Life Hunter BATTLE ARENA General Information The portal opens up into an observation room, and down the stairs, an odd chamber for something like hunter training. At the center of a piranha-filled pool stands a solid stone table and several chairs. The Life Arena was built underneath the demolitions and ballistics testing areas, and the chamber rumbles with the occasional explosions above. Pinpoint red lasers sweep across the room regularly, as if hidden snipers are searching for a nice target. In the center of the table sits a wooden tower, made up of smaller wooden blocks. Yes. That's right. The Life Hunters prefer to train via Jenga.
Note: Distraction techniques and Yo Momma jokes are considered viable weapons when playing competitively.
If you fail: you have knocked down the tower! A small dart hits the back of your neck. You come to several hours later, and hope Dr. H didn't do anything to your body while you were unconscious. When you look into the mirror...
If you win: you have reached 50 points! You get a sharpie marker to do with as you please. peen points go to those with the highest scores.
Group Play Playing in a group on any course means certain things can be shifted to make it a better experience for multiple people without holding anyone back. An approved group play alteration for the life arena goes as follows: When someone knocks the tower down, they are shot with a weaker dart. They will wake up 5 minutes later, the game can be reset back to the point before it fell by placing their hands on the table and saying the word, constructum. This allows them to start again where they left off instead of the beginning. They can take up to three of these darts before passing out for an hour, the game will not reset for them and they will need to try again from the beginning.
Mechanics - by carefully removing pieces of the tower, you earn points and advance to the next round. As the rounds continue, the odds grow steadily against you. Rolling a 1 at any point means you have knocked down the tower. Please do enjoy your mystery dart. Anything after reaching 50 points is purely for peen.
- you may roll pieces individually (suggested for group play) or in batches of 5 (basically, a full round.)
Round 1
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 1 Trainee Roll: 1d10 Life Trainee Roll: 1d12 Hunter Roll: 1d12 Life Hunter Roll: 1d20
Round 2
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 3 Trainee Roll: 1d8 Life Trainee Roll: 1d10 Hunter Roll: 1d10 Life Hunter Roll: 1d12
Round 3
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 4 Trainee Roll: 1d6 Life Trainee Roll: 1d8 Hunter Roll: 1d8 Life Hunter Roll: 1d10
Round 4
Pieces: 5 Points per piece: 10 Trainee Roll: 1d4 Life Trainee Roll: 1d6 Hunter Roll: 1d6 Life Hunter Roll: 1d8
Bonus Mechanics Life Hunters train for precise hand eye coordination and exceptional judgement, thus they have a slightly lower chance of knocking down the tower.

Matt waited outside of the training course, he was not going until he was reassured his partner was going to be there on time and not late. Not that he was sure that Ever was that sort of person, they had only met occasionally but his faith in people was not what it used to be. Being there was slowly wearing him down, but Matt assumed that was the same for everyone. He wore normal pair of gym clothes, pants and a shirt, his jacket was to the side he still wasn’t use to wearing the new one for his promotion. It felt weird and strange, like it was meant for someone else and not him. Pulling out his phone he sent a text message, hoping the number he had was right. and be blue TXT to Ever At the training tower, battle arena floor.

He wasn't exactly late, but he wasn't exactly early, either: approaching the tower with his head down and his brow furrowed as he struggled to hammer out a reply to Matt on his phone's keyboard. Ever looked taller, somehow -- probably because he was thinner, paler, expression somewhat distracted. His hair had grown out enough to float around his face, even with most of it pulled into a rough tail at the back of his head. He looked...overgrown, like a plant that needed to be cut back, just a little. And maybe that was about accurate. He also looked faintly confused, giving up on the text as he looked up and saw the other man standing in front of the building. He huffed out a sigh through his nose and dropped the phone into his pocket. "...have you done this before?"

“No I haven’t, have you?” Matt turned looking at the Ever as he approached, pretty much on time. He gave the usual smile, one that lacked any sort of happiness but done out of necessity in greeting someone. The man was looking almost as thin and pale as he had last time, Matt noted it for whenever he saw him stuck in the infirmary, but didn’t bother to say anything to him. He could fuss over Ever but he doubted it would do any good, at least not now. “Guess we should start.” He headed in not entirely sure what to expect to the training grounds, Matt had passed by enough but hadn’t participated in many. Looking over the tower he walked over pushing one of the blocks unaware of the whole point of not taking the entire tower down at the start. It was too late as the sensation of something stinging him on the back of neck, a minute later he was crumpled up on the floor out cold. Poor Matt; it was like an precursor to exactly what Ever was going to warn him about. He watched the man crumple, head cocked to the side, just faintly amused. Instead of carrying on as he could, he decided to strip down the whole thing and set it up again, carefully. They could start over, instead, from the beginning, give Matt a fresh chance. No need to go into this with one chance down. Still. Once it was set up he'd pause, uncapping the sharpie, to draw one small hashmark on Matt's cheek. Something with which to remember his failure. Then, carefully, he nudged out once piece himself, gently as he could manage. One wobble, and then the tower settled. Ever sat with the piece in front of him and waited for Matt to wake up. ROUND 1: 1/5 pieces down! hanging gallow |: you failed on your first turn, just start over, okay? XD

His body felt heavy as he woke up from lying in an odd position on the floor, sitting up he rubbed his face in his hands remembering the last thing he had done. The tower was back up; as Matt glanced over to Ever giving a sheepish look not realizing anything was doodled on his face. “Sorry about that.” Obviously doing what he had done was not the correct way of handling the training course, even more he felt like a moron. This was not a surprise, considering his s**t luck but it was still embarrassing that he had managed to fail it before starting. Getting to his feet he headed to the tower and with more grace than before removed a brick from the tower. Maybe, just maybe, as Matt took up his place to start up the effort again...there was a slight quirk across Ever's mouth, comfortably teasing, watching him in a self-satisfied way. He'd passed out as well, his first time [and his second, for that matter] but no one had drawn on his face. Maybe that wasn't exactly something to be proud of. maybe it just meant they were better people than him. "I should have warned you about what happens when you fail, here." He knocked a piece free, easily. ROUND 1: 2/5 pieces down 3/3 recoveries left

Matt watched as Ever, ignoring his slight quirk on his lips, as he easily took out another brick, it hadn’t dawned on him till now that it was sort of like Jenga. “It’s ok, I probably shouldn’t have rushed in here just touching things without waiting for instructions.” Should have known better, probably should have realized what game it was sooner he just hadn’t assumed it would be so simple. Well almost simple as Matt pushed another brick out, there was the mysteries dart to knock them out threat. What real reason that was for he wasn’t sure. "It's worse when you're alone," Ever offered, matter-of-fact, as he pulled another piece free. Easy enough, really. This was certainly the best that he'd done, anyway. By now, every other time, he was fairly sure that he'd knocked the tower over. He tapped the piece against his cheek and grinned at Matt. "You wake up with no idea how long it's been, and personally, I'm not sure I trust my body alone with the Life techs for unaccounted hours." He paused, brightly. "I mean, I know those guys." “So then the darts still come even when you are alone.” Matt’s eyes darted around the room; the promising idea of being knocked out when he failed wasn’t promising. He pulled another piece; the tower remained, at least for now on his turn. “Yea…” Matt paused; there was a momentary thought of concern of how long he had been out himself. It was obviously long enough for Ever to restack the entire tower again and do whatever else. The “whatever” else was questionable, but he didn’t feel strange, or missing a limb, and that was assuming the worse. There was an uneasy looking smile on his face as Matt looked back at the man’s grin. “I’ve met a few working in the infirmary. Some aren’t terrible, sometimes.” Present company included. “Did something happen while I was out?” Status Round: 1 3/5 pieces taken Pieces Taken: 3 Total Points: 3 3/3 Recoveries

"I was here, when you passed out." Ever said it like that was reassuring, idly pulling another piece free -- but maybe the grin still spread across his face made it less than reassuring. Of course, he could also just have been teasing. Mostly, he was. Mostly. He tapped the piece against his chin before setting it aside. "I made sure no one came in and threw you to the piranhas or something." ROUND 1: 4/5 pieces down 3/3 recoveries left

Matt's eyes narrowed as he still watched Ever, he didn't give the most confidence that something had happened. He ran his hand across him stomach, nothing, and then to the back of his neck as he gave some sort of nervous chuckle as if to shrug off his paranoia. "Thank you... I think." He was't sure how to say that the man always seemed to put him on edge at times, even the last time he had met him. It was like being toyed with almost, but Matt was fine then it couldn't be entirely bad. Maybe. He pulled another piece, the tower wobbled slightly but remained. "Successfully, you mean?" He asked it like it was a genuine question, reaching out to gently nudge another piece free and tossing it onto their tidy little pile. All things considered, the pair of them weren't doing badly at all. It made him smile again, watching Matt with his head on his hand. "...well. Never, actually." It turned just a touch impish. Ever’s question did not instill any confidence in Matt successfully completing the training, even though they were doing fairly well so far he was wasn’t sure if it would get any better with the less pieces holding it up. That was how Jenga went, it started out easy but after a few shifted pieces it would all go to hell. “So how many times have you done this and failed?” It may have been a bit of jackass question to ask but Matt did so and picked another piece off the tower adding it to the pile. The mention of d**k drawings caused a brow to rise as he looked at the almost impish grin, this man was going to drive him crazy. Still, a faint smile edged its way on Matt's face. “I must have been a day he didn’t have a shift in the infirmary otherwise I would have remembered. Don’t tell me I have one on my face as well?” He tried to rub the back of his hand on his cheek but he doubted it did any good. "I would never," Ever offered, with mock affront -- but the grin still plastered on his face made it less than convincing. Their tower was looking a little wobbly now, so he moved more carefully: tugging free a piece nearish the top, and adding it to the pile. "...I've failed it a few times. I don't know how many. we're doing pretty well though, despite your early disaster..." ROUND 1: 5/5 pieces down // 5 points! ROUND 2: 1/5 pieces 3/3 recoveries left
