Name origin: It was a small battle, to say the least. Small, but in the young buck's eyes, it was the most important battle of his life. Granted, it was also the first. He held his ground as the much larger group of enemies charged forward, hooves thundering on the ground. His young group decided it wasn't worth the trouble and turn to flee, but not him. He stayed till the end, even though he ended up rather battered and bruised for his efforts.

Name origin: The storm raged on as the young buck climbed the steep mountain, determined to get to the top. This was his challenge, his battle, the thing all young Totomo sought out to claim their name. He wasn't alone, though. There were a few other Totomo climbing behind him. They were all far more natural in color and while he couldn't see them through the rain, he knew they could see him. His speckled pelt provided stars that guided the others, leading them on and up to their goal.

A gloomy and intense totoma, she alone knew where the bodies of the drowned could be recovered, gathered in the river's swirls and eddies. Sometimes she had vivid dreams of being in the cold and dark. Without air, without fear.
Those who walked the bank could sometimes hear her eerie voice drifting over the water, giving a concert to the damned. If they listened closely enough, she would even sing promises to the living, that should they fall, she would be there to catch them...as she caught all who were floating downward. This is probably her way of being friendly.

Rarely did the totoma settle their differences in a whimsical manner. But in the swamp, wars were fought in different ways. Territory could be won by contests. Battles could take place over such frivolous pursuits as recipes and flower finding.
They had been losing, badly. It was the achas. They were always so...dancy. And prancy. He had not intended to contribute. But he could not see another tract of land lost over something like...like this. A singing contest.
Plus they had the Diva on their side. He wasn't sure why they'd agreed on singing in the first place. With her thrilling voice and soft, curled mane, a 10 foot tall totoma warrior would be less intimidating.
When he set his shoulders took a deep breath, and bleated out his truly righteous song, nobody could deny that everyone's minds had been totally blown. They gained the land, and he gained both renown and a Name.

On one such day she found that in order to keep her promise it meant she had to walk nearly from one end of the swamp to the other.. but she kept her word. Upon seeing her sisters face when she presented her with the fruit she'd promised to bring on her birthday the younger female gasped and looked up at her sister wonderingly. "This fruit must have been a million Miles Away from here.. you went all the way just to keep your promise?" She smiled warmly and nodded. You had to keep your promises. No matter what.

After a particularly rough battle she trotted out, her fur bloodied, her eyes blackened, and the biggest grin on her face one could possibly have. A male gave her a look and she felt her blood boil, yet as she rounded to charge her sister stepped in and with a look that clearly stated how unbelievable she found her she simply said "It really is Never Enough for you, is it?" She chuckled and shrugged. Perhaps it wasn't.
