User ImageAfter spending most of the last season fixing her best friend's romantic problems with a lion who was far too stupid to deserve her, Worknesh was convinced that most lions were idiots who could not be trusted with even the simplest of tasks.

It didn't warm her cockles even a little that both Hviske and Matumaini credited her with helping them get together. She knew that. She'd done it on purpose, with the intent of getting them together. So she had succeeded, and she was pleased about that, particularly since Hviske was so deliriously happy all the time, but she was also with Matumaini all the time, and Worknesh was Hviske's friend, not Matumaini's.

At this moment, she was doing her best to avoid her lovey-dovey friend, because it was all getting to be a bit much. She really just wanted some time where she could think about herself, and only herself, not Hviske or Matumaini, or anyone else. She just wanted to be a little selfish and enjoy herself. It didn't seem like too much to ask.

The Captain had been in this land for a few days now, and had so far met several interesting creatures. Two seers had approached him, though the male had been less than polite, staring suspiciously at him the whole time. The female, a lovely tan with a right yellow tail, had been positively chatty and had happily explained to him who the pride was and where. She had spoken in an intriguing and unusual manner which he assumed was local to this pride. Nevertheless he had learned a great deal and had felt it safe to stay a while, having sent his reavers on back towards home. It would give them valuable experience without him there to tell them what to do. And honestly he didn’t think they would run into any trouble.

So now he was free to relax and take a little time to himself, something he never managed to do back home with so many reavers under his command. A sound up ahead caught his attention and he pushed his idle thoughts to the back of his mind, ears pricking, pawsteps solid upon the earth. Every stride swung the medallion he wore against his chest, the metallic surface glinting. Drawing closer he saw it was a lioness, certainly a local for she had a similar build to the yellow-tailed female from yesterday, and lacked that thin, malnourished appearance most rogues possessed. “Greetings.” He called out, tone heavily accented but perfectly polite. He did at least know better than to offer his standard hello, it tended to send strangers running.

He cut an impressive figure with the typical Stormborn build, tall and muscular from a lifetime of battle, his scars mostly hidden under his thick fur. There was an assurance about the stranger, a sense of calm, as if he knew no one could challenge his right to be wherever he desired to be.

Worknesh looked up as a strangely accented voice called out a greeting to her. The Pridelands were enormous, with a population that really shouldn't have been sustainable, and many of the lions living there came from other places, other prides. Worknesh had been raised to be fairly open-minded about that sort of thing, but that didn't mean she wasn't intrigued by an unfamiliar accent.

"Hello," she replied, standing up so that she could get a better look at the lion. And...goodness. That was a seriously good-looking lion.

"What's your name?" she asked, hoping to draw him into a conversation that would allow her to enjoy his accent a little more.

Having only heard one word spoken in it so far, she didn't have much of an opinion on it, other than curiosity, but she thought she might enjoy it. Even if she didn't, he was good-looking enough that she could ignore an obnoxious accent for a while.

It would have amused him to be mistaken for one of this pride, not that it would necessarily be a bad thing. He just had never considered himself anything other than Stormborn and they were typically unlike any other lions they met outside the pride. Even within the pride, one could usually tell who was Old Blooded by their build alone.

As she stood he allowed himself a moment of appreciation, admiring her figure now that he could see mor of her. Though he didn’t linger enough to be considered rude, Lucivar prided himself on being an approachable and sensible sort, and openly ogling a female would only earn himself a sharp slap, like as not. Instead he offered a friendly smile.

“I am Lucivar.” He replied, drawing closer now and finally stopping a pace or so from her, perfect talking distance without getting all up in her personal space. He didn’t feel the need to announce his rank, it was a fairly crass way of introducing himself to someone when it held no bearing on how they interacted. Out here in the Pridelands, he was just another male. It was kind of refreshing actually. “It is a pleasure to meet you… “ Head tipping expectantly he hoped she would supply her name.

"Lucivar," she repeated. It definitely sounded foreign, a little twisty to get her mouth around.

Her blue eyes widened somewhat as he moved closer to her, until he was within about a pace of her. He might not realize it, but a lion as large as he was tended to seem more in one's personal space than they might mean to, simply on the basis of size alone. At any rate, she certainly felt petite now.

"Worknesh," she said, filling in the obvious blank he'd left for her and adding a smile. "You're not from around here, are you?"

It was an idiotic question, but it wasn't a bad invitation for him to tell her more about himself. One thing Worknesh liked very much was having information, secrets were best, just because she liked to know things. In this case, however, she was specifically interested in knowing about this particular lion, because he was just stupidly attractive.

He bobbed his head at her pronunciation of his name, settling back on his haunches as he realised just how much larger he was. It had never really been a consideration, not back home obviously, and typically out on a viking he was trying to be intimidating. But the flash of expression on her features made him realise and he hoped to lessen his… looming by sitting. Whether or not it worked, well, not much he could do about that.

“Worknesh.” He returned back to her, equally testing out her name and finding the rhythm of it unlike what he was used to. Still, it was a pretty name and certainly a match for the lioness. She was indeed quite becoming. Her question didn’t strike him as idiotic, rather it seemed a completely sensible one, considering. “No. My home is on the cliffs, by the coast.” He agreed, pausing to motion back behind him. “A great distance that way. I am from the Myrsky Syntynyt.” He didn’t expect her to know the name of his homeland, few did this far out. But it was only polite to give her a name with which to associate him by.

Smiling again he studied her, growing more and more curious all the while. “And am I correct in assuming you are local to this area?” It never hurt to ask after all, and while he assumed she was indeed of this land, she could have been travailing, or maybe visiting from a neighbouring pride.

"I am not even going to try to pronounce that," she said with a laugh, speaking of the name of his pride. "But it sounds like an interesting place."

She had very limited experience of cliffs, unless one counted Pride Rock. Probably one had to, since it was definitely a cliff of sorts, but it was a strange sort of cliff, and definitely not coastal. She couldn't really imagine a coastal pride at all, despite the lake that served as a watering hole for her pride. It was big, but not big enough to have a coast. Just a shore.

"Yeah...I was born and raised here. Which isn't really as dull as you'd think. The pride's huge and there are so many people, you can meet someone new every day, practically." Not that she was social enough to want to do that, but she could.

"So...you're not staying," she surmised.

She hoped she didn't sound too disappointed by that, because she wasn't disappointed, per se. Just, well okay. She was a little disappointed, because she would have liked the opportunity to ogle get to know him better.

"What brings you here, anyway? Do you have family in the pride?"

Chuckling he grinned at her comment. "I like to think so." He returned, smile warm and easy. "I haven't really found anywhere that is quite like it. But I suppose that is true of any pride. Especially when one is kept fairly isolated." His home was atop the cliffs and they deliberately kept their boarders well guarded, so he assumed it would be difficult for another culture to cross over, or indeed for his to get out. Any rogue that wanted into the Stormborn's land were required to join, be it as a thrall or a freeborn. And most never left again.

Ears pricking he listened to her attentively. He hadn't realised just how big this place was, and he could barely comprehend it. His own home was large, yes, but he knew most of its members if not by name then at least by family ties or as passing acquaintances. "It doesn't sound dull at all." He offered in reply. "There is nothing wrong with staying within your home. I was born a Stormborn and will always remain one, there is nothing that would make me wish to be otherwise. It is part of my job to leave my homeland however, so I get to travail and experience new places."

Her disappointed tone surprised him and he smiled reassuringly. "I don't have any pressing need to depart. I hoped to stay for a few days, and learn about your home. It seems like a very interesting place and being so big I think it will take a while to visit most of it, even if I don't manage to see all of it."

Pausing as she asked her question he shook his head. "No family. I happened to be travailing near by and wanted to come investigate, as I had heard there was a pride here," Well, he had sniffed them out actually, but that sounded kind of obsessive.

The more he spoke, the more Worknesh found herself falling for that accent. She wished she had worked harder to remember the name of his pride when he said it, rather than dismissing it as unpronounceable. If she could've remembered it, she would have actually gone to the effort later, once he moved on, to find out if there were any expatriates from the pride living in the Pridelands and gone out of her way to befriend them, just to listen to them speak.

"Are you a scout, then?" she asked, trying to place him in some sort of Pridelands rank, as she had no other frame of reference to use.

She would have guessed he was a hunter, from the confident way he carried himself, and the comfort he seemed to have with his own strength, but he had said that his job included traveling, and hunters didn't do that. At least not in the Pridelands. However, he had the build of a fighter, and she supposed scouts would have to fight, so...maybe? His response about learning about her home made it seem more likely.

"I don't imagine we'd be difficult to miss," she said dryly. "But maybe you've got some time to tell me about this isolated pride by the coast that apparently still sends out scouts?"

Tanakako
Geez. At this rate he may end up with a SB recruit.
PostPosted: Thu Oct 15, 2015 3:22 am

Tilting his head thoughtfully he wondered how best to explain his rank. "Not an official scout, though I suppose a lot of what I do is similar to that role. I am a Captain, and I manage a band of reavers, basically warriors who listen to and carry out my commands. We patrol our boarders, provide anyone who wishes to join the chance to prove themselves, and perform Vikings. Which is what brought me all the way out here. We collect supplies and new members for the pride back home." He wasn't sugar-coating the truth, not really, for while many Captains and reavers were far more violent, Lucivar had always conducted himself with honour and stoutly believed in good manners. He had never taken a thrall by force, his own had been rescued from certain death or enslavement and she seemed perfectly happy in her new role. He also took the security of his home very seriously and only those honest in their intent to become Stormborn were allowed in.

Her request was met with a nod of his head. "Certainly. What did you wish to know about us?" Chuckling low and easy he added. "Maybe not, but I am glad I didn't manage to do so. Your land seems a very fine home."

Princess_Feylin
Haha, he would be perfectly happy to take her home with him. XD Ooh! If you actually wanted her to move he could do that when he comes back and discovers his litters.
And I apologise for my many typos in the last post... Ipad loves to mess with my spelling and makes up words when it feels like it.

Worknesh listened, but her lack of life experience meant that she couldn't see through the very scrubbed down version of his life that Lucivar was presenting to her. She completely failed to grasp the fact that a lot of the lions who ended up joining his pride after being "collected" might not have wanted to do so. There was no way for her to have known it, after all.

"That sounds like a very exciting sort of life to lead. In your travels, have you ever found a place that you think you'd prefer to your pride, or is yours definitely the absolute very best?" She smiled, letting him know that she was teasing him a little bit.

It occurred to her a few seconds later that it might sound like she was inviting him to make his home here. Which she wasn't. She wouldn't mind if he lingered for a while, but she had decided that she didn't actually want him to stay. Though it would be totally great if he came back to visit from time to time after leaving.

Tanakako
I think I might send her to the SB. But I'd like to have her make her way there and have adventures (good and bad) on the way. Not until after she has cubs though.

He nodded in return, unaware that his attempt to not frighten her with tales of violent reavers and the misfortune that befell many a thrall had somewhat coloured her initial opinion of his homeland.

"I certainly couldn't ask for anything more. My life is as full as any lion could hope for." In fact there was only one thing he had so far utterly failed to acquire.. And that was an inheritance. Cubs. Descendants who would carry his name forward into the future just as he carried his father's and grandfather's names. It was something he desperately desired to fix. A litter or two to teach and raise in the proper stormborn manner. Yes he must have b*****d litters running around somewhere, but there was no possible way he could track them. Briefly he considered asking this female, and thought he dismissed the idea it lingered, rolling around the edge of his thoughts. After all… how would he know if he didn’t ask?

Pushing the question away with resolve he focused on what she had been saying. “I believe that to an individual, there is no place that can quite match up to your place of birth. It is home in all senses of the word, and even as an adult it typically holds a draw no other land can match. Of course there are exceptions, but so long as nothing bad happens to the land or the individual that is associated with ‘place’, home will always be home.” Grinning in return to show he certainly took no offence, and there was hardly any cause for it to be taken anyhow, he tipped his head. “What about you? Is Home a place you would ever desire to leave?”

Princess_Feylin
Heee! I hope she likes it as much as Luci does. X3 I will have to try and read her rps! And maybe she can meet Lucivar after she joins. That would surprise him. X3

Worknesh mulled the idea of leaving over in her head for a few moments before shaking her head definitively.

"No, I don't think I'm likely to leave the Pridelands. I want for nothing here, and all my friends and family live here, and I'm not convinced I have what it takes to strike out on my own." Her self-appraisal was not exactly flattering, but it wasn't inaccurate.

"In any event, I hope I'll see you around while you're here, and that you enjoy your time spent here."

Maybe he would come back and visit. It could be exciting to know someone from outside the pride who could tell her stories about the wide world. Plus, if he were only an occasional visitor, he wouldn't be problematic as far as relationships went. He could just visit for a short while, they could enjoy themselves, and then he'd be away before anyone else could be bothered.

Those last thoughts would have made her blush, had she not been a lion. All those assumptions that they might have some sort of physical intimacy, when she didn't even know if he was interested in her like that. What would Hviske say?

Tanakako
How do you want this RP to end?
PostPosted: Wed Oct 28, 2015 2:42 am

Watching her for a moment, he made a low unconvinced sound deep in his throat. “Don’t talk yourself down. You never know what you are capable of until you try, right?” He winked playfully. “I’ve met a wide variety of rogues, and you certainly have more presence than many of them.” Pausing he glanced around, studying the land. After a moment he turned back to her, a rather wry expression having replaced the playful tone of before. “Actually, I had been hoping to impose myself upon your hospitality a little more. I haven’t eaten for a few days but am unsure of your hunting customs here….”

He really did need to eat, his stomach had been gnawing at him all day and the last thing he wished was to piss of this pride which by all accounts, was rather huge and even if not full of warriors, they were not to be provoked. Plus he was enjoying himself too much to leave just yet. And then there was the other reason he had asked this particular, very pretty, lioness. He wanted to get to know her better. It would be nice to have someone he could call a friend while he was visiting. And who knew what may happen…

Princess_Feylin
We could probably finish this up soon? They could go off hunting together?

"As you say," she replied noncommittally, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with his optimistic appraisal of her worth.

Worknesh regarded him slantwise and wondered briefly how a lion so large managed to go a few days without eating. Surely it took a great deal of food just to keep his basic functions going. She could imagine that someone who led the sort of active life she expected he did must require more or less constant feeding.

"Our hunting customs aren't complicated. Basically, if you're hungry, you hunt. Most people in the pride are decent hunters. You have to be, with so many hunters around and prey at a basically finite number..." she trailed off, realizing that she was babbling about things no one really cared about. "At any rate, if you're hungry, we can probably find something for you to eat."
