gaia_star[ The Abandoned Casino ] This place is extremely creepy and it seems like nothing is working in it. What used to look like a beautiful place has entirely been overrun by undying.
The building he'd determined to be some sort of casino wasn't exactly the most ideal place to be - but then again, nothing in this situation was. Gale glanced around with a carefully scrutinizing expression on his face, a slight frown bringing his lips down, idly twisting Jinhai's ring.
It was quiet and dark. There was nothing here but a lot of fog and too many questions, his human lying on the floor beside him.
With a small sigh, he continued moving around.

Davyne had taken to dragging her human around with her, something that would undoubtedly leave it with plenty of bruises when it woke up. If it ever did.
She was beginning to doubt. Certainly it'd been some time since she found the human and other than its unexpected attack on her, it showed no signs of consciousness. It was, for all intents and purposes, a lump that she dragged around with her.
But lumps didn't deserve to die just because they were currently lump-y, and she was doing her best to keep the human from harm. This was her task and she was determined to fulfill it, making sure her human got to somewhere safe.
If only a bloody portal would show up and make everything easier, that was. But she'd looked high and low and hadn't found any so far; she was beginning to despair that she would have to figure out an alternate means of escaping this place, and quite frankly she wasn't even sure where to begin on that.
So for now she was still on portal-lookout; which, currently, meant meandering around the old casino, looking curiously at all the human things in there.
Perhaps it had less to do with watching out for portals and more to do with her curiousity of all things human, then.
It was here that she came upon a fellow blonde and Davyne stopped, got a better grip on her human and then moved closer to him.
"Hello," she greeted, voice clear and loud. It would not do to startle someone too much, under the circumstances. "Do you happen to know of any portals leading out of here?"

He heard footsteps behind him, and something shivered in Gale's hand - a small gust of light and then his rifle had appeared, more out of instinct than actual aggression, fingers wrapping around the hilt of it. He stood it beside him, the hilt of it against the floor, and turned around, amber colored eyes flickering to the figure in front of him.
He did not recognize her, his eyes narrowing slightly, but Gale didn't make a move to attack, nor move closer to her - though he did take a step towards his civilian, just in case.
"No," he said. "No, I don't. Have you found anything?"

"Hmm," it was a noise of disappointment, almost a sigh. "I suppose it was too much to hope for; anyone who'd actually found one would hardly be hanging around here, after all. I have found nothing, as well." Certainly she would be long gone, had she found a portal by now - surely so would anyone else, she figured. This was not exactly a prime vacation spot or anything of the like.
Cocking her head slightly to the side, she surveyed the boil with some interest. He looked quite Reaper-like, but the coat... she'd seen a white and gold coat before.
"You are a Hunter?" It was half question, half statement and there was little change in her countenance over the revelation. "Like Dawson."

"True," said Gale, not condescendingly, but in agreement of what she had said. Anyone in their right mind would have disappeared through it the second they had found a portal, after letting the others know - and the fact that they still remained here meant that there was nothing there to find yet.
"We'll figure something open," he said, and sighed. "Hopefully we'll not be here too much longer, any of us."
Her question wasn't surprising - after all, he was fully dressed in his coat - but the fact that she'd named an actual person was. Gale turned slowly, his brows drawing together in confusion, curiosity flickering in his eyes. He'd never met Dawson personally, but he certainly knew of the man, had seen him on Twitter before.
"Yes," said Gale slowly, frowning out of thought. "Yes, like Dawson. Who are you? How come you know one of ours?"

"Indeed," she nodded, hoping for the same. This was not a place for anything or anyone to be, inhospitable as it was.
But hm, her saying he was a Hunter did not seem to make him happy; not that she had expected it particularly would, but she had not expected the frown. Even Davyne knew that frowns meant one was unhappy; it was universally so, although she supposed she had never thought if it was the same for humans.
But at least she now knew that he was indeed a Hunter.
"I am Davyne Versailles, Sorceress and first year student at Amityville Academy." The introduction was particularly formal, drilled into her as good manners by her scarents. "Dawson and I met somewhat recently in an odd part of school that was," she hesitated, not exactly sure how to explain it, "no longer part of the school."
Had she been more in touch with the going-ons at school, she would have been able to tell him that she was talking about the Haunted House. As it was, she was floundering to describe it and simply decided to move onwards in the conversation; "I did not know that humans have such a thing as Hunters, and he explained it."
And then, because that painted her rather as an expert that she was definitely not, "not in great detail, sadly - I still have so many questions! - but in broad strokes. Can you believe," she brightened, "humans with Fear shields?!"
And then she remembered that he quite probably could, being one of them. "That is, ah..." a slight blush rose to her cheeks and she looked a bit embarrassed. "I have not had many chances to discuss this with other creeple."

Gale wouldn't exactly say that he loved his job as a hunter - but he couldn't think of having any other life at all, other than this one. It was such an ingrained part of him that he couldn't quite think of it as a job anymore, and just life; almost four years had passed since he'd come to Deus Ex Machina, and it seemed now like forever.
He didn't recognize the creature, nor her name - but if she was a first year, like she was saying, then that would make sense. Gale's contacts at Amityville were mostly limited to the older students, though he supposed now, he should expand his knowledge and information about them.
It was easy, though, to guess that she was speaking of the Haunted House. Gale's frown of thought grew more pronounced, and his fingers tapped lightly against the barrel of his gun, an idle, subconscious gesture as he tried to put together what she was telling him.
She - Davyne - didn't seem afraid of him, or hunters in general, which made it a little easier. In fact, she seemed...curious..? Excited, even?
"Yes, we have shields made of FEAR," said Gale slowly. "They protect us, which comes in handy. I assume that Dawson spoke to you of our purpose and our intent, then; that our duty is to protect the human civilians of the world from dark creatures."
He tilted his head, regarding her quietly.
"You sound surprisingly interested in us. I've met several who are simply aggressive, rather than curious."

"I would imagine so," she nodded, somewhat eagerly. "And as for your purpose, I did hear. It seems a fine one, much in line with what DETH is trying to achieve in Halloween," though Davyne's facial expressions didn't change much between one or the other, her hands were fluttering all over the place, attempting to illustrate her words. Excitement was influencing her movements, though she did not notice it.
"Ah? Why so?" She was genuinely curious. "Both the other Hunter and yourself have been nothing but courteous. In my battles with the creatures in this city I have seen others as well, working on the same side as the creeple from Halloween - there does not seem to be much reason for aggressiveness at all, in my opinion."
"As for interest," her hands were fluttering again, "I should be hard-pressed to deny it! It seems rather marvelous, an organization for humans working for the same goals as DETH - that scaring, the gathering of Fear should never be harmful to humans, and the harming of humans at all should be done away with. Why, some creeple even kill them!" She scoffed, shaking her head before continuing in a vehement tone; "utter idiocy. A peaceful co-existence should be the goal; we depend on humans for surviving after all and to kill them is both discourteous and impractical in the long run."
That had been a bit speech-y, but she really couldn't help it. Out of all the things in her life, DETH was the one that got the most passion out of Davyne. Well, that and crafts, but one rarely needed a speech for embroidery.
