Shaun had always been an explorer by nature, and this did not change despite being a consciousness wrapped in vines. Here he was in a bizzare place, in a bizzare situation, where he could neither misstep nor succeed. It was inevitable that he would be assimilated, returned to the vines, and that made anything he did suddenly consequence-less...
It was pretty great. Of course, for Shaun, that meant he could poke his nose into anything he wanted, into anywhere he wanted, and not have to worry about dying – not anymore. What was coming was very different than death, and carried a very different weight of dread and fear.
“Hey, Boss!” he called, “Look at this!” Shaun had never seen so much greenery in his admittedly short life. He slipped into the room, stunned by the sheer amount of nature and green stuff. Infected roamed around, but Shaun did not fear them – it was so nice not to be afraid anymore, and he realized just how scared he had been his whole life – fear of being caught, of being hit, of being attacked, of being hurt, of failing...
”I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...” whimpered one of them. Shaun poked them with a tendril. “Hey, are you okay?” they did not respond, only rocked back and forth, back and forth, without even seeming to acknowledge his presence. “Obviously not...” He poked them again, “Hey, who are you?” What are you was another good question – these people had grey coats too, like the echoes in the cage... but they were free. She did not respond to his question, so Shaun took a look at her nametag. “Hmm... Bekki Shae.” he read, and then he shrugged and left her be – she wasn't someone he knew. She wasn't one of them.
He looked out over the garden again. “This is kinda crazy.” he said, impressed.

The Boss looked around as they made their way into a garden of sorts.
"Wow..." he uttered, staring up at the tree sitting at the center. He eyed all of the infected gardeners, watching them as they mindlessly cared for the place. They all had the same gray coats he saw from the cage room.
"More of those scientists, whoever they were," he mumbled somberly. Magnus glanced over at the girl Shaun stood by.
"Can't say that name rings a bell with me either. Poor girl, though. Probably didn't expect things to go like this."

“Who would?” said Shaun, turning his attention to the tree. Wow, it was a big tree. A very big tree. Was it going to be a part of them too, Shaun wondered? What was it like to be a tree?
Not paying attention, he was nearly bowled over. “Whoa!” he exclaimed, the vines twisting out of the way and re-forming around his barely-definable shape. “What...?” and then he saw – oh. It was an infected. He watched as it pulled itself upright, fixing the position of its lolling head and re-balancing its torso on the clumps of vines that served as its feet.
Shaun would have been disgusted. He would have thrown up, maybe, or at least been set to shaking from the horrible gruesomeness of the man missing half of himself. But Shaun was no longer entirely human, and he found he merely pitied the poor half-scientist... poor b*****d. Who was this one?
“Dave Adolph.” he read. Kindly, he helped to steady 'him' with his tendrils, though really there was nothing much of anything left of the man that the scientist (or whatever) to be kind to... “Huh. Wonder what he's trying to hold... something for that?” He gestured at the tree, “Maybe? Or maybe he's grabbing something? Like a lever?” Shaun studied the infected meditatively as it shambled away. “Guess we won't know...”

Magnus watched the half-scientist-half-vine infected with curiosity. As with Shaun, he wasn't really disturbed by the sight. It was just how the way things were now.
"Looks like he hasn't really adapted to moving with his new... legs. I wonder what he was holding before. Poor sod doesn't seem to realize he isn't actually... doing anything right now."

“Yeah...” It was really kind of sad. “He's not like us, I guess.” Like us. What an odd thing to say... Shaun watched the scientist's remains shamble off, replaying whatever scene it was trying to do. “You know, when I said you were handling this well, I really, uh, meant it.” said Shaun, 'glancing' aside at the boss, “You just seem... okay. It's actually pretty comforting, Boss.”

"No sense in fighting it. The way we are... it's just how it is now. We are Creation."
The Boss's attention was grabbed by something nearby making some clicky noises. He turned to see an infected who no longer had a face. A human face, at least. It took him a moment, but he was able to figure out what the figure was saying.
"The sacrifice was too great..." he repeated out loud, "Hm. Well. I can't say I disagree there."

“Well, yeah.” Shaun twined his vines around each other. So... the boss was resigned. Was that better or worse than how he himself was taking this? Shaun was happy, but it was hard to say – too subjective for the young thief.
Also, he couldn't agree more. The Infection was bad news, worse news for the people who had died horrible, violent deaths. The casino, the bandits... it was all so sad. Such a waste.
“Well, I mean.” Shaun started, realizing something, “You ended up sacrificing a lot, Boss... You had a job, a life, a home to go back to. I mean, I'm guessing you did.” Shaun talked rapidly, vines gesturing as the thought evolved. “You lost more than I did...” he thought about that for a moment, “Wow. Sorry, Boss...”

"Heh. You have nothing to apologize for, kid. It's not like you caused this in any way."
The Boss motioned towards the various infected scientists in the garden.
"No. That one's on them. Pretty sure they're sorry enough as is."

“Well, I meant more 'sorry for putting my,'" he hesitated "'vine... tendril?'" Right, he didn't have feet right now... "'in my mouth and reminding you of not so good things', but I see your point...” said Shaun, looking out at the garden's attendants. Poor bastards - they were already gone, already a part of Creation. If they had caused it, Shaun wondered if they were the first to join it. He wondered how that had been - no waiting, no hoping for a new life, no wondering about anything... Shaun was pretty happy he had had all those chances. He'd liked the hope and the survival (not the terrifying work involved but that had been necessary, so he'd done it), and now he liked the chance to put everything together, as himself, before he was assimilated. It was a really great chance...
