Wataru didn't know why he'd volunteered for cleaning duty again. Okay, actually he did know why: Wataru didn't at all think that physical labor was his thing. He was accustomed enough to climbing stairs, so why not, right? At least he wasn't carrying a large box full of sheet metal while he was doing it. He took his assignation from Zelda's office with a salute and began ascending. And ascending. And...also ascending.
He didn't even consider stopping in to see his friend group as he passed the fourteenth floor, because it meant he still had eight floors to go. Sure, Wataru, volunteer for cleaning duty once and then Zelda tells you to do the penthouse. The penthouse!

Actually, to be fair, Zelda was neither intimidating nor an a*****e. He'd just drawn the short straw today. Or perhaps it'd be more accurate to say that it was the tall straw. Because the penthouse was at the top of the tower. Joy of joys.
He reached the top floor, at last, with a loud huff of breath, and was briefly glad that no one was around to see. At least the penthouse didn't have a door to open other than the door to get out of the stairs? He'd carried his supplies all this way, after all. And at least, Wataru thought, it was pretty clean.
Wait, actually, what was he supposed to be cleaning up right now?
Wait - yep - he saw it.

There was a little yellow stain on the wall. Okay, not little: it was the size of Wataru's hand, which was actually pretty sizable. Wataru reached up with a wet cloth and began scrubbing angrily. That was the way to get things like this to go away, right? He soaped it up again and then went for it another time. The - whatever it was - was gone now.
Okay.

Wataru spent a while looking for something else to clean, but it was because it'd been hidden behind the bathroom's door: someone had tracked mud or dirt in around it. It was pretty unbelievable: someone had walked up twenty-one stories without getting mud anywhere else, and then somehow managed to dirty up the bathroom here?
Actually, to be fair, maybe someone else had cleaned up the stairs, and the dirt in the rest of the penthouse, and had just not thought to check in here. Well. At least this was easy. Wataru picked up his dustpan and scooped everything into an empty plastic bag that was quickly sealed off. Then he mopped with that soapy water, and rinsed it over again with clean water.
He didn't bother drying. No one would bother to climb all the way up here before it dried, right?
Okay. Now he just had to...sit for a bit. Before he had to climb all the way back down to give his report to Zelda. Ugh.
