Class Activity
Arcane Archetypes
"Divination is derived from Arcane magics. Arcane energies allow us to see what is unseen, ward for protection, bind objects or people, create runes, and even create new objects. Our purposes with Arcane energies vary, but it is the founding source of most, if not all, Divination magics."
Rules Fill out the form below completely - be sure to include the prompt! Once you have posted your reply you may consider this class "complete" This class may grant you perks in the Battle Arena! Do not quote nepsah when you post!
Username: Nightmare/Daydream: Prompt:
Kochab insists that meditation is the key to sensing the arcane energy that fills the world. Without the ability to clear one's mind, opening it to the many possibilities that Divination can bring is impossible. Kochab has assigned everyone a journaling assignment in which everyone must write down their experience with mastering the art of meditation. Your student must detail their progress throughout the week.
Write a 250 word minimum response from the perspective of your student's experience with the assignment.
NOTE: Roll 1 d100, if you roll 40 or above, you may add a +5 Buff to your student's Arcane Archetype spell types! - You do not have to do this portion of the assignment if you do not want to.
Divination was probably the only non-scientific interest Starlet had... and he was glad that the class opened up before he graduated, he'd been hoping to perhaps double major in astronomy and divination when he moved on to university. The instructor seemed nice, straight to the point... he supposed introductions made sense but he really wasn't feeling that great about it...
After listening to the first student recite their introduction, he sighed and then started his own since he was next. "My name is Starlet. I am interested in the practical uses of astrological divination in combination with astronomy, since the two are related in terms of subject matter but not particularly in substance. I do not have any particular interest in other branches of divination but I am interested in learning anyhow." He nodded, satisfied with his intro, and then turned to listen to the next student...

Shuffling into the classroom, he grabbed the first seat open and slid into the chair, setting his coffee down on the tabletop before pulling out a clean notebook and pen. Drav wasn't sure if drinks were allowed in the classroom, some teachers were picky like that, but if he had to ditch the cheap cup it wasn't the end of the world.
Still, he grabbed it and took as big a gulp as the hot liquid would allow while eyeing the board and getting his first real look at the teacher. He had to swallow quickly though as Kochab pointed his way and asked him to start off the rounds. Crap. He set his cup down after looking quizzically at the teacher to confirm that he was to start now.
"Hey, I'm Draven. Honestly I took this class out of random curiosity and just kinda wanted to learn more. I guess what made me decide to take it was thumomancy, as it sounded pretty cool. Kind of like a deeper sense of yourself and understanding of the world around you.
Though many of them sound interesting to me in general. I guess scrying as well? Isn't that like, the standard form of Divination though? Looking for answers in something other than yourself? But still, to look into a bowl of water or a gemstone and see something other than the ordinary sounds amazing."
Different ways of looking for answers, or some guidance. A new way to ask the question 'why', and maybe finally getting a response. Perhaps a way of feeling closer to the Nine, to feel... important in a way. Or at least not so lost.
All stuff there was no way in hell he was about to say out loud in front of other people, though. He rambled plenty as it was, and really didn't feel like opening up to a room full of strangers. Leaning back, he looked to the next student and waited for them to go, to put some time and distance after his vocal blunder.

Yue loved anything magic related and using different objects to tell the future had always seemed to interest her. If she hadn’t loved Ancient cultures and history so much then she would have totally tried for something else related to the Divination field. In fact there were two classes she really wanted to take before the end of her senior year. It didn’t look like the first one was going to open but the nine had seemingly smiled at her and Professor Kochab had opened up this class.
It also didn’t help that Draven was also in the class although she hadn’t known about it until she entered the classroom. She grabbed the seat next to him and pulled out her notepad. While it was nice to have friends in the class, it was also class time and she took studying seriously. Of course the Teacher did the standard meet and greet which was just fine with her.
“Hello everyone, I’m Yue. I’ve always had an interest in the future and the paths one can take in order to try to grab a glimpse at it. I would have to say the three branches that most interest me are: Chartomancy especially the subset Taromancy, Radiesthesia, and..” It was hear she looked down at her clothing and markings. “Ironically the last branch would be Astronomy as well.”
Just introduce herself and talk a little about why she was interested in Divination? Oh, Coralie was so there! Fidgeting a little as she waited for her turn, the imp girl listened closely to the names of those around her and why they were here.
And then, it was her turn. Smiling brightly, she gave a little wave as her tail curled up to briefly hide her face as she composed herself.
"My name's Coralie. I'm here because I plan to be a trader someday and well, divination seems like a good, solid skill to possess, you know? Being able to sort of predict trends and possible pitfalls could keep a trader from making a costly mistake. I'm most interested in hydromancy and rune casting since both seem like they'd be very portable and unobtrusive. Probably safer too since I tend to be a little accident prone."
-----------------------------------
For her part, Ashlynn was content to sit by Coralie and quietly absorb the words of those around her. Though she couldn't stop the tiny snort of amusement when Coralie mentioned being accident prone. Yes, she thought, let's please not try to teach her pyromancy. I like my girlfriend to not be on the crispy side. Oh, it was her turn now. Well then.
"Name's Ashlynn, though you're welcome to call me Ash if you prefer. I'm afraid that my interest in Divination isn't quite as deep as the rest of you. I'm here more because I'm curious and would enjoy learning something new."
Puffing out her cheeks a little as she thought about the various branches she'd skimmed over, she continued "I suppose out of all the branches I looked through, the ones that interest me most are Botomancy and runes. Runes because they're portable and don't look too difficult to learn and botomancy because the idea of reading the future in the fire and smoke of a burning branch sounds interesting."

Ikki stood up to introduce himself to his teacher and other classmates and he smiled rather shyly, looking down for a moment in embarrassment before back up again. "Hi, I'm Ikki... I'm interested in Divination because it'd be really cool to know the future or at least learn a possible outcome to something... I'm uh... Particularly interested in scrying because I like crystals and learning to divine using them seems fun... I'm also interested in lithomancy because I find the method of it fascinating. It just seems really cool and fun!"
Oh wow, he sounded like a dork... He hoped his answer was good enough. With a nervous sigh, Ikki settled back in his chair.

Joseth entered the divination class completely at ease, the aura of the room a pleasingly soft color. He smiled warmly at the others in the room before making his way to his seat and reading the assignment on the board. A star chart? He never made one before, but he thought today would be the right time to start. He followed the instructions in the book and read the inscriptions next to the different symbols, jotting down notes and scribbling comments as he went along. He worked passionately, and even though his chart wasn't completely true to him, he was fairly happy with his work overall. He stood to meet the teacher with his finished chart and notes, passing her the former and preparing to read the latter with a polite clearing of his throat. "From what I found in the book, my rising sign isn't very accurate to who I am, saying that I'm much more active and social than I consider myself to be, but my Sun sign accurately portrays me as 'extremely objective, with good powers of observation', which I find rings very true. Same with my Venus, Mars, and Saturn signs. All in all, this was a very insightful exercise for me. Thank you for introducing it to me." And with that, the ruby-eyed senior left her his notes and returned to his seat.
Rising Sign is in 20 Degrees Gemini Extremely active by nature, you like to get around, meet people and do different things. Very restless, you just can't seem to stay put. You need to be involved in several projects at once in order to keep your mind stimulated. You like to read books and to write letters and to talk -- constantly. Seemingly ageless, you will always appear to be much younger than you really are. Very adaptable and inquisitive, you are always open to new ideas and experiences. A "jack-of-all-trades", you are lively and versatile. Because of the high nervous tension that you always seem to have, athletic activity would be a good way for you to burn off energy. But be careful of a tendency to experience things only superficially -- try to dig in and absorb things at a deeper level.
sun sign
Sun is in 01 Degrees Aquarius. You get bored with the status quo and are generally open to new things and ideas. An individualist and a free spirit, your friends are quite important to you as long as they do not try to tie you down by making too many emotional demands on you. Your thoughts are offbeat and you're a bit eccentric, but not always very changeable. As a matter of fact, you can be quite stubborn at times. Very fair-minded when dealing with large groups or broad issues, you are not always emotionally sensitive to the needs of individuals.Extremely objective, with good powers of observation, you would be qualified to study technical and complicated subjects, like science, computers or maybe even astrology.
venus sign
Venus is in 15 Degrees Capricorn. You tend to keep your feelings under control -- emotions are only released in serious or important situations. You are distrustful of others whose behavior could be judged excessive or immoderate. As such, you prefer to relate only to those who are older than you or to those whose position is such that respect and duty are more important for both of you than passion or emotional response. Be careful, however, of relationships that are merely based on practicality or utility or you will ultimately be lonely.
mars sign
Mars is in 19 Degrees Libra. You are very aware of the need to cooperate with others in order to further any effort. You are usually willing to compromise with others, although you can be quite competitive in a friendly way. Very fair- minded and impartial, you have the ability to sense injustice and the desire to take corrective actions to make proper compensations. You see both sides of issues and questions, but you tend to be undecided or wavering when forced to make choices that might make you vulnerable or unpopular.
saturn sign
Saturn is in 21 Degrees Scorpio. You tend to release emotional energies only very reluctantly. This is partly due to your fear of what horrible calamity might occur should they be released -- your emotions are terribly complicated and intense.Try not to repress these energies entirely, however, or you will succumb to negative and destructive forms of compulsive behavior. Give yourself the freedom to look awkward or silly once in a while. The relief you feel will be quite therapeutic and the embarrassment (whether it is real or imagined) will pass quickly.

Xochi perked at the idea of the stars. That was something tangible. Physical. She could measure and see those and their patterns were set nearly always in stone. She liked that there was something involving divination and the natural world, though what the book said about the angles didn't make much sense. How did they come up with this?
However... A good portion rung true an it made Xochi slightyl uncomfortable. A large portion discussed that Xochi was quiet and calm, not one to jump to conclusions, and to have deep feelings that she did not show well. She was also focused on intelligence and learning. "This is... Eeriely accurate. All save for perhaps my Neptune and Pluto fit me. Even then, the Pluto could fit me, but I have little interest in foreign religions... And the Neptune is more about my peers than myself, so it is difficult to say if I am correct." Maybe there was something to divination after all?
Aloe looked over her star chart, she liked the idea of divination helping her to help her plants. She started reading her star chart, yeah she was kinda shy and not very self-assured though Aloe really wished she was then maybe the chimeras wouldn't treat her like a servant or someone lesser. Aloe shook her head Aloe often left her dorm wearing two different shoes and didn't care what others thought about it. She nodded when she read the part about work ethic, yes Aloe was extremely dedicated to her gardening. Aloe smiled she did consider herself fun loving and energetic. She shook her head not seeing much else that applied to who she was, but it was interesting to read the things that did apply to her, and if the position of the moon or planets could help her plants Aloe would be happy.

Vanna wasn’t sure what to expect with Divination class. His experience with numerology had been a bit of a miss. However he wasn’t lying when he said that the more magical aspects of the class where interesting to him. So here he was sitting there in class and looking over a star chart… this experience was turning out to be a lot different than the numerology on and he barely kept a hiss from escaping him. This was a bit more scarily accurate.
It talked about him being quiet and reserved on top of being rather secret and that it was hard to draw him out. It then went into him having a stubborn side to him fighting to get what he believed in and that he liked living life on the edge. Even the part about striking back with bitter sarcasm was accurate. As he continued reading a small smile escaped him. Okay so he wasn’t shy and he definitely wasn’t easy to hurt. He also wouldn’t say that he despised ugliness in a physical way. Sure he did detest people that were ugly at heart but then who didn’t…. and now the chart was going into fine clothing and pleasant surroundings. Ah well now it was being scary again. All in all it was scarily accurate. Vanna wasn’t quite sure what to feel. He did have a lot of fun with it though.
