gaia_star[ The garden ]: This area is a beautiful garden, but from it rises a tree, spanning high, high above you. The garden itself is overflowing with opulent green, it is strange to see so much nature mixed in with knowledge and yet, it makes so much sense to you as to why.
The garden itself is supported and maintained by swathes of Infected. The maintain their human forms and lumber around in a zombie-like state. They all wear grey coats.
(Roll 1d4 if you wish to interact with them - OPTIONAL - and match your dice roll to the results below. You can roll as much as you'd like!)
1. This infected is long not there. They keep on repeating I'm sorry over and over again. Occasionally, they will water the plants with a non-existent watering can, but most of the time they simply curl up and cry to themselves, rocking themselves back and forth. Their name reads Bekki Shae.
2. The infected seems to be surprisingly in good human shape, other than the top of its head and brain replaced entirely with fungus. It doesn't seem capable of thought, but is curious about you, following you everywhere and sometimes mimicking your actions. In it's pocket is a vial that is glowing red, opening it seems to make the liquid dissolve rapidly. The name on their nametag reads Glen Barrett.
3. The infected seems to have lost it's entire lower half, replaced by vines that slowly idle forward and backwards in uneven clumps. Occasionally, it falls, and then the vines pull its torso back up and tilt its head back to normal. It seems to be stuck holding something in the air, though the something it was holding is long gone, as it just pantomimes the action. The name on their nametag reads Dave Adolph.
4. The infected seems to carry itself with an air of importance even now. Their entire face is missing, replaced by blooming corpse blossoms instead. It smells terribly, though it doesn't seem too interested in talking to you. Occasionally it makes clicking noises, and you are able to translate it int words. Things like "she shouldn't have" and "the sacrifice was too great". Its nametag is missing.
Cecil was still trying to process everything, even after all this time he still struggled to maintain the vines that made up his form. He did his best to look like himself but the reality made his heart sink a little every time he looked down at the vines that made up his appearance. It didn't feel right and yet he knew this was how it was even as his body continued the struggle to survive beyond the tower walls. He knew this place was where he really and truly was.
Wandering had brought him to several different places but he ended up lingering in the garden. Somehow it was calming though he still avoided the infected that worked to maintain it. There was a lingering unease about them even though he knew they wouldn't bother him. Not like this. But he still kept his distance and continued to walk taking in the tall trees and strange fonna that grew there.

Was this what was meant to be? The beauty of the garden did not move Justin, still coming to terms with the Knowledge. The vines were not the same as flesh, with all its nerves and its senses, it was singular and unique and now he just knew. "This was hot, this was cold, there's a breeze in the air." but it wasn't the same as feeling it for himself. Themselves? It was difficult to explain. The vines gathered, coiled and wound themselves into curves and muscle like structures, tendonless and flexed awkwardly when concentration waned into a mess of vegetation. There were Thorn antlers and a vines of Blue Clematis weaving through Justins new form, a waterfall of honey colored climbing roses that cascaded down from the crown, the flowering parts gathering.
"It's still not the same." the thought emerged, with no way to actually speak it, from the space he claimed in the garden, away from the undying. The knowledge that such creatures would not bother him now, did nothing to calm his uneasiness around them, so instead he gave them a wide berth, let them focus on their duties. He just wanted to sit here, reminisce and look back with fondness and maybe a little bit of Envy.
The Tendrils of Blue Clematis wiggled and curled, emblazoning him with the Six that had him more at ease. It was familiar, and it made him complacent.
Another was roaming the grounds, another undying he thought. a thorn riddled individual that was mindless, but it was not. He could see with sightless eyes that it was a vined figure. another, like himself.
He was not alone in this. It brought even more peace. The Knowledge of a fellow companion in the same situation.

Words had filtered into his mind with ease. A distant thought that he could relate to. It wasn't the same. None of this was. The ability to see without eyes, touching without actually feeling. It was all so strange and foreign. Even then Cecil was reaching out to touch the base of a tree, the vines telling him what he should feel without actually touching it. How odd.
He drew back, the vines shifting and distorting until they gathered again to make his form. His movement was unsteady like he was still getting the hang of it.
"Have you been here long?" He took a moment to actually turn to the figure not sure how to convey a smile in this form. The vines only moved awkwardly about the face he had created for himself but he still tried to sound welcoming with his tone. It was better not to be alone. "It's still strange isn't it? This.." He held out his hand and the vines shifted and moved like snakes until they were still again.

It took very little to disturbs Justin's concentration, and the form would begin to fall apart, only to stop and reform again, a spattering of leaves that fell to the floor each time. He could tell that the part that was meant to be a face, the thin vines were trying to lift in a way, but became a strange mess. It became an ordeal to try and convey the simplest of movement, as simple as a smile.
"Been awake shortly, but how long i've been here, i have no idea." the thought was colored with sadness, the droop of the antlers like it was wilting from the darkened idea. "Strange, peculiar, disorienting is what i would use here." he added, the collage of roses from the crown sweeping across the bench. "from food to photosynthesis, and you?" the question resounded.
He could find out all on his own, the information was for them all to use.

"Not sure how long I have been here either." The vines lifted in lieu of a shrug. "Mostly been wandering, thinking and remembering. It's odd to know I am here and yet out there at the same time trying to survive."
Justin would find a string of emotions tied to Cecil's words confusion, doubt, hope, and despair all tied up into one gigantic knot. They were so tangled up it was hard to tell one from another but despite the flood of feelings Cecil seemed calm outwardly.
"I wonder what will happen to our bodies."

Justin was aware of the feelings that Cecil had, was this Empathy? "We are living our lives in two different locations and in here we cant feel it the way that we want to." He knew what those feelings meant, for they were the same within himself. "Im sure we on some level, know what will happen to our bodies, we just don't want to comprehend it." he continued, a vine thin and wiry, moved to curve downward.
Justin let the creeping vines in his limb like structure elongate, to move further out, sprouting new leaves as it went, to curl around Cecil's gnarled root of a hand. "you know there should be a sense of touch." he continued, without inflection "if this was different, you would feel a warmth there, and I would feel the same thing. But now we must rely on the logic behind it. tangible, body heat. " he breathed, a mimicked action of the vines moving outward then contracted back. It was a moot action, breathing like that during daytime.
"Maybe this is what our bodies will turn to. Maybe this is our real bodies, who knows, dear Cecil."

Though he could not see the frown properly he knew that was what was being conveyed. He could feel it more than see it. It and the words did little to ease his mind but he perhaps knew them to be true.
The head of the vines turned downward as Justin stretched out to him, vines twining around the roots he had fashioned into a hand. On command they began to move, curling gently around Justin's grip in a hold that was similar but far from what it should have been. Everything felt so muted this way, somber, and even Justin's mood reflected that.
"It feels a little empty." He replied. As connected as he was with everyone it still felt like isolation but he was growing to accept it because what choice did he have? "Maybe that's why I've been standing here thinking back."

"What else can we do but reflect?" Justin countered, unable to laugh like he wanted, loud and freely. It sounded different. "You know, Cecil." he began, beginning to drop vines and pulling them back into shape. "I loved you."
he spoke again after a pregnant pause, thinking it over. "Or is it better to say, I remember loving you." he tilted his rose covered head in thought. "I loved you all, each and every one. Not in the romantic sense." he elaborated, taking the time to explain.
"Its more like, the love one has for a family member, a mother, a father, brothers sisters even cousins. that type of connection." he rambled, soft spoken, but pure. He knew that it was impossible to feel it, but the knowledge of him trying to hold their hands tighter passed between them. "We bonded during the brief time period, and I remember it in fondness." the big white petals opened more, blooming fully along with the bright blue petals on his chest. "I gained a lot during the alleged end of the world, things that I never want to lose." grasping at the front of his chest.

What else could they do? "I don't know but I don't want to let go of what I had. Not really."
He turned to Justin and if he still possessed a heart he knew it would have been racing in his chest. Instead all he had was the distant memory of what that was like along with the nervousness that came with it. Emotions, they were strong and they gave him a sense of being grounded. Like he was real.
"Family?" Even though the word wasn't physically spoken it was breathed softly. Cecil didn't want to lose that either. What little family he had left had been at the university. It was a connection he had put himself at risk for to protect but he wanted to go back to that. He wanted to feel that connection and not just remember it.
"I was very fond of everyone." Cecil finally said. "I think I understand what you mean. Love for family. But it doesn't feel the same just remembering it." It felt lonely to only think back.

The true knowledge made Justin smile briefly, Eyes of bright blue berries that hung in place, for aesthetics and no purpose. "Technically we are not letting go of what he had, except for a body that could feel the bitter chill to our bones, the pang of an empty belly or gasping for a trickle of clean water." He reminded softly.
"I dont want to remember or witness such moments, dear Cecil." he admitted, curling his makeshift hand in the others. "Of course, yes it does not feel the same, but I wouldn't trade the moments we shared for anything in the world, our experiences are precious to me."
It was a sobering experience, the chance to reflect. "Those people, those creatures that came to save us, there is more going on than meets the eye."

Cecil thought about it and let Justin's words roll around in his mind. There was a truth in them but he felt that the pain of existence, the struggle, the hunger, and even the eventual death was what made life precious and beautiful. That's what living meant and this wasn't it. Here he knew he would lose touch, even with the memories of all the feeling and emotions he had experienced they would eventually lose their meaning. Such things didn't matter here.
He didn't speak his thoughts because he didn't have to, Justin likely got glimpses of them through their connect as everyone who cared to focus on it would. Instead he turned to the other creature who's body was made up of plants and foliage just as his was and moved closer. Vines that made up his arms reached out to Justin to encircling him, wrapping him up in an embrace that should have had more feeling to it than it did. "Maybe I'm foolish." He finally said. "But there is something I want to live for. I want to experience life like I did, even if its brief." But somehow he knew that would come at a price and he wasn't sure what that would be. Not yet.
"Thank you for being a friend, Justin. From before and now. It was people like you that made the pain worth it." Cecil began to pull back, vines slipping away and gathering back to his form that was once again losing shape.

The information trickled in, like a small stream, rivulets on how Cecil felt about this. It made sense, a different point of view on what was laid out before them, he couldn't fault the man on his own personal choice. " I Cannot fathom the choice to go back, even with your thoughts on it, but it does not mean that I cant respect your wishes. I do." the vines began to wrap closer. It was a delicate, tender action, when the vine complied with their will. The absence of touch was disorientating. "You are not foolish, dearest Cecil." he corrected. "It is your choice, as it is mine to watch from afar and try to make a difference." every choice came with a price, that much he was certain of, but the cost would probably be something important, he tried to convey to his family member.
The connection they shared, tangible was slowly separating, he knew that on some level that he should be against it, but the feeling was quickly being muted. He was already paying the price, it seemed. "You will always be family, Cecil, you and the others." he whispered, the vines shifting back in place. "The time we spent was fleeting, but it was irreplaceable and I will treasure it. always." he stopped, the vines shuddered as they struggled to keep him together as they fell apart to drop to the floor, to slowly rise back up to cover his remains like armor. "My love for you all will remain constant, untouched by times passage. never forget that."

The choice had been made and it was obvious how that choice was effecting his current body. The vines tried to pull back into place but instead they began to crumble bit by bit. Emotions were flooding back to him, the feeling that he had longed for, but with those emotions he finally understood the price. Slowly his memories of the struggle began to fade, each day blinking out like a light as if it never existed. It was terrifying to forget and he turned to Jason as he spoke.
He managed a smile this time, the vines pulling up to show the emotion he felt. Happiness. "I don't know what I will remember." Because it was slowly slipping away, memories falling through his fingers like grains of sand. "But I hope we can meet again someday."
No longer able to hold his form the vines crumbled to a heap on the ground. "Thank you for remembering." The words became distant, tapering off as the connection Cecil had once had with the vines was severed. All that was left was a lingering phrase that carried with it the emotion behind it. Hope. "Perhaps in another life, yeah?"

Justin already knew. The knowledge of what was happening to his family, Cecil and himself. "Maybe someday, we can meet again." grateful that this time, he could not feel the emotions that came with the moment.
It was just another memory to add to his collection, his legacy, of Cecil going back to his emotions, and his heartfelt thanks. " lets meet again, in the next life." he echoed, glad that Cecil was no longer connected to hear his true thoughts. "Silly, Just because you have a next life..."
