Snakes were not meant to have arms, it was simply not a thing that should have existed, and apparently, Mox's humanoid form accounted for that by giving her lanky, spindly things that lacked prehensile flexibility or gripping power. She heaved and huffed and managed to move the unconscious woman a few inches, scraping her along the dusty ground.
"I snever--*wheeze*--thought you would be--*wheeze*--ssssso heavy, human." Mox's tiny nostrils were not meant for this heavy breathing, and it was far too cold to be this active. Peering down at her human, she noticed that the unconscious woman wore a number of garments too great for the number of appendages she had, and without a second thought plucked one from the ground, fitting herself with the least ratty of sweaters.
"That'sssss better," Mox nodded, rubbing at her strange hands. The portal had to be around here somewhere...

There it was!
The portal glowed dimly in the fog, now that Mox had lain eyes on it, and with newfound resolve she began to drag her human towards their escape, thinking little of the bumps and scrapes along the way. If the human became scuffed, they could always shed their skin and feel better! Wouldn't they want to take the few days to rest and recover anyways? Really, they should be thanking Mox, the snake-girl thought to herself as she continued pulling. Mox was helping them exfoliate as well as escape the apocalypse! That was more than a few favors, certainly. She would have to suggest that the rubbery one bring eggs. Eggs were her favorite.
Mox felt the briefest surge of victory at reaching the portal, only to lose it all in a fit of frustration as she realized that the lip of the door had somehow been placed a few inches off the ground. It would not be enough to drag the human, now she had to lift the thing, which was no small task. Pouting, she bent down to get a better hold of the creature's torso, looking down at the ground for a way to get leverage. She exhaled softly, then pushed as hard as she could with her legs, as if she were trying to strike, and with a mighty heave she managed to toss the human through the portal, herself included.
What they found was not safety.
Mox and her human hit the ground hard, and she hissed in agitation at not being able to land on her sturdy scutes. But her annoyance sputtered and died as she began to survey her surroundings, choosing instead to curl her limbs inward in as close a ball as she could manage. Her eyes went up, up, up, to a vine-covered tower with the top missing, but it hurt so much just to try and see what smoldered in the remains--
Thud. Thud. Thud.
Mox lay lower to her human and the ground, eyes wide as she whirled her head around to face the oncoming...thing. Nothing she'd ever seen before had been that huge, and certainly nothing she'd seen had been so powerful and yet not made of Fear. It wore the same vines as the tower, and even though she stood perfectly still and coiled, she somehow felt it's presence focus on her, touching her mind with all the gentle grace of a sledgehammer.
We will consume you and your Fear will be ours.
The writhing vines shuddered as they drew near, coming further into focus even as Mox continued to shrink away. She wished she couldn't have seen what they were--not one body, but many, screaming for release, for themselves back from the massive flanks of the viney-horse creature. They reached for her, as if her puny arms could pull them free, as if she could undo whatever this horror was. She could not pull them free--she could barely drag the human, and that was not to freedom, not with these weak arms. Her mind began to dull as tendrils brushed against her scales, her face, and the pain began to block out everything, her memories, her life, her name--
Run.
Mox was unsure of what exactly snapped her free of the snare, but in her kickback panic she jerked backwards, dragging her human in tow. She had been prey before--there was no time to look back, no time to think, only time to run. She could consider her future and her options once she got away.

Mox did not think to try for one of the strange human cars as a method of escape. With her legs abandoned and the scutes of her natural form beneath her, she could just about fly, even on this dusty road. She held the human gingerly in her mouth, her fear of impending destruction more powerful than her gag reflex in response to the smell. She had to keep moving, or the beast would be even closer--
She felt a portal flare into existence some distance away, but not before she felt clawed hands raking down her tail as the giant horse plodded into range. She would have hissed in pain, had she not been so mindful of her charge. Truly, Mox was the best caretaker this human could have hoped for.

How could something so large be so fast? Mox darted in and out of its lumbering limbs, as sprightly as she'd been as a hatchling, but there was no avoiding the vines that sprouted all around her, changing her path to a winding thorn-covered path. She raked her belly across stones and bones and thorns, but the portal felt just a little bit closer. She could hold out. She would have to hold out.

The path was getting thinner, the vines were getting thicker. Mox did her best to keep moving, weaving through as if she were a great vine herself. But the former creatures of Halloween Town were not fooled, and they cried out in agony as they clawed at her, begged her to save them or join them.
Mox would do neither, not when the portal was so close.

Mox could practically see the portal in the distance, dust-obscured but faintly glowing. However, there was a growing problem in the nestled care package of sweaters currently bumming a ride in her mouth--the human was somehow awake, and even worse, it was jabbing one of its inflexible appendages against the roof of her tongue. Mox hissed and dropped the thing, but it was not enough to leave the ungrateful hatchling behind. No, Mox was committed to this cause, by stones, and she would see it through if she had to hug the human all the way to the portal herself. The creature writhed and flailed, but Mox was faster, a spring with a brain that coiled around her catch with practiced ease.
"Sssssleeep now, hatchling," Mox instructed with a gentle squeeze of her coils, the way a proper hug should be administered. But even as she felt her hold secured she slipped under the human's persistent wiggling, and she hissed as she found herself mostly coiled around...herself. Her clever tail found the warmblood and she began to wrap herself around a second time, determined to keep hold of her prize, but something felt...wrong. Like a key part of her plan had suddenly and inconveniently dissipated.
Her eyes darted up and she let out a groan. The portal. The portal was gone. The human fell limp just in time for Mox to reshape into her humanoid form, a tangle of limbs stuck under a stocky pile of sweaters.
The portal was gone. It was just...gone.
What was she going to do?
