Another long day of classes. Another evening where all she wanted was to escape math class to return to reading her book about the stars. That, or perhaps sew the dress she tore earlier. Sadly, freshlings weren't allowed far from the caretakers, and her caretaker was much more interested in getting Maria her daily "play time". Which meant Maria was herded into the common room and prompted to spend the next 30 minutes socializing.
Instead of waddling up to others, like most of the kids were, she had taken interest in wiggling into the nearest chair and grabbing one of the children's books to flip through. Within seconds her mouth tightened into a frown. Booooring!. Setting it aside, Maria squirmed her way to the bookshelf and began emptying its contents, not finding a single book she wanted but instead creating piles of abandoned books. The caretakers clearly looked exasperated as they watched the mess they'd have to clean soon as the young child made it her mission to toss the books around haphazardly. Why were there no good books? Who cared if Spot jumped over the fence? Or that the Friendly Monster could count to ten? She didn't!

This was Korv's second favorite part of the day, even above breakfast, which was saying something. His MOST favorite part was when he got to go swimming, but socializing was a good second if he wasn't allowed outside that day. Oh well. The common room was as noisy and busy as ever, but he just wasn't having any luck striking up conversations today. How upsetting.
He was walking back towards the end of the hall when a book hit him square in the back of the head. With a yelp he turned to see what was going on, had he made anyone mad?? Not that he could remember? Oh...
He blinked, then grinned and carefully moved closer to the hybrid tossing the books.
"What'cha doooooin'?"

Maria was startled out of her frantic need to toss books, head snapping up to view the other hybrid, one book in hand. What.... what was she doing, anyway? Setting the book down, she wiggled to press her wings against her back and fold her legs, looking up at the other with a thoughtful frown.
"Looking for a good book." She murmured back, looking down at the book she held before gently tossing it to the side. "My search bears no fruit...." She wistfully sighed, looking up at the boy with a tiny smile.
"Oh! Are you looking for a book, too?"

He blinked... No fruit? He furrowed his brows in confusion, tail swishing... "But... bookshelves don't make fruit?" He was just... so confused. Maybe he'd ask Willow about it later...
"Oh! Nah, I just wanted to know what you were doin'! 'Cause a book hit me in the head 'n stuff...." He nodded and papped his head gently. "What kinna book are you lookin' for?"

She frowned back at him, mostly because he was right. Where had she heard that saying, anyway? A caretaker? A teacher? Wasn't it that scary blue teacher....? Shaking aside the thought, the little hybrid looked back at the boy, wings fluttering.
A book hit him?
Oh no! She rushed over to him, examining his head (whether or not he was fond of it!), frantically flapping her hands. "It did?! Are you okay? How are you? Do you need help? Oh, oh forget the book for a second. I'm so sorry!"

He blinked, surprised by her sudden movement to come look at his head. He giggled a bit, it hadn't really hurt that much, it had been more surprising than anything else! "Yes I'm okay! I have a really thick head! That's what my friend Willow says." He nodded, completely unaware that Willow had probably meant that as an insult, not a compliment.... Oh well!
Her flapping caught his attention, though. Being the tactless child that he was, he gasped and pointed, "WOAH!! You have both of the wing-things?? That's so cool!!!" Yes Korv, shout for all the common room to hear.

His friend Willow....? Now that wasn't nice! She examined him ooooooone more time before nodding and flopping back on the floor. She had been about to start offering books for him to take a peek at when, suddenly, he screeched. Her wings folded into her back as much as possible, to the point it was almost painful. Little blue cheeks turned a brighter shade as she pressed into the corner in an attempt to hide her wings.
"W-well yeah, I.... um..." The little freshling wrung her hands together, looking around the room. Oh boy, they HAD heard him! While it was a compliment she just.... really wished he hadn't. Now people were staring at her! Oh gosh, she was allowed to leave now, right?!

Oh, oh no, she didn't look happy. He messed up? Oh noooo he messed up! This was TERRIBLE! "A-AH! I'M SORRY!! He frantically waved his hands, hopping from foot to foot as a nervous spike of anxiety went through him. What if she got mad?
"I just think it's really cool!! I'm a hybrid too! See!!?" He grabbed his tail, the most obvious part of him, then showed it to her as if that would provide some kind of comfort. No Korv... No.....

No no! It wasn't cool! It was awful! She couldn't fly! She wasn't one thing or the other! Her wings were gross! That's what some of the other Fallen had said! Tears welling up in her eyes, she began to rub at them in hopes to make the tears stop. It failed as she caught sight of the edge of her wing, a low whimper escaping her.
"I-it isn't the same!" She cried out, tears falling rapidly as she pushed herself up and shoved past the boy, running straight for the door and past the caretaker, heading for her dorm. So many people had looked at her, and it was his fault! She couldn't show her face for the next few days!
She was a freak!

OH NO!!! SHE WAS CRYING!! THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORST! OHHHH NOOOOOOOO. NO NO NOOOOOOO. WHAT SHOULD HE DO?? HE HAD NO IDEA!! HE'D NEVER MADE SOMEONE CRY BEFORE. OH GODS. OH NOOO. OHHHH NOOOOO.
He stood there, dumbfounded while she yelled, and then ran off back to her dorm. He blinked, then.... of course, began crying himself, huge tears that blurred his vision so much he couldn't see very well.... In the end a caretaker had to come get him....
