Willow was irritated.
It had been too loud. Too energetic. Too much. The last class he had been to had been so disorganized, and he had slunk out of class before the bell had even rung. He probably was going to get a lecture, or even a dreaded call home, but honestly? He didn't care. He turned in his homework on-time, and did most of the class assignments, so what did it matter that he left ten minutes early?
He had crawled into the hollow part of a tree, wiggling until he was comfortable. He pulled a book from his messenger bag, flipping through it until he found his spot, leaning against the back of the tree and propping his legs up on either side of the hole of the tree.
Ah, this was the life. No caretaker. No people. No anything. Maybe now he could finally read without any worries.
This was the life.

Korvau was not irritated. In fact, he was extremely happy at the moment.
Classes had ended, so he was finally free to do as he pleased. Naturally, he'd rushed to put his stuff in his dorm and then taken off running as fast as he could to get some of that pent up energy taken care of. Much to the dismay of his caretaker, he was soon out of sight.
Normally he liked to run around the designated exercising area, but today he wanted to go run near the forest. It was especially nice out, so why not? As soon as he approached the edge of the trees he slowed down a little, extra careful to watch out for any stray roots... he didn't exactly want to trip or anything...
He continued along for a while until something caught his eye... he paused, then jogged backwards, ears perked to full attention... what was that? He squinted a little, leaning over the trail to get a better look before... he gasped, and pointed, exclaiming "LEGS!!" at the top of his lungs, tail wagging behind him excitedly.

His evening had been going great. He had a book in his hands, the wind was gentle, and the temperature was mild. His little hiding spot had yet to be discovered by the caretakers. It was a good day! No one to bother him! No one to demand he pretend to be social, or knew how to people, or even knew how to smile. Good. Awesome. Perfect.
'LEGS!'
Oh sweet Nine, what was that? Willow jerked up, eyes locking on a freshling within seconds. Deities! Why?! Who was this? Why were they screaming basic parts of the anatomy at him? Were they broken? Did they need to be fixed? Could they just not? His previously serene face dropped, giving the other boy an intense deadpan stare.
"What." It wasn't a question. No. It was a statement. 'You can just stop.' His tone said as he squirmed to properly sit up, biting back the desire to shout back another anatomy part at the boy. No. Don't encourage the weird kid. Don't do it. He might think that's an invitation.
But seriously. Who shouted legs at someone? He just watched the other, almost wondering what other strange and perhaps unnecessary statement would leave his lips.

Another freshling! Well, of course it was another freshling, but still!! Korvau was pretty sure he hadn't seen this kid around before... or maybe he had? Oh boy. Potential new friend. He bounded on over to him, nearly tripping over some bushes along the way. Never mind that whoever this was seemed mad, he was gonna befriend this person anyway!
"Hi!!" He finally did trip, nearly faceplanting into the dirt, but caught himself... and then scrambled to his feet again to finally make it to the tree Willow was sitting in. "I'm Korvau what's your name?? What are you doing in this tree? Is this your secret hide out? What's that book!?" In an instant the questions came pouring out, he was just so excited he couldn't help but ask it all at once!

Oh. Oh joy. He was approaching. Oh, what a blessed day it was.
Willow just watched, tail tip twitching in annoyance as the boy proceeded to trip all over himself. No. Don't get closer. Oh deities. Why. Why? Once the boy was suitable at a distance that made Willow uncomfortable the Imp just stared, contemplating just getting up and leaving.
Oh, the lecture Ivy would give if she found out. Also, no, nono! He wasn't going to let this boy, Korvau, chase him from his spot! Nu-uh! This was his.
The onslaught of questions did cause Willow to double take. Oh no. He was a talker. He flicked his eyes to his book, the hole of the tree he was in, and then back at the boy, tail tip still twitching in rhythm with his heartbeat.
"Willow." He offered, watching the other intensely. "Reading. Not anymore, I guess. The Little Vespercat." He fired back the answers, not caring to make them actual sentences. Okay. He did the thing. The talking thing. He could be dismissed now, right? Please? Please?

Ever oblivious, Korvau did not seem to realize that Willow was hating every bit of this interaction. Every bit. He grinned widely, tail wagging excitedly as Willow answered his questions. Straight to the point, Korv was familiar with that sort of response but hadn't yet learned to associate it with negativity.
"Nice to meet you Willow. That's a pretty name!! I like it. I haven't read that book before!! What's it about??" He would have asked more, but Willow's tail caught his attention... he watched it move, completely transfixed for a few seconds... and then he shook his head, ears flopping wildly. "Ah! Your tail is really cool!! Mine isn't nearly as fluffy... but i have a little bit!!" As if to prove it, he grabbed his tail and held it up for Willow to see.

Willow couldn't help the less than polite response he was about to give, forgetting the manners his parents had spent so long teaching him.
"It's about a little Vespercat." Wasn't that obvious? His eyes noticed Korvau's staring, flicking his gaze towards the others tail before moving to put his book back in his bag, pulling himself up to sit straight. Suddenly, a tail was being shoved into his face, his hands raising in alarm to keep distance between the two.
"Ah, yes. I see...." Oh Nine, he just wanted to read!

Oh, well, he supposed that was obvious but hey! It could have been about something else, right? He grinned, nodding a bit in response to Willow's answer. Though, as soon as the hands came up, he immediately pulled his tail back. "Are you okay?? You got all scared!" He blinked, not really understanding that some people just did not like having their space invaded, and he had indeed invaded Willow's space. "SO. How come you came all the way out here to read??"

Willow just stared, which really seemed his only strategy to handling the other currently. Shaking his head, the Imp didn't bother to answer, instead flicking his gaze about. There had to be a way out of here. Seriously. What if he threw a ball? Would the hyper freshling run after it? Could he leave then? Problem was, he didn't have a damn ball. Drats.
"To be alone." He gave a pointed stare to the other freshling, though he was 100% sure he wouldn't get the hint. "It's nice and quiet out here. Or, it usually is." Aha, what about now? Could his sass be detected?

To be alone. Korvau blinked, tilting his head. "Isn't that lonely??" He rocked on his free, from heel to ball as he thought it over, tail wagging slowly... Oh. Wait a minute.
To be alone.
In an instant his excited features dropped dramatically - was he intruding? Oh no. He'd done it again - this kid was probably mad and he did not... DID NOT want to make anyone mad. "Ohhh........" The soft sound escaped his mouth in an unusually quiet tone compared to how he'd been speaking before. He clasped his hands together, wringing them a little as he stepped back a couple paces, tail curling between his legs.
"Um... I-- I didn't mean to make you angry... If you're angry-- I mean. Um. I'm sorry."

Was it lonely? No... It was nice, even. Willow watched the other seemed to work on figuring something out, eying the other as their body seemed to.... droop? Did he really just deflate? Was that even possible? Apparently so. He blinked back at the boy, his own tail twitching. Wait, really. Seriously. Did he only just get it now? And why did Willow feel a faint bit of regret? It hadn't occurred to him that the other could even feel remorse, and now he wished he hadn't caused it. Korvau had just been screaming, and now he was almost an entirely different person.
Willow let out an audible sigh, head shaking. Oh Nine, now he felt like a jerk. Pulling out his book, he settled on a root, eyes flicking back up to look at the completely deflated Korvau. Nine, that look did not fit him.
"I'm not mad." Well, now he wasn't. Maybe he had been too harsh. No, he certainly had. Willow never really.... talked to people. He wasn't experienced with it, really. What was he supposed to say and do? Sure, Korvau annoyed him at first, but maybe he shouldn't have been so rude. Maybe the boy just meant well. Ugh. Fine. Fine. He was a jerk. He got it. Now could he stop feeling so guilty?
His eyes flicked back to look at the boy, mouth tightening. Alright. Damage control, lets go. He patted the root beside him, staring at the boy as if he ought to know what that meant.
"I'm not good with the whole talking thing." He admitted. If he was going to try and get this boy to puff himself back up he might as well do some explaining. "And I'm quiet." He refrained from adding 'which you aren't'. Instead, he opened his book, nodding towards the offered spot.
"If you can be quiet, I'll let you stay and read to you. But if you yell again I'll leave and you'll need to read the book yourself." There, fair compromise, right? That, and maybe he wanted to share the story he was reading. Maybe. He wasn't about to say that, but....

I'm not mad. Immediately relief washed over his features, thank goodness. He chewed at his lip a little, still, waiting for Willow to finish speaking before responding - a sort of restraint he didn't normally show. When he finished, Korvau nodded, slowly, wordlessly."Okay. I can be quiet...!" He nodded again, then eyed the spot Willow had patted. After a brief moment of hesitation, he shuffled over to settle himself onto it, then brought his knees up to his chest and wrapped his arms around them. Once situated, he curled his tail around his ankles and then rested his chin on his knees, eyes focused on Willow.
"I can't read very good..." It was something he was working on, but reading was just sooooo haaaard... and it required sitting still for tooooooo loooooong. But if someone else read to him, it wasn't so bad... He could picture the words in his head like a movie. Hopefully Willow would stay - all he wanted was a new friend...
