Touching the doorknob brought back a lot of memories that Rufus absolutely did not want. He tried to push them out of his mind as he pushed the door open, but when he walked in, it wasn't hard to forget. The vines, they were willing to help him forget everything. Including himself.
He didn't mind. There wasn't much left to fight for.
When he could think like himself again, he realized he'd lost something very important - the most important thing he could think of. He'd lost his body, and that was not okay with him. He reached to search for it, and something slithered where his hand should have been, creating the hand itself out of - plants, it looked like. He did the same with his other hand, and realized his body was reforming from something else. It would do for now, but he was desperate for his real body back. He searched through the mess of tangles and vines until he saw a face - or at least, part of a face. It was purple, and deformed in it's lack of features, and it looked more like it belonged in the plants than he did.
He remembered her.
Rufus did not have much in the way of heroic sensibilities, but there were some things even he knew had to be stopped. That thing tried to kill everyone - and it was a wonder she hadn't killed him. She'd certainly tried! She was something that did not deserve to live, and there was only one way he could be certain that she didn't.
He pushed the vines away, and they listened. He picked up the body, and carried it to the stairs. From there, he could hear voices - shadows - helpful people who would have saved her, and taken her home. She did not deserve a home - she deserved to be a pancake.
He pulled her away from the stairs, and found what looked like a window. Without a lot of care, he shoved her body through it, despite how the strain was making his own body grow thinner, and lose it's shape. He shoved her through and checked to make sure no one was coming for her, before returning to the center of the vines.
It might have been the last thing he'd do, as a person. He was glad it was a good thing.
