In light of the recent surprise infected mob, Corey has created a new duty for the University Faction: Building Maintenance. The goal of this quest is to patch up holes and create traps in an effort to protect the overall group.

Quest Notes
- This quest can not be completed solo. There must be two or more people in your group.
- Each person must do all the steps and dice rolls. No tag teaming!
- Your group is given a rather heavy bag of equipment. It's clearly all items from the maintenance shed, and includes such items as a hammer, some nails, a screwdriver set, some fishing line, a measuring tape, etc. Building maintenance supplies. These do NOT count as materials, just aids to help you ICly.
- This requires some imagination - after all, there is a very real chance you might be clogging a broken window with a bucket!
- No new people may join an open Building Maintenance Thread once the group moves on to step 2.

Step One - Material Gathering
- Before you can begin the maintenance, you must gather some materials!
- Roll a 5d12 in one post, and match your result to the materials below:
1: You break a couple desks, and now have TWO pieces of wood! (+2 Materials)
2: You find…a bucket? Well, alright. (+1 Material)
3: There are a bunch of backpacks lying around. Three of them. Might as well bring them along. (+3 Materials)
4: You lucky deviant! You found the Janitor's cart. It only has a mop, some cleaning supplies (a bottle of windex, some bleach, and 4 unused garbage bags), and precisely three towels. One of the towels is a grease rag though, at least the other two are clean. (+10 Materials)
5: WILD CARD - You can find ONE item of your choice. It can be anything you think you would find in a university setting. Keep in mind that everyone has had a month to scavenge, so the pickings are slim! (+1 Material)
6: You manage to pry down a dry erase board. It's got to be good for something. (+1 Material)
7: You find a projector. Hurray? (+1 Material)
8: WILD CARD - You can find TWO items of your choice. It can be anything you think you would find in a university setting. Keep in mind that everyone has had a month to scavenge, so the pickings are slim! (+2 Materials)
9: There are a bunch of bells in a box. Three of them. We're not sure why. But there they are. (+3 Materials)
10: You find a bottle of alka-seltzer near a bottle of coke… (+1 Material)
11: WILD CARD - You can find ONE item of your choice. It can be anything you think you would find in a university setting. Keep in mind that everyone has had a month to scavenge, so the pickings are slim! (+1 Material)
12: You find a stack of boring looking books. Three of them. Might as well put them to some use. (+3 Materials)

- Pool your resources. Make a master list of what was found, including how many of them there are. These will be the materials you get to work with as a group!
- Continue on to Step Two.

Step One-Point-Five: Choose post order
- This can be done however you want! You must go in post order for step two.

Step Two - Makeshift Maintenance
- Hurray, you have materials! Now to put them to use.
- Each person in the group rolls a 1d10 in turn, until there are no materials left to use. Pooled materials will be used on a first chosen-first used basis.
- Match your rolls to the problems below, and do your best to fix them using the pooled materials your group rolled earlier! This means you get to be a little creative with how some of the items are used.
- Once a material is used, it can not be used a second time. Once it's used, it's gone!
1: You find a small hole in the wall. (Requires 1 material to fix)
2: WILD CARD - You find something to fix. What it is, is your choice. (Requires 2 materials to fix)
3: There is a slightly broken window. (Requires 1 material to fix)
4: This window is very broken. (Requires 2 materials to fix)
5: WILD CARD - You find something to fix. What it is, is your choice. (Requires 1 material to fix)
6: Some of the flooring is compromised, and has a foot-shaped hole in it. (Requires 1 material to fix)
7: There is a large hole in the wall. (Requires 2 materials to fix)
8: This floor is a mess. A whole person could fit down there (Requires 4 materials to fix)
9: WILD CARD - You find something to fix. What it is, is your choice. (Requires 1 material to fix)
10: One of the vents is open. It's a large vent. Someone could fit through it, unless you fix it. (Requires 2 material to fix)

- If you don't have enough items to finish the last fix - don't worry about it. Really. As long as all your materials are gone, this quest is considered complete!

Course Credits
- If you and your team mates complete this quest - meaning everyone has completed their dice rolls and has written at least 400 words - you all receive FIVE course credits.
- This is all or nothing - meaning all of you have to meet the criteria to get the credits. If one person doesn't finish this quest/word count, nobody gets it!
- Don't forget to link completed quests and earned credits in your journal!

The thought of patching up and reinforcing the buildings to prepare for another potential mob attack was a pretty good idea, and Dani liked the idea of setting up traps. How effective it would be though, she wasn't sure.
Still, she was going to give it her all, and was more than delighted that she was working with Opal again.
"We'll have to make sure we're prepared for the next attack, won't we?"
There was slight optimism in her voice as she smiled at the other woman.

The first thing she found was a tarp, which... might come in handy, if it weren't already completely worn and riddled with holes.
Next was a bucket, which... she supposed could have its uses. It was slim pickings for now, but when she looked harder, Dani was quite pleased to find a jaintor's cart. Why didn't they find this earlier?! This definitely would have come in handy.
She scrounged around some more, and managed to secure a box of bells, a bottle of alka-setzer and... coke.
Well ok.

Anything to help! That was Opal's plan, for the time being. Once they were safe and totally secure, they would be able to breathe a little easier. And this felt a lot more useful than dusting.

Plus, she got to spend some more time chatting with Dani.

"Yep," she agreed. "Be prepared for whatever comes at us, as best we can. It's really the only way to live."

She started looking around for materials. "You know," she said, "the best way to be ready for most things life throws at you is to know it won't kill you. Stay positive!" It was advice she'd often given her students. "There is always a silver lining, and all that." She held up a projector as she spoke. Hm? Odd thing, and utterly useless now. But it might be helpful.

Stopped talking then, because focusing on material gathering was taking all attention. A desk sat there, half broken already, and little Winnifred took some satisfaction in breaking it all the way. There. Two pieces of perfectly good wood! She next found another projector, this one even older than the first, and definitely broken. Still. It was something.

As she continued looking, she stumbled across a bucket...and then another desk. "This is sort of fun," she said as she kicked the thing into pieces.

"Ha, that's true. I believe the saying was: 'When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?'"
It was weird to be making jokes at a time like this, but it certainly helped put things in a lighter perspective.
She watched as Opal scavenged some items, making a note of the things they found.

"Hmm, so, we have 2 buckets, 2 desks, 2 pieces of wood, 2 projectors, a tarp, a janitor's cart, a box of bells, a bottle of alka-seltzer, and a bottle of coke. Not too sure what we can do with this list of items, but it's a start!"

Total materials: 16 + 7 = 23

It certainly was an interesting pile of things. "Oh well," Opal said. "I'm sure most of it can be useful." She glance around. "Alright. Let's see what we can get fixed up."

Hmmm. Oh! "Like this window!"

It was smallish and things, but possibly something could get it, considering how very smashed out all the glass was. Winnifred looked at the pile of goods they had.... Ah!

"Here, we just take this projector and fit in the square like so," she said, as she did so, "And then...." She took one of the towels off the janitor's cart and shoved it in next to the projector, to make it nice and snug. "There. All patched up. No like is getting in...but neither is anything else."

Dani watched as Opal fitted the projector and towel in the window, and smiled. Well, that would certainly help seal it. As for it being a functional window...
"Well, what's most important is keeping things out. I'd say that'd do the trick."
She looked around for something to fix as well, noticing a large vent. They'd need something big to plug it, hmm.
Grabbing the two pieces of wood Opal had found, she wedged them into place, blocking the opening.
"Hopefully that should do it!"

"Nice job!" Winnifred Opal nodded and Dani and her handiwork. "We are pretty good at this!"

She then turned to seeing what else she could fix. Ah. A hole in the wall. It was a small hole, but a hole nonetheless. It was just the right size... for Opal to wad up a garbage bag and stuff it in the hole. "There."

She grinned. They WERE a pretty good team, weren't they?
She couldn't help but laugh as Opal stuffed a garbage bag into the hole. That could certainly work.
Truth be told, these makeshift repairs probably wouldn't so much, but she supposed doing this helped take her mind off their impending doom.
"Hmm, maybe we should set some traps also. Dunno how effective it'll be, but we'll see."
A bell was taken from the box and placed on the ground.
"In case something comes by, we might hear it if they kick it."

"Oh, I like that," Opal said as Dani placed the bell. "We have to stay protected and vigilant, after all." She nodded as she looked around. They needed to make sure everything was extra safe.

"Look at this. The window didn't break, but it IS coming off of it's hinges." Opal shook her head. That would never do. She grabbed a bucket and walked to the window. She closed the window, and then spent the next 5 or so minutes jamming the bucket up against it's lock- it was a good thing it was a metal bucket, or else it would not have bent just right. But it was, and she was shoving all of her weight against it.

In the end, the bucket and window combo was basically just a window and a bucket...jammed in a window frame together, or something. "It...should stay closed..." She hoped it would.

"Haha, thanks. And yah. Little help reinforcing will do if we really are attacked by a whole horde of infecteds and undyings."
Which... she really hoped wouldn't happen but who knew.
She watched as Opal jammed a bucket into the window frame. Part of her wondered if this would help at all, but... well, it was better than nothing. They didn't have time to do proper repairs, so these makeshift ones would have to hold.
"It should, hopefully."
It was probably a good thing they weren't dealing with a horde of super smart zombies... right?

This time, she found a VERY broken window, and... hmm.
Pulling out the tarp they found, she spread it over the frame, and used the mop handle to wedge into the frame, hopefully keeping the tarp in place.
"This... is harder than it looks, isn't it?" she laughed nervously.

"It really is," Winnifred Opal agreed.

She was examining a very broken window, a twin to the one Dani had just patched up with the tarp.

"Hm." She grabbed the broken desks they had and jammed them into the frame. It was a good thing they were broken, because otherwise it would not have worked. "Might be a little breezy, but nothing should be able to get in through that." It was a mess, but a stuck mess.

"This building is pretty run down, isn't it?"

She laughed.
"It is, isn't it?"

Dani looked down to see the floor with a hole. A... foot-shaped hole. Oh geez, that wasn't made by her, was it?
Taking a garbage bag from the janitor's cart, she shoved it into the hole.
That... was a temporary makeshift solution. As long as no one stepped in the exact spot of the hole, it was ok, right?
