of course included the hand he was still holding Nex's with.
"We could play in the courtyard!! So we don't gotta look AALLLLLLLL over!" He nodded, raising his free hand to make a sort of arch in the air as if he were gesturing to the entire campus. That would be terrible. Even if he was bad at hide-and-seek.

Hide-and-seek? That seemed.... relatively easy. He could manage that. That, and Nex probably would have done anything Korvau asked, honestly. He could have said skydiving and Nex would be right on board. Okay, this wasn't normal. Maybe he did need to see Yuki....
After he played a game, of course.
"Okay." He repeated, internally flinching. Was he really so boring that all he could manage was one word, repeated on a loop? Yet, Korvau didn't seem to mind. Or, Nex couldn't tell if he did... which was a good thing.
They were still holding hands, actually.. So Nex immediately turned around and began leading them to the courtyard. If Korvau wanted to play hide-and-seke, well, hide-and-seek was wha the was going to get.

Nex sure seemed like one-word answers... But Korvau wasn't going to complain. As long as Nex wasn't upset, Korv was fine! He followed along, skipping slightly with each step on the way to the courtyard. Something about this felt... nicer than when he did it with Willow, or his other friends. This felt more.. right. But Korvau was not a particularly introspective person - so these feelings were largely unnoticed...
"Do you wanna hide or be "it" first???" He finally asked once they neared the courtyard. "OR WE COULD PLAY ROCK-PAPER-SCISSORS TO DECIDE!!!" And there it was... The screeching was not over, it seemed.

The screeching didn't seem to matter for Nex. He wasn't too upset, nor did he even flinch. It wasn't like he minded. Korvau could scream all he wanted, he was used to the loud sounds of children in the academy. Sure, he himself would never make such a sound, but hey, to each their own. That, and seeing Korvau so excited just to play a simple game with him left him.... well, happy. He was exciting to someone. Fun. He wasn't just Nex, the boring. Or Nex the Boulder (as some of the kids liked to call him). He was something more, now.
"Okay." There he went, again. "On three? One.... two...." His hand raised as he spoke, giving Korvau time to follow suit before counting further.
"..... Three." He flattened his hand in the standard 'paper' sign, looking up to see Korvau had chosen.... nepsah 1 - Rock 2 - Paper 3 - Scissors
