Sophomore Quest: Power Up We've got to keep this place running (and maybe build an awesome electric fence or remote controlled attack robot or something), and the current stock of supplies won't last forever! This could get a bit tricky, and noise is a risk, and any kind of power cell or electrical device is best handled with care - so make sure you're up for this one, Sophomore.
For this task, you will be given minimal safety equipment in addition to their standard scavenging gear (bag/light), such as pliers, wire cutters, gloves, etc. You are expected to return these, so don't lose them...and try to stay alive while they're in your possession. You will also be given a list with crudely drawn examples of 'useful things', in case you don't know what that means. You can keep that, champ.
RP Notes for this Quest: Make sure the following are mentioned in your RP: - Your Character wearing their assigned jersey. - Your Character being given a large reusable plastic bag (bearing the university bookstore's name), a flashlight, and safety gear. - Once you are finished the quest, please mention them returning the jersey, bag and flashlight, as well as any equipment they took with them!
To complete this quest: - Roll 10d4. You can split this up into multiple posts or roll all 10 at once, but 10 must be rolled total! - Each number correlates to the quality of what you find:
1: Small materials. Wires, small batteries, electrical tape, small battery-operated toys or toothbrushes or ahem, etc. 2: Slightly larger to mediocre supplies. Unopened batteries, short extension cords, basic tools, rechargeable electronics, etc. 3: Good condition items that are high in demand. Sturdy electrical cables, D cell batteries, sheets of metal, specialty tools, etc. 4: The really good stuff! Small solar panels, car batteries, portable charging units, etc.
- You can choose items not specified here at your discretion. Please note that any items found are considered IC gains only and will not count towards your mini site totals.
Obtaining credits: - Count the number of times you rolled each number. - You receive credits corresponding to the number you rolled most frequently:
- If two numbers were equally frequent, go by the higher number! - You receive 1 additional course credit for each 4 you roll. Example: You rolled 1, 3, 2, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 4, 2, or 2 1s, 4 2s, 2 3s, 2 4s. You rolled mostly 2s, so you get 4 course credits, plus an additional 2 course credits for rolling 2 4s, giving you a total of 6 course credits.
As a bonus IC reward, you can choose to keep one small scavenged item of your choice. These would most likely be personal items that are not all that useful to the group as a whole, like an electronic bear that says something when you hug it, or a flashing headband, or electric toothbrush/razor, small handheld games, etc.
If you'd like to do this in a group: - Both will need to roll 10d4. You can alternate posts with 1d4 in each, or alternate with 2d4 in each - whatever method works best for you, as long as you both roll 10 times. - There is no word count requirement, but all posts by all group members must be filled in for the quest to be counted as complete.
Matilda clicked on her flashlight. It had been a while since she'd gotten out of the university, having been consumed with inside jobs. Unfortunately, the university needed items to maintain their electrical usage. While low-wattage lightbulbs definitely saved on their electricity, they were still using more than they were generating.
So now Matilda had donned her jersey to search for items to boost their stock.
Starting by checking the inside of a run-down building, Matilda smiled as she managed to find a locked drawer. Pulling out a screwdriver, she managed to break open the lock. Inside was a pack of unopened D cell batteries! Rummaging through the drawer further yielded a portable charging unit! Two charging units!
Searching around the desk revealed an old power cable. This could definitely be useful. It was mildly frayed, possibly from a small animal, but it was still safe to use. Going back to the unlocked drawer, Matilda found some electrical tape. Patching up one of the spots on the cable, she took it and the tape, tucking it away into her bag.
Finding nothing else of interest in the desk, Matilda continued on to another room. Her flashlight fell upon a bag sitting in the room. Opening it up gave the woman the impression of a child's backpack. Stacks of unopened batteries, a flashlight, and a portable game system. Clicking the system on prompts the screen to light up with a monster collecting game that had been popular before the world went bad. Turning it off and putting the whole pack into her bag, Matilda continued her search.
As Matilda began to think she wouldn't find anything else of note, she spotted an abandoned car. Could she dare to hope? Using her pliers to pry open the rusted hood, she grinned giddily at the sight of a fairly new, if a bit dusty, car battery. Setting her bag down, she got out her gloves and began working on removing the object.
Within five minutes, Matilda was happily walking back through the doorway with all her finds. She felt she had done a good job this time around. Handing her scavenging supplies and finds over to the waiting surveyor, Matilda took her credits with the pride of a job well done.

Setting out once more with her jersey, bag, and flashlight. Matilda decided to try another building.
Her first rummage through some drawers brought her two packs of batteries and some electrical cords. These could be useful. Further exploration of a different drawer yielded a portable charging unit. This would do nicely!
Seeing nothing else of interest in any of the other drawers, Matilda roamed around the back of the building. Her eyes lit upon some discarded sheet metal. Perfect for conducting electricity!
Stuffing the four pieces she could manage to fit into her bag, she noticed some wires laying on the ground. These could help out in a pinch.
Noticing her bag was starting to sag under the weight of the items she'd found, Matilda returned to the university, handed over her supplies and finds, and took her credits. It felt nice to actually do something.

grabbing up a bag and flashlight once more, Matilda put on her jersey and set out to find more supplies.
Not too far out, she managed to find a solar panel. "This will definitely help out!," Matilda smiled, placing the item into her bag gently. Spotting a trashcan nearby, Matilda opened the can and rummaged through it with her gloves. Inside, she found an extension cord, electrical cables, and wires. Thought the real prize was hidden at the bottom. While the charging unit could use some maintenance, it was still in fairly good condition!
Going through the trashcan next to it yielded more wires, a thin sheet of metal, and a slightly worn car battery! Had someone hid their things in here for later use? It was debatable whether the owner would come back if that was the case, since they would have retrieved their things by now if they were planning on returning. With that logic, Matilda carefully uncovered all the items and put them into her bag.
Slinging the bag over her shoulder, the woman set her feet on the path back to the university to drop of her things and collect her reward for her efforts.

"Let's see what I can find," Matilda murmured to herself as she pulled on her worn jersey.
She was surprised when her trek brought her to an abandoned car. Looking inside, she felt like she was dreaming. Wires, batteries, cables, extension cords, electronic devices both battery operated and rechargeable. There was even a car battery left in the car itself! Looking on top of the car, the woman's eyes goggled as she realized the roof was made of solar panels.
It looked like someone had robbed an electronic store in a smart car! Why would someone possibly abandon this car?
It took her a moment to notice the bloodstains around the back trunk accompanied by a huge dent. Whoever had own the car had probably been attacked... and judging by the blood and lack of a body, hadn't survived.
Packing up all the items into her bag, Matilda gave silent thanks to the person responsible for her good fortune. She didn't plan to let it go to waste. The people who received the goods seemed very pleased as they handed over Matilda's reward.

Today's second exploration led Matilda to an abandoned electronics store. Not wanting to get her hopes up in fear of it being thoroughly looted, the blonde stepped over the broken glass that used to be the sliding doors and entered.
Matilda was surprised. While most of the large items were notably missing from the torn-down shelves, smaller items like batteries, handheld games, extension cords, and even a pair of wire cutters were able to be salvaged from the wreckage.
She gasped when some digging yielded two solar powered portable generators. they were perfect!
Putting the generators on the bottom of the bag, Matilda took what she could fit of the smaller items and hurried as quickly as her legs could carry her back to the university. They would surely love the items she found today.
