It was a little nerve-wracking to have the Boss approach you, even though Monica was already well aware that he knew her name. She'd been taking orders from him, after all, and she had to believe that he was organized enough to know all the officers' names. Also, well: Monica had been doing pretty well for herself, all things said.
But the summons itself was a little nerve-wracking. He didn't give any hint of what was to come. Had one of her repairs fallen through? Did he have a specific job for her?
Well, it didn't matter much. She put her things away and trotted to his office in short order, knocking briskly on the door. "It's Monica, sir!" she called.

"Come in."
The Boss was standing near his desk, which was clear of everything save for a bottle of water and something wrapped up in some cloth. He waited for her to enter, then turned towards her.
"Awhile ago, I mentioned to everyone that there would be potential places of leadership for those who proved themselves. I've noticed that you have been working hard, contributing much to help ensure this group's survival. Both in gathering supply, and ensuring that our defenses remain sound. I think you may have what it takes to help manage everyone, given your experience."
He paused, waiting for this to sink in.
"So, what do you say?"

Monica entered, scanning the desk intently. She hadn't had much occasion to come here, after all. What made a guy who ran all of their affairs so efficiently tick?
Monica remembered the speech: right afterwards, she'd learned just how skilled her good friend Greta was at using a knife. And, well, of course she hungered for advancement. So she'd been working hard, both to ensure that Cory had somewhere safe to live (he was only seventeen, after all), and because she wanted to be noticed. So as he spoke her jaw began dropping. Because, of course, he was noticing the effort she put in. "Really?" she asked, a grin spreading quickly across her face. She loved that he'd just gotten to the point.
"If you'd take me, I'd love to step up and help keep everyone safe." She sounded resolute: sure, it'd mean she was taking on more responsibility, but it'd also mean she knew exactly what was going on. Maybe she'd even be able to keep Cory doing things that'd keep him out of trouble Monica was pretty nosy, after all...
But of course she wanted it.

"I wouldn't be offering otherwise," he said quietly.
With that said, the Boss moved over and picked up the bundle on the desk. He made his way back to Monica and held it out.
"As my first Lt, I'd like you to take one of these. Gifts from... the bandits. The bandages... supposedly can bring back the dead. But just once. The blade is supposed to be able to eliminate weaker undying on the spot. Three shots."

Monica's jaw dropped. Was that what the bandits had called all their leaders in for? They both sounded like ludicrously beneficial items...and yet of course Monica knew which gift she'd prefer. "I'll take the bandages," she said decisively. The description sounded absurd and far-fetched, but of course Monica would jump at the chance to ensure that anyone could survive longer. Even if it was maybe a little bit unnatural. Besides, with her fishing rod she felt a lot more confident about her ability to deal with the undying.
