Profile: Sonnie's the kind of troll who wants to get along with everyone. He's kindhearted, diligent, humble, and does his best to make everyone around him happy. More than anything, he craves to be seen as responsible and likeable by his peers. And though he's a people-pleaser, he's relatively quiet, never really one to speak up or take leadership. Often, he tends to fade into the background and get forgotten by the larger group.
A big reason for this is that Sonnie is affected considerably by social anxiety, and is incredibly nervous in most social situations. He has his own ways of coping with this, but there is an ever present feeling of dread in the back of his head, always second-guessing himself and worrying about other trolls' opinions of him. He's often so scared of what people think, he can't speak up. And though he wants to feel important among his peers, his anxiety stifles him.
To try and cope with his nervousness, Sonnie creates puppets. In the rebel community, his favorite chore is laundry, often asking for unpaired socks to make sock puppets characters out of. Typically, his characters have very loud, distinct personalities, often unafraid of what they are saying. Sonnie not only uses these characters to abate his loneliness, but he also uses them to interact with others and voice opinions he would normally be too scared to say. In a way they work like a defense mechanism for Sonnie. If someone dislikes the ideas he voiced through his puppets, then they have a problem with his character, and not him personally. Sonnie, being very quick to try and meet others wants and needs, is willing to stifle his puppets to improve relations with another troll. They're supposed to be funny, and while stifling them could hinder his own self-esteem and speaking ability, he'll quickly put them away if someone feels upset or antagonized by them.
Of course, this coping mechanism is an important part of who Sonnie is and how he views himself. For a troll to take issue with his puppetry in general is a huge attack on Sonnie's personality, and though he's agreeable enough to put his toys away, he'd be considerably embarrassed and upset to the point of tears, and would have a terribly difficult time communicating.
Sonnie's creativity does extend beyond his puppets. He has a particular fascination for gadgetry, and loves tinkering and fixing up the various machines around the village. Because Sonnie wants to improve everyone's quality of life, he keeps ideas and blueprints on how to fix even the littlest things for the better. On top of his love for tech, he loves art in any form, especially because he has little access to it at home.
Sonnie's lusus, Kermie, is a kindhearted frogpuppet who has had a large influence on Sonnie's personality. They share a lot of traits, especially in their determination to do what's best for others. They love each other dearly, but their personalities are similar, and their interactions are often stiff and mundane, as Sonnie keeps personal matters to himself to avoid bothering him.
Sonnie was raised in the rebel outpost, and as such was raised with the belief of hemoequality. He believes wholeheartedly in the concept, but is still working on "fighting" for it, as he isn't the type to speak up about it outside of the outpost. Typically, he's much more likely to comfort a downtrodden lowblood after-the-fact than intervene directly against a highblood's tyranny.
Strengths:
Improvisational— Raised by the rebellion in the decrepit swamp, Sonnie has learned to excel at making something out of nothing. He's a quick thinker, also making him exceptionally talented at diffusing tension and rising conflict between trolls.
Determined— Always thinking about others opinions of him, Sonnie works very hard to be seen as important and responsible. He's always more than willing to lend a hand to trolls in need, never expecting anything but gratitude in return.
Agreeable— This greenblood's first defense mechanism is always saying yes, and it's hard to start fights with somebody who agrees with everything you say. Sonnie deflates conflict by killing with kindness, even if he doesn't know it.
Flaws:
Overthinking— Sonnie is constantly worrying about other trolls' opinions. He'll often misread faces or small, mundane gestures, and automatically assume the worst possible option (that they hate him). This worrying extends to making large decisions, too, which tend to make him panic.
Overachiever— Sonnie often finds himself way over his head with the amount of work he takes on. He wants everyone to like him and be proud of him, and as such has a very difficult time telling anyone "no". He rarely asks for help, and overworks himself frequently.
Withdrawn— Though he craves the company of others, Sonnie almost always keeps to himself instead of reaching out. When he's upset, he hides his problems and cuts off from society, which hardly ever resolves anything. He keeps a lot about himself bottled up and hidden away, letting his emotions linger and stir dangerously.
Weapon: Sock puppet maces! Always improvisational, Sonnie slips cue balls into his sock puppets to create a powerful bludgeoning weapon. He doesn't see this as hurting the characters, he views it more as their way of throwing punches. And more often then not, his characters are more willing to fight than he is.
Appearance: Sonnie is a lanky, awkward child with a peculiar sense of style. Afraid of accidentally touching his toxic lusus, he wears a green morph suit under his regular clothes— his "regular clothes" being an oversized, collared tank, ragged and muddy from swampwear. Sonnie almost always his puppets on him. He wears the tube sock puppets over one or both of his hands.
He makes little effort to hide his often terrified and anxious expression, and his already wide eyes do little to help him fix that. His thick, curly hair shapes into a strange triangle shape. Small horns stick out from his hair, curling back towards the center of his head and nearly touching his scalp (he often worries the horns will grow to pierce into his thinkpan). The resulting shape of his horns looks like a pair of eyes.
Home: The Swamp. Sonnie lives in the rebel community, in a run-down shack situated a little bit lower to the swamp water, per his frog lusus' request. A set of stairs and a dock lead out into the marsh, allowing his lusus to come and go as he pleases. The interior of Sonnie's hive is nothing special. If anything, it's mildly disorganized and in constant need of repair. He spends more time fixing up the community than he does his own hive.
Lusus: Kermie is a strange frog-puppet construct with a strangely goopy skin texture. Though very small, he is capable of protecting his charge through a variety of unique defenses. His limbs are incredibly stretchy (as well as removable and regrowable), making it easy to catch and hold potential predators. His skin is also highly poisonous to the point of acidity, making it easy to burn and scare off such threats.
The fallback with having highly poisonous skin is that Kermie cannot physically interact with Sonnie. Sonnie's use of hand puppets actually stems from this, as the boy started to wear protective gloves to avoid accidental injury. The acid still burns through cloth, but it provides something of a protective layer to avoid immediate burns. Because of this, Sonnie and his lusus can only speak vocally, and they often do so through puppets. Kermie loves Sonnie's hobby and sometimes even wishes there was a way for him to have puppets of his own, if only to be supportive of his charge.
Sonnie, being a nervous child, often clings to the other adults as a physical stand-in for his own lusus. This makes Kermie very sad, as he tries very hard to be a good, kindhearted, and reasonable role model for his charge. He wants nothing more than to be supportive of his charge, and it does disappoint him to not be fully capable of this. Despite what Kermie may think, Sonnie cares very deeply for him, and is more scared of disappointing him over any troll.
