Autumn nights were the best. Working late on nights where the weather was cool was wonderful, even if she was dead tired…the cool breeze that blew through her hair made it all worth it. Cambria still smelled faintly of booze and onion rings, but it didn’t matter, a nice long shower and her warm bed would fix all of that soon.
It had been a good night for tips so that was a plus. Though…every night that Zack wasn’t there was a good night for tips.
She thought back to her conversation with Evan and grinned a little. Yeah. She’d make bank if Zack would only leave. But, that wouldn’t happen, probably at least.
Cambria glanced around, feeling slightly uneasy. The night was just a little too quiet and she wasn’t sure why that was. Maybe she should have powered up…maybe walking home this late was a stupid thing to have tried to do but…
Her hand slipped into her pocket, fingers wrapping around her henshin pen tightly. Should she risk it? She wasn’t sure at the moment…

Just because Zack wasn't scheduled to work at the bar didn't mean he wasn't working. Sort of.
He had powered up and was minding his own business, patrolling about the city. Doing his usual Negaverse dirty.
Except, things were odd, tonight. He'd seen half a dozen muggings and didn't know if he'd missed some memo about everyone going crazy today.
…So he'd decided to stick around for a little extra to make sure Cambria got home safely. He knew she worked, and he didn't like the idea of her getting into some spat. He'd thought about Zack coming to pick her up, but so soon after last night? Yeah, he didn't want to seem too clingy or desperate, so this was really just the safest idea. Besides, he could trail her quietly, make sure she got home, and then get back to his own business.
He lingered, not quite in the shadows, but certainly far enough away that he didn't think she could see him.

After a few more steps, Cambria stopped, looking behind her and frowning. “Who’s there? I have pepper spray, and I’m not afraid to use it on you.”
She had no pepper spray…but she really hoped that would at least make whoever it was think twice about, well. Being there. “Seriously, if you don’t get lost I’ll come after you and kick your butt and you won’t like how pepper spray feels. It hurts like heck.”
Not that she even knew how it felt…but hey. Bluffing was the onlything she could do…and maybe there wasn’t even anyone there…that would be good…s**t why hadn’t she powered up for this nonsense? Tomorrow she was driving to work…yes indeed.

Sanidine ought to have groaned; of course Cambria would ruin his plans. Ugh, and she was going to make him seem like such a creep. He debated for a moment on not moving and just waiting until she was walking again so he could shadow her a bit further, but maybe patience wasn't a strength of his.
After a few seconds and with a bit of a huff he pulled out of the shadow and walked, hands shoved into his pockets towards her.
"I'm only coming out so you don't freak yourself out. I wasn't even going to get too close to you, so don't make a big deal out of this. As far as I see it, you and I are only heading in the same direction, and given that things are a already a little odd tonight, I didn't want you to think I was trying to get you mixed up in something fishy, all right? …So it's your own fault that I'm even interacting with you right now. Keep your pepper spray, I'm not up to anything."

Well crap. When Cambria saw just who it was, she wished that she had just kept walking. Or even wished that she had actually had pepper spray. Sanidine…wasn’t someone she had wanted to meet when she wasn’t powered up…but she thought that maybe because…well. She was still her…maybe he wouldn’t try to kill her.
Or anything else.
Yikes.
“So you were just trying to look out for me, hm? I don’t know if I trust anyone who looks like that to look out for me. Honestly you look like one of the terrorists that prowl the night, or maybe you’re just a misguided soul who is way too early for Halloween.”
She kept walking, glancing back towards him every few seconds. Yuck. This was not a situation she had wanted to get herself into. Not tonight. Ugh.

Sanidine just shrugged as she spoke; he knew what he looked like, and while this outfit wasn't necessarily up to his tastes, it did a good job of letting him do whatever else he wanted. He'd take a bad outfit in exchange for some nifty powers any day.
"Sorry to disappoint, then. I wasn't really asking for you to trust me, though," he said, keeping a casual pace behind her. He didn't move too quickly, keen on keeping her comfortable and feeling safe. "But I'll be out of your hair soon enough, I suppose. There wasn't someone you could call for a ride or anything? It's been crazy outside. Seems like everyone's on the prowl for trouble. A pretty thing like you would be an easy target. No offense," he insisted. "But I saw a grown man attacked by a flock of teenagers. Beaten to a pulp, nearly. Not even terrorists, or anything the news is going on about. Just a group of kids looking for trouble."
He was strolling casually, still thinking on the attack. "…I live around here," he said—not a complete lie. "…I'd be upset if someone I knew wound up like that."
Her, especially.
So far as he was concerned, she was his. He wasn't going to let anyone else lay their hands on her.

Cambria nodded and sighed. “Well…I suppose that makes your presence a bit nicer, but if you think of trying anything you oddball…vigilante, I will be forced to use the pepper spray so…just be warned.” She fell quiet, continuing to walk, and finally waited until they were right near her house…but not too near…she didn’t want this Negaverse…flirting wonder to know where she lived so…
With a sigh, the girl stopped and looked at him, holding out a hand. “Well, thank you for the companionship on my way home, I appreciate it and I hope you have a nice night…I live near here so I’m sure I’ll be fine.”
She gave a grin and hoped he would take the hint. She was ready for this buddy system to turn into a solo act.

For a moment, Sanidine seemed thoughtful and then he flashed a smile and took her hand. He gave it a firm shake and then withdrew it.
"Well, you've been decent company. You take care of yourself."
She was smart not to show him right to her house...not that it made a difference. He already knew where she lived. This wasn't the first time that Sanidine had followed her home and even if the lieutenant didn't know where she lived, Zack knew well enough.
"I'll let you do this last bit on your own. You just scream if anyone does anything fishy. I'll give you your space, but I'll be around. See you 'round."
