He didn't really get a response and he wasn't sure how long he'd been gone now.
What had the book said. Find human. Hug human. Bring it back to the portal.
Aphrodi was all lanky arms and legs, so he bent down to pick up the human, cradling it under the knee and shoulders and attempted to stand up. "Wha!" The human was heavy. He had been sent here to rescue a human, so he was going to rescue a human. Aphrodi tugged on the human again. He could lift it, but Aphrodi could already feel the downward pull as the sleeping human slipped a little in his hands.
If only he was in his real form he'd simply get the human onto his back, it wasn't passable though. He didn't have the arm strength to carry the human this way. Aphrodi looked back through the fog, seeing the portal was... how could it be so close? He must have walked in circles to still be this close, he'd walked for so long.
Carefully Aphrodi placed the sleeping human on the ground then hoisted it up over a shoulder. His shoulders weren't as wide as he was use to, but they could support a lot more than his arms alone. Once balanced he slowly made his way back to the portal.
Once they were through Aphrodi was ready to hand the human off to another-
But they weren't back in Halloween. It looked like the human world, still, with a very tall building next to them, covered entirely in vines. Then the ground began to shake.
Aphrodi caught sight of the dog-horse-shadow-vine-thing... thing behind him. And it was after them.
We will consume you and your Fear will be ours.
The words split into Aphrodi's head, nearly forcing him unconscious. It was instinct, before Aphrodi could realize he had done it, he was in his natural form, the human a slight weight on his back. The huge white tiger turned sideways to the beast, the thing made of lost Halloween creatures. He roared at it, feeling nauseated at it's presence. He couldn't fight that thing, not by himself. Aphrodi knew when he was out-classed. He ran.

Aphrodi kept running as the city burst into wild vines around him. He didn't look back, he could hear the thing behind him. He didn't care what way he went, taking turns randomly until he turned onto a long stretch of road with nowhere to hide. And the fog move back in on him.
Aphrodi's footsteps slowed as the weight of the human seemed more present. He wouldn't be able to keep running like this. Then he felt himself forced back into humanoid shape. He stumbled...
...right into a car. It was green and uninteresting, except it still had the key in it! They only had moments, so Aphrodi didn't care what it was, only that it worked. He got the human in the car, because this was all the humans fault, somehow, because that was why he was here in the first place.
He'd helped move trailers for the circus, so he knew how to drive. Aphrodi hopped into the drivers seat, turned the ignition (thankfully it was an automatic and not a stick shift) and hit the gas. He could clearly feel the proper portal, just 10 kilometers strait ahead.

The car moved faster than it looked like it would move. Still the thing caught up to them before they made it to the portal. The car was struck hard, banging Aphrodi and the human around inside, somehow he kept it on the road.

The car was upon the portal in no time. Aphrodi slammed on the breaks, sliding their ride in a drift. Smoke rolled into the air.
Aphrodi was already moving, grabbing the human and dragging it towards the portal.
Only another few moments and he'd hopefully be home-free.

The sudden tightening of muscles wasn't enough warning for Aphrodi as the human draped over his shoulder started to struggle.
"No, le'me go. I'm not going back!" The human yelled, a young male voice.
"Hey! Hey, stop struggling!" Aphrodi tried, only to get kicked. "Ow! Hold still Jack-damn-it you pain!"
The human male had wiggled free from Aphrodi's grasp though and landed hard on the ground behind him. The human moved in a flash, crouched and ready to attack, a knife had been pulled from somewhere. He looked horrible, fresh blood dripped from his chin, eye crusted shut, it would probably be all the rage back in Halloween if others saw it. the one eye watching Aphrodi looked glassy. "Get away!" He swiped at Aphodi. "I don't know if you're some kind of undying-shadow or what, but I've dealt with others!" Then the human male wavered, the knife slipped from his hand, and the human toppled forward.
The human didn't move. Aphrodi moved forward to check on him. Out cold again. Thankfully.
Aphrodi started to pull the human towards the portal, only to stop as soon as he started.
Where was the portal? He could not freaking believe this!
