Business was always Marlo's area of expertise. He thrived on making deals, riding the line of negotiation and demand. He was intoxicated off of the idea of being the break, the one to make someone bigger that they were, to be the one who 'discovered' them. His ego took absolute joy in it. So when he'd read Olga's works, (and wondered if she had sent him her finest or just what was job relevant), Marlo had come to the conclusion Olga would be a sound investment.

Aside from being an amicable sparring partner at the gym, she has a talent, and talent was best put to use. A date and time set to meet her to discuss the actual terms and conditions, he'd offered it to be at the hotel's restaurant as her first true exposure to his business. She'd still get her three nights stay of course, but he thought the restaurant would be the easiest way to get her acquainted to the ambiance of the place.

Suit and tie, polished shoes, cuff links and even a handkerchief, Marlo was dressed every inch the business man he was, and had ever intent to get Olga to sign on that night. He was not one to let talent slip from him.

And that was how Marlo ended up waiting in the lobby of his own hotel while a few of his staff wondered why he hadn't simply had his secretary wait for him.

Olga had this. Or so she first thought. She did some reading on professional business practices for writers, so she had an idea on how to navigate that and she was really, really, really excited that it would be a meeting at the ritzy hotel's restaurant---

Oh yeah, this was going to be--

Wait.

Ritzy hotel's restaurant. He was inviting her to dinner---

What. W-was this a d-d-d-d-d--- She couldn't even form the thought. That was one panic. The next was realizing that she needed to dress for ritzy hotel restaurant. She looked at her closet and questioned her life choices. Jeans for every day, sweat pants for the gym, and sleep shorts for well--sleeping. Outlander t-shirts forever. A few plain t-shirts. Tank tops for the gym, and also sleep shirts.

She didn't own one nice professional thing because she thought it'd be like four years before she'd need it--

Her life was over.

Wait. Wait a minute. She shoved some of her Outlander shirts aside and---bless her mother. Bless. Wind Sayle was truly a saint. She had bought her daughter one cute, but casual knitted tan cardigan that could be dressed up or down. Her mother had said 'because you never know' and 'just in case'. Bless her mother. Olga nearly wanted to cry, but she didn't. She had somewhere she needed to be, and now she was.

Olga couldn't help but still feel out of place as she entered through the first set of hotel doors, but she managed with the best she could. Black jeans, a plain black t-shirt, tan lace up boots, and her tan cardigan, with her hair pulled back into an itty bitty bun. Gosh...she still felt like she was going to be kicked out at any minute for having a cardigan that wasn't knitted from the purest sheep wool that was the texture of a cloud and fed grass from the other side of the gates of Heaven...and seeing Marlo there dressed to nines just made it worse.

Maybe life was over. One more set of doors, and Olga squared her shoulders. Fake it until you make it---and own up to it. She strolled towards Marlo, and raised a hand in greeting as she grinned at him. "Good evening! It's really good to see you again!"

To say he was just slightly underwhelmed would have been accurate. He worked with designers and had simply grown to expect people to arrive in things that cost more of a month's paycheck or more. Yet- Olga looked nice. Fitting of her profession which he really shouldn't judge. In another time, he'd likely have been in her position as well, wearing what was most comfortable and yet flattering. His smile was slow to arrive, but by the time he was in front of her, it was there in full force.

"Evening, I hope you arrived hungry as I told the cook I'd be privately entertaining a guest tonight, so the man knows to make his finest." He offered her is arm waiting until she'd taken to his side before he guided her past the marble pillars, the plants in overly modern pots, and the small line of people waiting in the restaurant's reception area.
"Ah sir! We have your table read-" The host paused, slightly taken aback that it was a woman with Marlo. But also she wasn't dressed like one of the usual corporate wives or arm candy that so frequented the establishment. "Er, ready sir. Right this way." The poor man nearly tripped as he guided them to the booth, which had already been roped off for them.

It made Marlo chuckle as the man left.

"Please Olga sit wherever you like. You're my guest to night, and I have every intention to see you getting the full Xanis experience."

Somewhere Elzo would have laughed at how terrible that sounded.
"Business doesn't begin on an empty stomach. Can't, it's an Italian thing."

"Oh yeah---" Olga replied with a wide grin. "Comes with the college kid territory!" Being hungry that is. She may have internally spazzed as Marlo offered his arm---wow...so legit. So chivalrous. She didn't care what he said. He was definitely bringing chivalry back. She did take his arm, and tried her hardest to look like this was what she did every other day---dine with CEOs at fine establishments--but she didn't. Her eyes were darting this way and that in a silent and wide show of wow.

She gave a grin to the host, and when they arrived at the booth, she nearly choked. It was roped off!? Holy mackerel. She needed to freak out at Nadia right now but she couldn't. "Er----right!" She let go of his arm and ended up veering to the right, plopping down into the booth seat and sliding until she was in the middle of it.

"Oh, yeah? Sounds right up my alley!" She beamed at him. "Are you from Italy, then? Where there?"

College- a thing he had only partial experience with. The benefit of being handed a company at a young age he supposed.

Olga's enthusiasm was refreshing, as was her notable rapture with the hotel itself. For Marlo is was everyday, it was just business as usual. It was... nice to be reminded that things were simpler really, that he was simply different and it wasn't seen as something negative. A slightly twisted logic but it helped him.

"North of Florence." It was about as specific as he'd say, given that he was never sure, and, most people didn't know anything outside the major cities anyway. "I was born there, but most raised in the states. Business took me back to Europe for a while, so I can do a perfect yank accent if I forget that I have one, " His accent was indeed, definitively New Yorker, "or I get as I am told, the sensual Italian. I personally think that they just say that because they know it bothers me." They being Elzo and a few of his associates.

Both accents were distinct yet Marlo shrugged. "I don't.. use them much. They just tend to happen out of habit than anything. But we digress. Order anything you like off the menu, alcohol included." She was over 21 right? Had to be. He guessed. If not he'd be slightly disappointed he'd not at least get to splurge and crack open of his favorites.
"Once we order, we can discuss your work."

"Oh wow! That's really cool!" She had a vague idea of where in Italy that was. "Do you have any memories of it? Your time there when you were young, I mean?" She laughed. A New Yorker and a sensual Italian huh?

...Writing fodder!

"But accents are awesome!" She was incredibly biased, especially since her crush had a serious one. When guided to the menu, Olga picked it up and looked it over, and her face might have gone blank. Well, first off, she would not be ordering any alcohol because she was underage, and didn't care for it anyways. Second...the prices of these things. Some of these bottles of wine and what not were...so expensive like....ridiculously expensive. Like she couldn't believe people had that much money to spend on one bottle when she was struggling to buy sandwich meat, bread, cereal and milk on her allowance.

Also...he was the one who invited her to dinner...did that mean he was paying? She sure hoped so---because glancing at the dinner prices...she'd be doing dishes here for three months just to pay it back. Holy moly.

"Uh---I think I know what I want? A root beer---" Did they ever have commoner's drink here? She shot him a sheepish grin. "If there's any---if not, I'll have water---and filet mignon with mushroom wine sauce?"

Marlo shook his head. "None I like to remember. The memories I do chose to recall, are mostly of me and my brother." He didn't dwell on it, and offered no further insight. Unpleasantness, and, a poor start to what later would be a business meeting. He he held back the small laugh in his throat. "A&W. Fine dining, people still have kids they need to feed. Better to bring them here where a parent can keep an eye on them versus left in the hotel room with room service."

A quick wave to the waiter, and he set his order. Allowing Olga to order for herself. He had chosen seared duck breast with grilled asparagus, with the waiter's recommended pairing.

"So." He began. "Do you feel confident in your writing? And, would you feel confident doing your writing here?"

"Ah--" Yikes. Okay then. Olga's grin was a bit awkward, but she eagerly grabbed onto a shift in conversation. "Fair enough!" She was very thankful for the kids who came in then. She was getting her root beer, and placed the order for so right after Marlo.

She sat in her seat a bit straighter as Marlo started, and listened for a moment, before she replied without hesitation, "Yes! And yes, I would!" She smiled widely. "Though I have focuses, I know I can also spin my writing to suit whatever the project is!"

Marlo would rather children be where staff could see them. He'd had enough reports of crayons and markers on walls to last him a lifetime. His wine arrived along with the usual bread sticks and two very small salads. Marlo left his alone, preferring to just start sipping his drink.

"I'll let you have your pick of which room you'd like to stay in. A client canceled last minute due to company stock trades being on the decline, so one of our larger executive suites opened up. Also I've had a list drawn up of activities and accommodations you'll have. Which will include a guest to accompany you to the spy if you wish." It was generous, but- "My brother insisted that women don't go to spas alone, and I really don't know much about that."

He sipped more of his wine. And soon enough their meals were brought out.

"So Olga, tell me about how you became a writer. Most people want to get into things like tech and business. Any particular work that influenced you?" He ate small bites, more focused on conversation than meal.

Oh woooooow! Bread sticks and salad! She was probably getting way too excited about this. Olga did not leave her's alone, and in fact, munched on them as she listened, nearly choking on her food. She...had to pick? Already it was too much she was getting a free stay---she was sure at this point even the most basic room would blow her mind. "Uh---whatever is available, I will happily take!" That was a safe answer, right? Also, she was going to die. Activities and a spa!?

"Uh----I don't mind going to the spa alone---" Her voice dropped to a mock whisper, "I told you I wasn't a lady, Marlo." Er wait---was it okay to crack jokes during a business meeting? Was this a business meeting? Or was this a d-d-d-da---

Oh look! Their meals came out!

"Um---nothing special, honestly." Her grin turned a bit sheepish. "Parents read to me when I was young, yeah? I got older and read a lot on my own, and I loved that words could take me somewhere else, and then it occurred to me---hey! Instead of letting other people take me places, I could write, and take people places that I made up! Well---" She paused for a moment. "Yeah. There was one work in particular...my mom read it to me when I got a bit further in grade school, so I grew up with it---the Outlander series, by Diana Gabaldon."

Yeah. She loved Outlander before it was cool.

Marlo blinked at her, slightly taken back that she would not jump at the chance for a more lavish room. Olga was it would seem, humble and rather charming in wishing to not be demanding. "If you leave such choices to me, I will maintain our original agreement then. And I told you, I am Italian, Olga. That means you get me being slightly overbearing and attempting to feed you too much and lavish you with all I can offer while you're my guest. That is simply how things are done." His mouth was a thin smile, mirth not lost on him.

"It is the hosts job to see that his guest's stay is the most pleasurable." His accent had been intentional, thickly laced Italian yet stern in tone.
"And I would see you taking all I had to offer."

He then took a bite of his meal, smiling as she spoke of her favorite book and history with literature.
"While I am unfamiliar with the series, I will make note of it. You mentioned being able to take people places- which is the exact reason I need a good writer. Possible customers want to experience something without being here. The cost of a stay is expensive for good reason, but a customer wants assurance and to be convinced the costs are worth it. Would you say when people read your world, they are transported, or merely watchers to a story unfolding?"

"Uh---" Olga stared at him, her eyes going a bit wide and her cheeks turning a bit red. She then waved a hand at him. "Well---in this case---it's okay for the choice to be beyond my control!" She laughed, as not having to be the one to pick definitely took a lot of pressure off. "You can put me anywhere, and I'll think it's really awesome!"

She took some more bites of the best dinner she ever had (outside of mom's home cooking, of course), and listened. "Oh well---" She pointed her fork at him animatedly as she spoke. "I think it depends on the situation, and good writers should be in control of what effect they want! Sometimes you want people to be immersed, and sometimes you want people to be only spectators!" She gave him a fox eyed grin. "For your hotel though---it'd definitely be the former! You wanna suck people in, but then leave them wanting more because they don't actually have it yet!"

Marlo looked at her, and decided for her. She'd stay in the pre-selected room. Poor thing seemed a touch overwhelmed. He couldn't however, say she wasn't adaptive. Writers were only as good as their works, and while he saw her potential with a pen, he wanted to see how that reflected in per as a person.

Her response earned her a smirk and he continued on with another bite of his meal before he continued with her remark.

"Well said. Once we're done with dinner and desert, you'll have to just do me a small favor." He'd not say what it was, not until they finished.

Lucyal
we can time skip dinner/dessert if you like cuz YEAH GOTTA SIGN DA PAPERS and ask ofc dumb marlo Qs b/c his a b*****d

Whew. Okay. Maybe she had this so far! The thought that she wasn't bombing this at least was reassuring.

Olga's fork paused half way up to her mouth as she blinked at him. "Uh---okay...!" Oh. Hrm. Curious! She hated that as well, though. Hnngh. She wanted to know now. As a result, she ended up eating her meal a bit faster, just to get to that point sooner. She also couldn't believe she was getting desert too. Creme brulee it was! Because it sounded so fancy and she always heard so much about it. It didn't disappoint.

At the end of dessert, Olga dropped her spoon into her cleaned out dish, and then looked up at Marlo across from her. Of course, the anticipation of this small favor and what it could be had been gnawing at her like a dog on a bone all throughout the rest of dinner and dessert.

"So...what's up? This...small favor...?"

He looked around and motioning to their waiter, he stood before signalling their leaving.
"Well, it's come back my office first so we're in private. Then I'll tell you want I want of you." He held out his hand from her and led her from booth to the elevator, using a key card to reach his office floor. The twin doors opened to a standard office setting, with cubicles, and of course, a secretary desk by two large doors.

He was smirking.
"Thus far, I am completely impressed, just, I need to make sure you can handle working under me is all." Opening the doors there was a desk- two actually. One with hard files, the other hosting a computer and a few other items.

There was also a small fantail goldfish swimming in it's own little tank.
"I want an asnwer, a true answer." He walked over to his desk, taking the plush and cliche seat for himself. One seat remained, and in it, was a small stack of paper- her contract.
"What do you want most out of this project Olga, Money or Fame?"
