Jett had a lot on his plate, bouncing between work and the Court and a very pregnant woman back home, but he hadn't forgotten his plans with Millicent. It had taken a short while for their schedules to line up, but they'd set a date up to get together. He wasn't sure what lie she'd told her mother (because he was certain he would have gotten a very angry phone call if she had been told this was a fighting lesson) but he wasn't going to ask.

Jett had his bag thrown haphazardly next to him as he waited on a bench near the entrance to a local gym. It wasn't his gym, but it was out of the way and they were doing a promotional weekend, so it was a good place to start. And if she hit it off here, maybe he'd buy her a membership to a real gym. If she was taking all this seriously, anyway.

Teenage girls were strange and flaky so Jett wanted to make sure this wasn't just a weird phase that she was going to blow out of. While he waited, he played on his phone—checked his stocks, texted Raven. Days off seemed so foreign to him, so he couldn't find it to just stay still. Plus, truth be told—he was excited about this. He hadn't gotten to go boxing in ages.

For once, Millie hadn’t lied to her mom. She told her that Jett was going to be giving her fighting lessons, and surprisingly, Bellatrix had agreed. She had looked terribly worried, but she agreed, and so the teenager was dropped off at the gym that Jett had told her to come to. She was all ready to go, her long raspberry colored hair pulled back into a high ponytail. Oh she was so ready for this. She wanted to get as strong as possible out here in the real world…the sooner she did, the sooner she could get back to breaking noses as Lenka.

The tall, lanky teen looked around the gym, frowning just slightly as she looked for the person who was arguably her best friend and mentor, and upon seeing him gave the slightest smile.

Boy. Gone were the days of happy little Millie trying to buy antique pigs for herself…it was all angsty teenage Millie now…but she still loved Jett.

That would never change. Jett was clearly the best person ever.

“Hey. I’m here. You ready to start this nonsense? I’m totally ready.”

"Damn," Jett huffed, looking at Millie and her full height. "Are you still growing? I'm going to have to start eating my vegetables again at this rate."

He tucked his phone away and flashed a grin before he forced himself up off the bench. "I miss that smile, you know. After we work on this, we have to work on that."

It was in his nature to want to ruffle her hair, but he didn't know how to deal with teenagers and their raging angst, so he figured he could settle for a clap on the shoulder instead. "—You do your stretching before you got here? Everything I told you to do? —Because otherwise, I'm gonna make you go through the routine warm-ups. I don't want you getting hurt. Your mom would kill me."

He rubbed the back of his neck and shook his head. "My mom would kill me."

The teen smirked, very pleased that someone was at least acknowledging that she wasn’t three feet tall. Because, she really wasn’t. “I think you will have to start eating your veggies again, Jett. I’m nearly as tall as you now. That’s crazy, isn’t it?”

Her brown eyes fell to the hand on her shoulder and she looked up at Jett with a rather confused expression. “Really? A shoulder clap? I’ve known you for years, you can’t even get a hug in there? Jerkface.” Did he think she was so different that she wouldn’t even want a hug? Had she really changed that much?

For a moment, Millie was sad…and then a little angry. She was so tired of worrying and being angry and…and why couldn’t she just be adorable and happy again, deserving of hugs and love from Jett and her mom and all of her friends.

“I did some stretches before I came here, yeah. I’m ready to start my training, I listen to the things you say, Jett. I always have.”

She couldn’t hide a laugh at the thought of both her mom and Jett’s mom going at him with brooms and…that was just such a funny thought. Even though the thought of Jett dying wasn’t a funny one.

Jett grinned at her laugh; it was good to see her in good spirits, even if the moment might have been fleeting. "Mill," he started, "I'd hug you when you were smaller, but you've got a few extra inches between us now. What with you being your age and me being mine, people might start some weird rumors, and I'd really like to not go to jail or have some marks on my record. But I'll tell you what. If it's so important to you," he wrapped an arm around her and gave her a tight squeeze.

And didn't let go.

The way he figured, if she was upset about not getting a hug, she must have been upset about missing all those hugs he'd skimped out on since now and the last time he saw her.

Perhaps he was doing it with the intent to be obnoxious, or perhaps he thought that hugging her might actually make her feel better.

So he kept holding on.

"—You sure you wanna do boxing? I mean, now that I think about this, this is pretty comfortable. Yeah, I could stay like this for the next hour or so instead," he teased.

The teen rolled her eyes, then let out a little noise of surprise when he actually hugged her. And for a moment, it felt really nice. Jett was her best friend and had just been there for her through so much of her life…and without him, she really wouldn’t know what to do…if she hadn’t found him, she didn’t know where she’d be, so for a moment, a long moment she just enjoyed the hug.

…And then he had to ruin it by being an a**. Why did boys ruin all of lifes tender and good moments by being asses?

“Oh shut your mouth you ********.” It was the only phrase that she could think of. Millie huffed loudly and wrenched herself away from the prolonged embrace that had turned into a mocking fest.

“Yeah. I’m ready to box. Just make sure I don’t break your nose. Any more smart remarks like that and I’ll be aiming for it, Jett. I promise you that.”

Jerk.

Jett pulled away and laughed, perpetually amused by the language she chose to use. His humor was almost short lived. "Sorry, Mill. I'm not good with emotions, you know that. I've been stressed, too. Probably doesn't help with the baby being so close. You should se Raven, she's a balloon. Beautiful, though. Baby's gonna be born soon, I'm excited."

He talked about her fondly, but there was something in his voice—something that he failed to hide. Which was unlike him, given his expertise in keeping any sign of weakness buried.

He might have been excited for Chloe, but whether or not he said it, he was scared.

Not of the day to day father things, or changing diapers.

But he hadn't had a very good role model, and it was in his blood.

He didn't want to be like that, but there was a deep, rooted fear that this was going to be some terrible cycle, and that he wasn't cut out for anything 'fatherly', and that's why his had left.

But Millie understood that. She had her own father issues. But look at her—she'd turned out okay, right?

Well, minus the whole angsty teenager thing, but a few years of this and she'd be better than ever.

And Jett knew what she could be. Who she was under all that uncertainty and anger. One day she'd break out of this shell, and she'd be amazing.

And so, quieter than before, he said, "…I hope she grows up like you."

That, he didn't ruin. After that, he was quiet for a second, and then just seemed embarrassed when he realized what he'd said. He shook his head and reached for the boxing tape he'd packed. "—All right, come on. Hold out your hands, I'm going to start by showing you how to wrap them so you don't hurt yourself. Wrapping your hands makes a world of difference—you can break the bones in your hands if you're not careful, so this minimizes damage. I have not been as careful as I should have been, and let me tell you—a busted hand is a pain, so you've already got the advantage of learning from my mistakes on that one."

Millie listened, grinning a little at the thought of the beautiful, slender Raven looking like a balloon. Kind of like that video of the animals looking like balloons…she bet Raven couldn’t even get a zebra at the watering hole if she looked like a balloon.

When the topic turned more serious…and Jett dropped the whole…wanting daughter to end up like Millie bomb, the teenager frowned just slightly and shrugged. There was nothing special about her, not really. Maybe before…when she had been happier, yeah. But now she was so…angry all the time. And besides, there was no way any daughter of Jett and Raven would ever end up a senshi…that was crazy. The poor kid was going to have the most normal parents that a kid could have…and that was good.

Sometimes normal was good.

There was such a disconnect when the topic changed yet again and Jett started rambling on about how this…stuff he had in his hands would help not break her hands while boxing and…

And it was just too much. “I don’t know, Jett. I think we hit too many things for me to really focus on boxing right now…next time. Next time teach me how to punch and break noses and faces and femurs…but right now…I’m honestly exhausted just from talking to you. So let’s do lunch and see a movie. Your treat, of course.”

Because that was his job, as her unofficial big brother…and that was that. “This kid is going to call me Aunt Millie, right? Because I won’t have it any other way.”

And she wouldn’t. That was that.

Jett paused with the tape, pursed his lips, looked at his bag and then shrugged. "…I could go for a bite. You pick the movie though, I have no idea what's even out." He tossed the tape back in and grabbed the bag, slinging it over a shoulder. It was strange, not looking down to see Millie, but there she was, tall and proud and demanding food and a movie.

That, at least, was like the Millie he was used to.

There was always time for nose and femur breaking later. Especially when it meant there was going to be a later.

"Of course you're going to be Aunt Millie. When she's born I'm gonna show her off to everyone. You and your mom especially. You'll have to come visit her and play with her. She's gonna love you, Mill," he laughed. "So I hope you love her, too. I figure, once she gets past the diaper stage, that'll be easier, but. —Hey, when's that Star Wars movie coming out? You going to see that?"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 03, 2015 9:15 pm

“And I’ll babysit and you’ll pay me and it’ll be great.” Her first job. Well, that was good…and it would be playing with a baby so that was pretty awesome…for now though. Now she had to get as much time with Jett as she could…

She was quiet, trying to think of a movie, though winced when he mentioned Star Wars. “It uh…comes out on December eighteenth…why? You gonna come see it with me? I can’t promise you I won’t walk out on it. I’m not very happy with the idea of it, to be perfectly hoenst with you so...”

Millie shrugged and began walking to the door of the gym. “We can figure out the movie later, I’m starving. This exercise wore me out something awful.”

Jett was still smiling as he followed after her. It had been a workout, but not the one he was expecting.

"Well, I'll tell you what. I'll go with you, and if it's too bad, I'll buy you your first drink. But that, you don't tell your mother. Or mine. Ever."

Throw the Negaverse at him, throw angry teenage girls at him, throw a baby at him—whatever.

But don't throw an angry mother (two though; he knew they'd talk) at him.

Workout or not, Jett left the gym in a good mood.

Whatever was going on with Millie, she'd make it through. She was a good kid.

He wasn't going to lose her.
