It felt like forever before Estel found a human. She bent down beside the woman crumpled on the sidewalk, wiping away some of the blood on her forehead, and then hauled her up.
"Why are you so heavy?" Estel groaned, wrapping both arms around the woman's waist and pulling, backing up one step at a time. She had come in a straight line from the portal, so she just had to walk in a straight line back... right?

Finally. Finally, finally, finally. Estel backed through the portal, dragging the human with her.
This wasn't right. She could tell.
"s**t, s**t, s**t..." What was that? It wasn't one creature, it was... s**t, it was like a big lump of people like her, wasn't it?
We will consume you and your Fear will be ours.
"No you won't!" Estel shouted right back. Now that she was out of the fog, it was a little easier for her to move. She adjusted her grip on the human and bolted.

Was that a bike? She knew bikes. Sitting down with the human in front of her, Estel wrapped one arm around the human's waist. "Better not drop you..."

It was CHASING her. Estel pedaled like her life depended on it, which was ironic when you thought about it too hard. At the very least, the human's life probably depended on it. On her.
Well, that was more responsibility than she'd been hoping for when she'd read that stupid pamphlet.

Finally, there was a portal. Was it the right one? Estel sure hoped so, because she needed to get out of here. Now.

As she stumbled to get both herself and the human off the bike, she realized that she wasn't being chased anymore.
"Okay... okay. Portal. In you go..."
Her human shrieked at her, eyes open.
"No, no, it's okay, just relax, I... HEY!" It-- she-- had hit her! Estel tried to push her towards the portal and then yelped as the human took off running. "No, not that way!" Estel tackled the human, slamming them both to the ground. She picked herself up and checked for a pulse. The human was unconscious again. Maybe she'd gone a bit overboard.
And then the portal... closed in front of her eyes.
