Lenore sat quietly in the old library, barely paying any attention to the words in the book before her. She was distracted, and had been for many months. The girl had a feeling something was remiss, that something was not as it should have been. It wasn't that Jin-Gitaxias was gone - the feeling had been there before that. It wasn't the sudden appearance of another member of the Bloodskull Legion, either. Something was wrong, and had been so for longer than she knew.

"I have to go."

Lenore blinked and looked up. What was that? Who's voice was that?

"I won't have you suffer like I did."

The teenager's brow furrowed in concentration. Why did that voice bring her such sadness?

"I don't want you to miss me, Lenore."

A word was on the tip of her tongue now. A name.

"Good bye, Lenore. Thank you for being my friend."

All at once, the memories came flooding back, as if a dam had broken. The friend she'd spent so much time playing games with. The friend she'd lost. Tears formed in the girl's eyes and streamed down her cheek.

"Ellie..." The girl whispered.

Lenore stared toward the corner where Elesh Norn had vanished, almost seeing the darkrai smiling at her. She moved a hand up to her right eye, rubbing the tears out of it. She forced a sad smile. "It didn't work, Ellie." She spoke to the imaginary darkrai before her. "I remember you again." She swallowed as the tears threatened to fall again. "I miss you...!" She exhaled a shuddering breath. "I, uh, I'm a lot stronger, now. I understand why you did what you did. Maybe it's best that I didn't remember until now." Tears welled in her eyes again, but she made no move to halt them. "I've made lots of new friends, since you left." She choked back a sob, the smile faltering. "But it's not the same as having you with me, you know...? You were so good to me, and I never thanked you properly." She wiped the tears out of her eyes, and took a deep breath. "I know you wouldn't want me to dwell on it forever. So, thank you, Ellie. Thank you so, so much."

The girl got up from the simple wooden table and walked over to the corner, her watery eyes on the darkrai she was seeing in her heart. She tried to force another smile, but failed to get it fully complete. "I love you." A noise behind her drew her attention away, and Elesh Norn vanished. A book had fallen off the shelf, and Lenore walked over to it and picked it up. The book had opened upon hitting the ground, and she was about to close it when a certain passage stuck out to her.

....the Pumpkin Festival was originally arranged to commemorate those lost. Usually held at the end of the harvest, it was a time to honor the spirits of people and pokemon alike. With a display of revelry, it showed the departed that life continues on without them, and not to worry about those they left behind....

Lenore scanned the following pages regarding the pumpkin festival. "This... this is it...!" The girl murmured. She decided then and there that she would start her own Pumpkin Festival.

She owed that much to Ellie.

Gathering her things, Lenore set out towards one of the minor farming settlements she'd seen on her way up to Inhinx - the one that had pumpkins. Trekking silently for a while, she made it to the settlement. The farmers looked up from their work at the sight of a girl approaching for a moment before returning to harvesting pumpkins.

Approaching one of the farmers, an old man, she called out tentatively. "Um... Excuse me?" The elderly farmer looked over at her over the rim of his spectacles and smiled.

"Well, hello, little girl. Are you lost? Don't see many people this far north."

"Uh, no, I'm actually looking to buy some pumpkins."

Standing up to his full height, he looked down at her. "Really? Gotta say, we don't get many teenagers interested in buying crops. Mostly people from the cities to sell at their stores. How many you lookin' to buy?"

Lenore shrugged. "I don't know. Seven, maybe?"

The old farmer's eyes widened, and he laughed. "'Seven', you say! That's a lot to carry for one little girl. Why are you even wanting to buy them, anyway? That's way more than you could eat before they went bad."

Lenore looked down. "I'm not going to be eating them. I'm starting a 'Pumpkin Festival' with my friends."

The old farmer blinked. "A pumpkin festival, you say?! Well, I haven't been to one of those since I was a wee lad. They kind of fell out of popularity when I was a kid! How'd you learn about them, uh, what's your name?"

"Lenore. And I read about them in a book. I want to hold one in my friend's honor."

The man frowned softly. "Your friend, huh? I'm sorry, but hey, why don't we make a deal? If you let me help organize this festival, I'll give you all the pumpkins you need. How does that sound?"

Lenore smiled softly. "That sounds fine. Thanks, Mr...?"

"Just call me Farmer Todd, Lenore. And we'll start with the seven pumpkins you requested, and if things go well, we'll get you more later."

Lenore tilted her head. "'If things go well'? What do you mean?"

Farmer Todd smiled with a twinkle in his eye. "If all goes well, there'll be lots of people coming. It's not a proper Pumpkin Festival without lots and lots of people. We'll need pumpkins for that, now, won't we?"

Lenore was speechless, so she just nodded.

What had she just started?
