Carmine was fairly certain that it had been obvious to anyone who encountered him the day after he became a Knight that he was hyped up. A few of the other teachers had commented on it - one had suggested he cut back on the coffee. But it wasn't caffeine, or any other drug, that had him on edge.
It was magic.
He should have stayed for hours, done grading work on the essay he had assigned - but he wasn't interested in that, for once. Usually he loved reading his student's words and providing feedback. Today, he had done a few, packed up the rest, and headed out. He tried not to take his work home, but sticking around was just not going to happen. At least it was a night when darkness fell early - so he could become Rannoch without having to worry about being spotted.
And as soon as he was cloaked in his new magical garb, he took to the rooftops. He had always liked parkour, but there was something extra special about how easily he could move now, flipping and leaping and bouncing from building to building with joyful abandon.
And then something caught his eye below him. Black and silver and galaxy and forest green --
"Caledonite!" The name tumbled out, and he bounced from rooftop to ground, landing a few feet away from the Lieutenant.

He had not expected the page to drop in on him... Quite literally at that too.
"Rannoch..." He said slowly. "What are you doing?" The young man was so eager to get away from him earlier, yet here he was again. "Have you taken a page from Eden's book and decided you need to tail me around the city?" He asked, almost bitterly. "I can assure you, I am up to nothing at the moment."
Cale crossed his arms, and regarded the page coolly. Rannoch had to have known Caledonite wouldn't just come back. Even with Eden's constant insistence and begging. "So... How's that feel then?" Cale waved an arm, gesturing towards his outfit as he moved closer. "Aren't you cold?"

"I'm not following you," the Page replied, "but I saw you and..." He took a breath. "I wanted to talk to you. Ask you what happened. How you ended up," he gestured at Caledonite's outfit, "like this."
Because he was curious - because all of this magic was so new and fascinating and he wanted to know how a Knight of Cosmos could end up in black, with a feeling about him that gave Rannoch goosebumps. The Page took a step closer to the officer, reaching up to run his hand through his hair.
"And what you said about...needing me. I thought. I mean, I went to my Wonder, and just for a minute I had...a vision, I guess? And I thought I saw someone who looked a lot like you." He wondered if Caledonite had any memories like that. Or visions, or whatever it had been.
He had so many questions. Maybe Caledonite had some answers.

"Ah." Cale said softly.
"Call it a feeling." He muttered, shrugging slightly. "I can't really explain it, so I don't know what kind of answer you're expecting. I just feel like you belong to me. ...With me, and not with-" Caledonite waved his hand again. "Whoever it is you're with." But that was pointless right now. "I had something like that. I mean, I don't exactly remember most of it for obvious reasons. But I think that's wear the feeling comes from." The green haired Lieutenant made a small noise before fiddling with his hand. "Here." He said, passing off his signet ring. "It doesn't work. I wasn't exactly sure what to do with it."
"Are you sure you want to know what happened to me?" He asked, moving closer. "You might not like the end of the story."

Rannoch reached a hand towards Caledonite, like he wanted to put a hand on his shoulder. But he stopped, dropped his hand, made a tiny sad noise. "I can't just leave her on a feeling," he said, and his voice was soft. He extended his hand again when Caledonite offered him the signet ring, and their fingers brushed for a moment, and he felt a brief..something. He turned it over between his fingers, considering it.
"I have one too. I found it right before I had that...vision." He held up his right hand, to show Caledonite his deep blue night-sky ring. "But I know I want to know what happened to you." And this time he didn't hesitate - he reached forward, resting his hand on Caledonite's arm.
"You say you think I...belong to you. If that's true, then can't you trust me?" It was a little manipulative, but he was desperate for answers.

"I told you. I don't know how you want me explain something I don't quite remember." When Rannoch offered his hand, the officer took it gently, raising the other's hand enough so he could properly see the ring. "It's nice." He said, his thumb ghosting over the piece of jewelry. "Rannoch is a lake I take it?"
He then snorted lightly. "I could say the same to you. You didn't know what I was doing when we met, yet you were quick to assume I was doing wrong." He had been mind you but, besides the point. "You didn't trust me then. Why should you trust me now? I could be up to something."
"I had agreed to meet a Corrupt, I'll explain what they are later. But despite that he was part of the Negaverse, I thought he was my friend. He had been sweet, from what I remember. He put on this show. He was shaking and talking about how he was in trouble with some people. I offered to help but he kept telling me there was nothing I could do." Cale shrugged lightly. "It didn't make sense, there was always something that could have been done. Next thing I know, he's suddenly freaking out and telling me to leave. By then I was... It was already to late. The General Queen showed up, and I didn't have power to do anything. Bracers only do so much Rannoch."

Rannoch let Caledonite touch his hand, and he nodded. "The water looked like it was all filled with stars. It was...really amazing. Maybe I can take you, sometime."
He exhaled. "I was scared, Cale," he said. The shortened name rolled off his tongue easily, naturally. "I didn't know what was going on. I still don't, not really - just a little. Just what Eden could tell me." He exhaled. "But I teach teenagers for a living. I can recognize when someone's hurting, or in trouble - and you are." He wanted to believe that. He wanted to believe that the tenderness he had seen Caledonite express towards Eden meant that he wasn't as lost as he wanted people to believe.
He fell silent when the Lieutenant began to tell his story. It sounded tragic - like a betrayal, which by Caledonite's framing it was. "It sounds like he wanted you to get away," the Page ventured, "if he was telling you to run." And then, genuinely curiously - "what's a General-Queen? I'm sorry, l really don't know much about your...Negaverse? Is that the word? At all."

"I would love to see it sometime." The statement was empty. He wouldn't be seeing anything like a wonder for a while. He looked at the ring again before letting Rannoch's hand slip from his own.
"And what did Eden tell you Ranny? Did she tell you that we're evil, that we can't be trusted?" The green haired man chuckled lightly. "I'm older than one of your teenagers.. I'm twenty two." From what Kerberos told him anyway, if he so chose to believe it.
"If he wanted me to get away, he wouldn't have called the General Queen. He wouldn't have met me at all. He set me up, Rannoch. He had been my friend. Or more then that. After everything went down, this guy said he had been my boyfriend. Can you believe that Rannoch? What kind of boyfriend does that? How can I believe what he said? After I was corrupted... I couldn't remember much, if anything at all. I didn't know who I was anymore Ranny... All I knew was that I had been Caledonia. What if he was telling me lies Rannoch?" Cale said, as he took his ring back, his fingers lingering briefly again the page's palm. "I don't know who I can trust."
"The Negaverse... Is what I am now a part of. I'm part of Chaos now. You though..." Cale's hand reached out, brushing the strand of hair that hung in Rannoch's face, out of the way. "You are a creature of Cosmos. Of Order. A General-Queen, is like... Royalty for the Senshi. We have two of them. Laurelite and Apatite. The Negaverse also had others. Both Queens and Kings, in the past. It was Laurelite, who the Senshi called. It was she, who corrupted me."Noir Songbird So the downside to this is sometimes i forget to use the right font color. stupid font colors

Rannoch swallowed. "She told me to be careful," he hedged, and he hoped that was enough. "Because some of you are dangerous - will want to do me harm for no more than the crime of being a Knight." He wanted to continue that thought, to challenge Caledonite - but not yet.
"Twenty-two? That's still young. You must have been just out of college, life just beginning - and then someone took that away." Rannoch found himself reaching after Caledonite, wanting more of those light little touches. "I'm sorry, for what happened to you. It was a tragedy."
His heart ached the more Caledonite talked - how he described the man who had corrupted him. "It's hard to believe, that someone could love you and still do that." He admitted. Maybe he was wrong in his assessment. Maybe Caledonite had been the victim of an elaborate ruse. "Who was he? Do you remember his name?" Because it felt important to know, to put a name to the picture the lost Knight was painting. To have an identity for the person who had taken Caledonite's life (apparently including his memories) from him.
He exhaled. "I suppose asking you to trust me asks too much," he acknowledged, but his hand still rested on the Lieutenant's arm. There was a brief startled expression on his face when Caledonite brushed his hair away - the magical styling left some of it loose enough to fall in his face, but he hadn't even noticed. All the tender little touches were setting him very much at ease.
"A General-Queen is your...ruler, then? Someone with the power to bring you over to her side, even against your will?"' That sounded utterly terrifying.

"She's right you know. Some will hurt you for just being a page. Some will go far beyond that. Others just seem to want to talk. As for myself..." Cale let his words die there. Rannoch didn't need to know what he was doing.
The corner of his lip twitched as Rannoch reached for him. He let the page take hand, doing what he wished with it. "Mmm.. I could have just graduated. I could have been enrolling again for something else. Who knows now." All in the past. "It's not your fault Rannoch." He said softly. "You don't have to apologize for that."
"He said he didn't know who I was at first. That I ended up doing something that made him realize it, and that apparently drove him to the hysterics. There is a time where I think I blacked out, but the senshi conveniently says it was during that time that he learned who I was. How can I believe him when he says that Rannoch?" It didn't matter now anyway. "...His name?" The question left him curious as to why Rannoch wanted to know it. "Why?" He asked, chuckling slightly. "Are you going to go find him and avenge my loss Rannoch?" Needless to say, the thought amused him. "His name is Kerberos."
"I trust you." He said softly, watching as Rannoch abandoned his hand in favor for placing it on his arm. "Why do you think I said I needed you. That you belonged with me? It's just a feeling, I know, and that's nothing to go off of, but I know I can trust that at least. If nothing else."
"Mhmm... Like I said, we've had other Kings and Queens in the past, but for now it's just the two. It can be forced upon someone, unlike Purification." He muttered. "In purification, the person needs to be willing, or else it won't work." Gently, Cale slipped his fingers around Rannoch's wrist, and removed the hand from his arm, only to place it on his chest. "In the case of Negaverse Corruption... Laurelite slipped her hand into my chest and corrupted my starseed. General's can do it too, but only if the person is a civilian. In my case, since I was a page, she had to be called."
"It hurt quite a bit Ranny. I lost... basically everything. I don't remember much aside from a few things. I was very angry." He still was.

It didn't escape Rannoch's notice that Caledonite avoided mentioning his particular purpose - but so far, he seemed safe. The man hadn't made threatening or violent moves against him, so Rannoch felt secure in assuming he would continue to not do so.
He was content to simply rest his hand on Caledonite's, letting his fingers trace over the green-haired man's palm. There were callouses there, but not many - perhaps new ones? It was the beginnings of a story - Caledonite worked with his hands, but had maybe started doing it recently. All of it made him more curious.
He tried to pay as much attention as possible to Caledonite's words, but he found himself getting tired - and Cale's soft, gentle tone was only contributing. "That does sound...convenient," he acknowledged, trying to force his eyes to stay open. He held onto the name, though - Kerberos. "If I ever...met him, I would want to know. To be wary," he said.
That Caledonite trusted him drew a smile to the Page's face. "I'm glad - I promise, I don't mean you any harm. I want to help you." He would say it as many times as he had to until Caledonite believed it. Because he needed Caledonite to believe it.
He found his eyes starting to close, which was strange - was simply being powered up draining? He was sure Eden would have said something, if so...but it made it harder and harder to focus on Caledonite's words.
(He couldn't not focus on the feel of Rannoch's chest under his fingers - he could feel musculature there, and it made him curious about the rest.)
"Your...starseed?" He asked, and he blinked, and shook his head. "I'm sorry, I'm just...finding myself very tired."

"Stay away from him Ranny. Don't go trying to find him. He's stronger then you are. The senshi have magic at their basic stage. All we have are weapons, most of which can't do anything."
"I know you don't. You and Eden both, and I believe you.. You are helping, Ranny, you are."
Caledonite cursed mentally. It looks like he had drained the page just a little too much. Rannoch was beginning to sway on his feet, anymore and Caledonite feared he might pass out. It wouldn't work if Rannoch was unconscious. "Are you alright?" He asked, reaching for the page's arm. "Do you wanna sit down?? Come here.." He pulled the page over to the curb and sat him down.
"A starseed... It's kinda like your core almost. They look like this." He said, pointing at his belt. "These are fake mind you. Everyone's got one. They are very delicate, very fragile. Some shine bright, with light colors. Others seem to have darker colors, regardless of what side you're on. They are... very beautiful to look at, from what I've been told. There are downsides to them of course."
"Rannoch... What's your name? I can call someone to help you if you want."

Rannoch nodded, agreeing to stay away from Kerberos, and let Caledonite guide him to sit down.
"I'm fine, really, just...sleepy. I was up late last night, and then in early for school..." He laughed, a little. "Maybe I shouldn't have come out, but I couldn't resist." He curled into Caledonite's side, resting his head on the Lieutenant's shoulder, nodding along with his explanation of starseeds.
"So...she basically...put Chaos in your soul? That's. Frightening." He said, and he reached over and twisted part of Caledonite's hair around a finger.
"Carmine," he said, without really thinking. "My name is Carmine. But I'm okay, really, just...sleepy."

"What couldn't you resist Ranny? Where you curious about the magic? What you were??" He said, letting the page curl against him. The Lieutenant slipped one hand into the pages, keeping an anchor on him, as the other disappeared out of sight.
"It's a very pretty name.. I haven't heard that one before." Cale ran his fingers gently over Rannoch's knuckles. "Why don't you close your eyes for a little bit Mine... Just don't fall asleep okay? Falling asleep could be bad for you. I'll stay here, okay?" He gave Rannoch's hand a small squeeze. "Though... you might want to take your glasses off if you're going to do that. I can't imagine that's comfortable.
Cale waited till the page closed his eyes before pulling his hand back into view, his communication crystal in tow. "I have a Page here that I would like one of the higher ups here to talk to? If someone could send one of them my way, I would appreciate it." He spoke into it before dismissing the object.

There was no response from the crystal; Laurelite rarely replied before arriving. It was unnecessary, she thought, and a waste of time to assure that she had gotten the message if the intent was for her to drop in as soon as possible. Instead, she let Cale bask in the silence and then, with a burst of power appeared before him. She seemed more collected now than she had been in recent summons, but it might have had something to do with the smudged ink on her hand that indicated she had just come from desk work. She seemed to welcome the open night air (and why shouldn't she? Her office might have been lovely, but it was so stuff.) "Caledonite," she greeted pleasantly. "You’ve someone requesting a conversation? I do hope it's interesting. I've been going through files all night and I admit, I've only got crystals on my mind. With whom and of what am I to be discussing?"
