"Working hard or hardly working?"
If he could have glared any harder he would have killed the man with his gaze. Kaethus had never really held a real job for a long time and while in this setting it was more out of necessity than just getting money, he didn't like dealing directly with the people some of the time. They'd gotten pretty close now, but he heard the line at least 5 times a day and his nerves were starting to wane.
There was an audible sigh as he shook his head side to side, dishing out the next few rations with a half-hearted smile. Despite the undying and everything else he felt like his life wouldn't be all too different. He would still be in the prison for a while longer. Probably still doing something like kitchen duty.
But this was better than that, right?
As he was lost in his thoughts a familiar man came by and picked up his rations. Kaethus only caught a brief sight of him. "Hey wait!" He called, moving around the line and staring. But like before, the man who picked up his rations left them on the table again. "Damn it!" Kaethus said and nearly punched the wall near him.
So far it had been the second time while he was on duty and once again he took them to lock away with the other set the man had left. At least then the food wasn't wasted, but he couldn't help wonder why he wasn't eating or if maybe he was eating something else? But then why not give them to someone else?
It was a puzzle all right, but he wasn't sure what the answer was. He'd probably have to take it to The Boss or his assistant, even if the man put him on edge. With another sigh he went back to work, but swore he'd slap the s**t out of anyone who started with "Working hard..." to him.
