It was another year, another Halloween costume to worry about. Feliks sighed as he sat there looking at Zoya while she was watching My Little Pony. Kata was out with her friends, so he had to just deal with the littlest today. The twins were off having fun elsewhere, probably picking out costumes that were fairly skimpy, that's what they did right? At least without him he couldn't nix the costumes and make disapproving noises when they showed far too much skin. He was off in his own world as his eyes were on the TV but he was thinking about what to do for their new Halloween costumes, not sure if Zoya would want a new pony outfit or if she wanted to do something different, maybe he could offer some different suggestions? He already had Pony at the top of the list because it was silly to assume anything else. Though he also listed Strawberry Shortcake, Inside out, Big Hiro Six, and a few other more popular animated movies and shows. He was secretly hoping something not Pony but he'd live with whatever was picked, after all he really did enjoy pony as much as Zoya did.
The cutie mark crusaders caught his attention and he sighed, at the commercial he was tapping his pencil. "Zoya, are you gunna want to dress up as a pony again?" He asked crimson eyes looking at her as he sat watching her for a bit.
"YES! That's a silly question Feliks!" She said turning around on the couch to look at him sitting at the table, her arms were folded, "Why wouldn't I ever want to be a pony!?"
There was a small smile on his face, "Who's it going to be this year?" He asked as he sat there, "Also do you want the Equestria girls style or are we going to do another straight pony? The EQ maybe a little easier to accomplish since we can adapt their outfits to stuff that we can buy pretty easy without having to make all kinds of new things."
Zoya seemed to think as she glanced back at the TV watching the commercials as she thought, "The Equestira girls would be fine, I was sorta wanting to do Apple Bloom this year. The Cutie Mark Crusaders are kinda cool."
Feliks nodded as he listened and jotted down notes. Trying to remember what he'd seen Apple Bloom wearing in EQ girls, the show had come back on and sighed, doodling though it wasn't the cutest he'd managed a few sketches. He got out of his seat as he went to fetch the papers with the costumes in it. He knew for a fact she'd need the big satin bow, which wasn't that big of an issue. The problem would be figuring out the rest of it including the boots and if he had to alter them if she choose the causal Apple Bloom, he'd doodled one of the EQ dresses he remembered, alongside of a casual and dress he came up with just sitting there.
His eyes were on the tv for a bit as the crusaders were singing another song. His brow lofted at Diamond Tiara and shrugged softly when another commercial came on he turned the sketches towards his sister, "Zoya what you like better?" He asked as he sat there debating on the costumes personally he preferred the dress or overhaul's he'd designed but it was up to her. As she turned again to look at him and the paper he was holding up she held out a hand, so Feliks got up and walked over to her offering her the piece.
"Well, brother. . . " There was a pause as she thought looking over the sketches, "You're no artist that's for sure." She teased him as she paused, "I think the yellow dress you made would be pretty cute, I like the bows, Though I don't like the shoes, can we figure out something else?" She wasn't a fan of the Mary Jane style shoe, it'd been nice to have a boot or something. "Maybe we can find some nice boots or something that work with it? And knee socks?"
Feliks nodded as he noted the adjustments, "Sure, that sounds like it'd be fine." He looked towards the TV, "You're show's about to come back on. We can finish this afterwards." He smiled and headed back to the table as she turned around, Zoya really did enjoy the ponies and he hoped that the outfit would be much easier this year, he'd just have to really make a few adjustments and add simple things if this worked out. That was better than dealing with issues that arose last year.
He hummed pausing as he looked up in time for the ending of the show, with a sigh he silently cursed himself. Things had just got difficult. He set to altering the dress and hoped he could find fabric scraps to make the adjustments needed Zoya on the other hand was in tears as she watched and hummed along to the unfamiliar music. This was probably going to be one of those shows that Zoya re-watched many times Feliks thought as he finally got everything down, mocked up and all that. "Should we see if we can find a dress similar to this at the local Goodwill?" He asked her when she'd finally come over to him wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.
Zoya nodded and sniffled, "Yeah! Let's go look at the Goodwill!" She bounced back to her excited self as he stood up, "I'll grab my bag and jacket!"
He watched Zoya zoom off to gather her things as he went to grab his wallet, shoes and skateboard. "Hey pip-squeak bring you're skates, we'll get there faster." He called as he headed out to wait for her on the porch.
Zoya scrambled outside with skates in her hands and socks finding their way on the cool cement, "You can really tell it's fall Feliks!" She said seemingly excited as she shoved each foot into its respective skate. While the twins didn't care for this sorta thing Kata and Zoya both enjoyed being able to get around on wheels. "Alright! READY!" She said as she stood up and circled around on the front walk.
"Good, shoes in your backpack?" He asked as he let his skateboard clatter to the ground and hopped on it. Watching as she gave a nod, "Helmet snug but not too tight?" There was another nod, same with knee and elbow pads. "Cool, lets head out. After the Goodwill we'll see what else we have time for. Maybe snack some hot chocolate or ice cream. I hear they've got their caramel apple milkshakes again for this time of year, or apparently pumpkin spice is in."
Zoya made a face at pumpkin spice, "I'd rather Caramel Apple milkshakes. Or hot chocolate with marshmallows!" She skated after Feliks staying close but letting him lead.
"Hah that sounds good to me, maybe we can sneak a cinnamon roll and share it too?" He hummed as the pair of them zipped down the sidewalk towards the city, "I guess it depends on what we're in the mood for when we get out and what the temperature is. I know if it's still cool like this, a nice warm drink wouldn't be a horrible idea."
The pair managed to make their way to the thrift store and headed inside after Zoya's shoes were properly on he took her backpack and she ran towards the dresses, he started laughing a little bit as he followed her. "Find anything good yet?" He asked as she was looking and a frown was starting to form.
"No, there's nothing here." Zoya said with a small whine.
". . . Zoya there's like a whole run of racks you haven't gone through. Look at all the clothes. There's bound to be something in here we can use. Even if it's not just like what we need. If it's a color we can dye it'd work." He watched as his younger sister made an o, face. He was thumbing through and pulled off a dress from the rack, it was a simple white sun dress, "Like this. If it fits you I'm sure it'll work."
He also managed to pull a few more dresses off that looked like they'd be easy to alter and dye, a couple of them were white, one was yellow. There was also a pink and green one he'd pulled off. "She wore green in Equestia Girls so I mean it can't be that far off. The ears won't be hard to make and a pink bow I'm sure they'll know who you are." He handed her the dresses as they neared the dressing room. "Just try 'em on and see what you like sis."
Zoya nodded softly as she was ushered into a room by one of the workers to try on the dresses.
Feliks stayed nearby and explained what they were attempting to do and showed the lady what sort of ideas he'd head. Hoping that perhaps she could help them as well if Zoya didn't like any of the dresses he'd managed to find.
Each dress Zoya tried on he watched as she rejected them. The first one didn't fit right, the second was too baggy, "It can be taken up Zoya, that's not as bad as having to remake the whole thing." He insisted. Though she was stubborn, and didn't like the shade of yellow on the last one, her arms were crossed as she looked at Feliks, clearly this wasn't going well.
Feliks sighed as he shook his head, his sister continuing to stare at him unhappily. However, the sales lady managed to come back with something that might've been useful. Feliks was looking at it, he seemed thoughtful as Zoya continued to look disappointed. "Try this." He said shooing her back to the fitting room.
Zoya came back out looking at the dress and spinning around, it was an off white color. A small place on the side where it looked like something had happened to it but otherwise it was still new from what they could tell. Zoya looked curiously, "I like it, can you dye it the right color?" She asked looking at Feliks as she debated.
"Of course I can dye it Zoya, it's not like off white is difficult to work with." He gave a hallow laugh and shook his head, glad she finally found an acceptable dress. "Is there anything else you wanna look at in here? See if they've got anything cool hiding in the toys or books?"
"Sure!" Zoya agreed with a nod as she followed Feliks around a bit, gathering a couple of books one had pony the other two had something cute on them. There was also a small plush rainbow dash that Zoya wanted and she proceeded to stare at Feliks hoping he'd agree she could have them.
"Alright Zoya!" He said with a laugh as he took the things up to the counter, having grabbed himself a book as well. He pulled out the money and paid for the items, taking a bag and gave a wave to the sales lady. "Now then, Hot Chocolate or Ice cream?" He asked as they walked out of the Goodwill.
Zoya seemed to pause outside as she put her skates back on and the bag went into her backpack with her shoes, "Hot Chocolate, with a cinnamon roll?" She asked looking up at Feliks, "You said we could split the roll?"
He nodded as he grabbed his skateboard from where he'd hid it. "Okay, Hot chocolate it is! Grannies Dinner should be open, do you want to go there or somewhere else?" He paused, "You know she has those huge Cinnamon Rolls." He added as they headed off, pausing while Zoya decided.
"YES Grannies, totally!" Zoya agreed
The pair took off towards the small dinner that was a little larger than a hole in the wall and laughed as they headed inside. Since it was Grannies and she usually didn't care Feliks let Zoya keep her skates on as long as she promised to be careful and behaved in the dinner. They grabbed a booth and settled in Feliks leaning his board beside him in the seat.
"Hey! Welcome to Grannies!" The lady said as she handed them a menu only to pause when Feliks smiled and handed his back.
"We know what we want actually, two Hot Chocolates, with extra Marshmallows, in Styrofoam cups so we can take those to go when we finish and a cinnamon roll." He said the waitress nodded jotting down the order, "Oh, and can we get two plates?" He asked, it would be easier to split the cinnamon roll since Zoya was sitting across from him.
"Of course dear!" The waitress said as she disappeared into the back with their order.
It wouldn't take too long but Zoya had already pulled out one of her new books Feliks noticed, "So is that a pony one you didn't have?" He asked as he looked at the cover to see which it was. It did seem interesting specially since it was a longer chapter book he hadn't seen before. Glad he could actually help her find a book she enjoyed, Zoya nodded as her eyes ran over the pages.
The cinnamon roll and hot chocolate didn't take long as the waitress came back handing Feliks the cinnamon roll, extra plate beside it and two sets of silverware. The hot chocolate cups were set in the middle close to each of them. "Thank you!" Feliks said as she smiled taking the fork and knife halfing the cinnamon roll and sliding part of it over on Zoya's plate.
"There we go, halved it with you." He said as he slid the plate over to her and made sure she could reach the silverware which was promptly unwrapped by his sister who was still interested in her book. Though she paused to sip on her hot chocolate and take the fork to start cutting into her cinnamon roll.
"That must be a good book." He tempted, knowing that he wasn't going to hear much out of her until she either finished the book or the cinnamon roll. Whichever came first, if Feliks had to guess it would be when she finished the Cinnamon roll.
He sat there eating his own and sipping on the hot chocolate doodling a little as he ate and making notes of things he still needed to do for her costume. He needed two large stain ribbons that were pink, one that was good for a butt bow and the other for a hair bow. He planned on dip-dyeing the dress, perhaps he could attempt to ombre it? It was something he'd have to ask Zoya when he got ready to dye the dress. Then he'd just need yellow ears and to make a matching pony tail that worked for the outfit.
