((Backlogged for September 13 sweatdrop ))

Quinn had to think that the party was a success since there were dozens of people milling about, playing in the pool, chatting in the hot tub, and just chilling. With around a week of planning it turned out pretty good if he did say so himself; mostly because of his folks. They were good enough to let him host this surprise party at their house and even the staff pitched in to get everything ready. The pool room had been decked out in multicolored streamers and balloons, banners hung against the walls and party theme decals were stuck on the giant windows providing the view into the expansive back yard of the house. No other indoor pool would have such a view... a large expanse of grass interspersed with flower beds and trees and a deck to match. Even with the season turning most of the leaves were green and only the slight n** in the air proved it was september. Not that anyone cared about the weather in the warm steamy room; between the sun, the pool, the hot tub, and the countless bodies Quinn was even tempted to open the french doors leading to the deck to help cool the place down.

"Here." Quinn glanced down at the cup full of punch that was offered by his father. Like his son the sandy haired man was dressed in pool shorts, a tshirt, and flipflops... all damp which meant he had to have gotten out of the water a little while ago. Quinn smiled and took the disposable cup with a murmured thanks but he nearly dropped it with his dad's next comment.

"She looks almost as good as your mother in that outfit." The subtle nod in the direction of Delilah left Quinn with no questions about who his father was talking about.

"For God's sake dad! Seriously?" Quinn choked out. Both horrified and slightly proud that his father just compared his girlfriend to his mother via hotness. It was true that his mom had, as they say, 'aged very well' it was still kind of disturbing that his dad made that comment... and about his girlfriend as well.

"Just saying," the older man hid his smirk behind his glass as he surveyed the party around him. With a sigh he lowered his glass and eyed his son again. "So you ask her yet? You might want to get a move on if you haven't. You don't actually have all day you know, not if she will have the time she needs."

"How much time would she need? Its not like its difficult to toss a few things into a suitcase and head out." Quinn studied the cream colored tile down at his feet. He still had a small part of him that wondered if his birthday present to Delilah was a good idea... something warned him that he might not get the reaction he was hoping for.

"You would be surprised son, you would be surprised." This time Quinn's dad didn't bother to hide his smile and with a friendly pat on Quinn's back the older man headed off in the direction of the other, older adults. He liked Delilah and he hoped his clueless son didn't piss her off because if the feisty young lady was anything like Quinn's mother then his son was going to have a hell of time.... and he, Quinn's father, was going to be laughing his a** off the entire time.

To say Delilah had been caught of guard when she had shown up might have been the understatement of the month. Ever since she and Quinn had begun dating, he had been surprising with items no normal boyfriend would ever hope or dream of affording. And here she was getting them without the bat of an eyelash.

Every girl's dream right?

As Delilah chuckled with a few of her friends from the higher up in society, if one could trust them that much, she couldn't help but glance over at Quinn and smile. Her black hair was pulled up into a bun so as it dripped, it wouldn't go down her back. She was only wearing her bikini top and a white wrap to cover the bottoms as she mingled with the other guest. Of course she had been thrown in the pool....only befitting of the birthday girl.

One of the girls waved a hand in front of her face and Delilah jumped. With a soft smile, she excused herself and walked towards Quinn, shaking her head as she did so. "You sneaky little rat." The teen laughed as she went up on her toes to kiss his cheek. "You are always full of surprises. This completely tops my last two birthdays. Blows them out of the water even. Heck, even my dad looks like he is having fun." Delilah pointed towards where her father, Richard stood laughing with a group of other social elite. Oh he had been THRILLED when Delilah told him who she was dating.

It was her mother that kept the watchful eye on the birthday girl and her partner.

Quinn had chatted with a few people who were passing by but soon found himself alone again as the party flowed around him. His thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of the birthday girl herself. Quinn chuckled as she gave him a quick kiss, he was tempted to kiss her back but he was quite aware of the various eyes on them. "I might be a rat but I'm your rat." He waggled his eyebrows at her and tried to wiggle his nose in a rodent like fashion but failed miserably. "Squeak, squeak dear."

His sassy smile softened as Delilah continued. "I really am glad your having fun." Quinn followed her pointing finger and couldn't help but snicker at the view he was presented with. A group of snobs talking and rubbing elbows while his dad stood there looking bored out of his mind. "How much you want to bet my dad will end up pushing one of those guys in the pool?" Quinn asked absentmindedly as he finished up his drink. Such a move wasn't actually impossible for Arthur since Quinn's sense of humor came from the older male.

Snickering at the idea of one of the starched shirts ending up in the pool Quinn focused back on Delilah. "Actually those guys were my folk's ideas. Something about keeping your folks entertained while you spend your time with your friends." He nodded towards the younger crowd hanging near the pool, a slight confused look crossed his face. "Granted not sure who most of those people are... or who invited them." He winced. "Mei and Mercy really helped me out with getting the idea and who to invite. And I really owe my folks for letting me hijack the pool room, even the staff helped with the decorations thought I was told I get clean up duty." He chuckled and deliberately stepped away to throw away his empty cup before returning.

"Hey you think I can steal you for a little bit without your mom skinning me?" He had seen the sharp eye Delilah's mom was keeping on them but he really wanted to surprise the birthday girl with her present without everyone around.

His attempt to act like a rat, or maybe it was more of a mouse, got her laughing. Oh she was in high spirits for the first time in a long time. "Keep that up and you don't get any cheese."

But as she turned back to look where Quinn was pointing, her soft smile grew into a grin. "My guess is the one in the orange shorts. He's been avoiding the pool all day and I think he has tried to make it so your father doesn't even lift a finger." Looking back over, she added "Clearly trying WAY to hard. If your father doesn't get him in the pool, I will be disappointed." Delilah answered it with a playful pout.

She wasn't at all surprised by his or his father's actions. Her dad was a great accountant by all means but these were people anyone in his position could only dream of meeting. And from the looks of it, a few were getting invited out for a game of golf or two. It made Delilah happy.

But at his second question, her eyes quickly slid over towards her mother's ever watching gaze. "What do you think? She has been looking into a new rug for the living room." Chuckling, she waved at her mother, signalling she had been caught staring. "But I'm sure a walk or something wouldn't hurt. Especially if you have cameras around this place. As long as she knows you aren't going to try anything funny....rat."

Quinn chuckled and couldn't help but counter, "but I don't like cheese. I much prefer... honey." He paused suggestively before finishing his sentence with a saucy wink. He knew it would get a rise out of her and just loved her laugh so anything to make her smile was worth it. With the smile still on his face he contemplated the person Delilah had pointed out before shaking his head.

"Nah, that brown nosier would jump in the pool voluntarily if my father asked it. Hell if he pushed him Orange there would probably thank him for the privilege." He contemplated it for a few more moments before admitting, "Now my mom on the other hand might 'accidentally' bump into him sending Orange into the pool." He watched as the guy in the orange shorts broke off his conversation with his dad only to fawn over his mother... "Never mind. Dad will do it if only to get him away from mom." He glanced at Delilah and smirked, "Personally I would just have decked him if we were in my folks place but then again dad is so much more tactful then I."

Delilah's comment about a rug left him standing there puzzled, "A new rug? What was wrong with the old one?" Quinn didn't get it but he did understand the agreement to the walk. "Cameras and plenty of staff." He gave a little mousy squeak before pulling her out of the pool room into the hallway. He caught his dad raising his glass in their direction, Quinn couldn't help but toss him a covert bird. No way would Delilah be pissed over her present... he hoped. "Not taking you far anyway, just away from everyone looking over your shoulder," He said as he pulled her to a stop in front of a rather vivid seascape. "Close your eyes." Quinn needed to fish the paperwork from behind the painting but didn't want to ruin the surprise so he waited for her to close those bright cherry red eyes.
