Free did not mean free when you had a little brother to look after. And Greta to look for. Every time she saw someone familiar she had to spin around. Nope, that old lady was too hunched over; that short kid was blue-haired; that nose had freckles.
None of them were her people.
So it was understandable that Monica nearly missed seeing a familiar face, on someone who somehow still was wearing a collar. "You!" she shrieked. "I mean - I mean - Shaun!" she said, in a calmer tone of voice. He was here. He was collared.
Oh no.

Shaun still felt wobbly, but whether that was from trying – and failing – not to think about the screaming and the woman and they boy, or from the effects of whatever crap they'd given him he couldn't tell. He wasn't as coordinated as usual as he tried to find some way to get out of this... some way to not... have this collar. To not be here.
He heard his name and he looked up, blank for a moment before summoning a small smile. “Oh. Hi.” he knew her, she was... “Monica!” at least it was a familiar face. At least it wasn't Joy Ann. “You... wouldn't happen to have a bunch of, um... coins, would you?” he asked, nervously. He didn't like the idea of playing more games of chance... theft? But he had a bad feeling about getting caught... cheating... at their game.

His face was rounder in his childhood, and elongated with puberty, but he still looks like the imp that he is and was, and his body is lean but muscular and very flexible. He has a cute teddy bear (or is it a monkey?) backpack that he uses to carry stuff in. Its really cute.
Shaun is mischevious, easygoing, and very friendly but he's also a little reckless by nature, especially when showing off his acrobatics. He needs people and does not do well alone, so he makes a great teammate and will be as helpful as possible, but ultimately he is out for himself.
"I have...fifteen?" she said, looking down at her cup. "But...but I think they'll get mad if I give them to you outright," she admitted. "Are you - did you just get here?" She looked him over. "But sometimes you can find them on the floor," she said in a loud whisper, cupping her free hand around her mouth. She certainly didn't want him to have to struggle to free himself, although with a price of 125 coins he would probably end up fine. She was pretty sure, anyway. "And I'd play - um - poker, maybe? If I were you?" She cocked her head. She thought it was a pretty good game, anyway, and it did have a net benefit for the players rather than the 'house'. Which was, in Monica's book, always a good thing.
"Have you...seen anyone else from Apple?" she asked, forcing a smile. If he'd just gotten here it wasn't likely that Cory or Greta were in his...uh, his batch, but still.
Actually, she'd much rather that Corgi was still over in zone one being oblivious and inattentive. Maybe if Shaun hadn't seen them she could pretend that was the case. But everyone else she'd met in Apple was here...
Not Greta, she reminded herself. That meant there was hope, right? Some people were smart enough to stay behind and...guard the prison?
Who knew?

“I didn't get here that long ago...” he said, rubbing the collar vaguely. Okay poker, poker he could totally do. And finding things on the floor. And... maybe... making coins 'fall' onto the floor. “I'll take you up on that, though.” he said, nodding. He'd have to do something, and...
“Well, I saw a few.” he said, looking around. How many were from the prison, here? “No one I knew too well though, cept for... I saw Diana.” he nodded. Yes, Diana. Thank god for her. “And, um... No, nobody else. Yet. There's a lot of people here... Have you seen Joy Ann? Autumn?” Granny Though, of course, he wouldn't expect someone from his faction to know where Granny Smith was. Or even that the superwoman lady existed...
“Are you...” she had no collar. Hmm. “Are you okay?” he asked, forcing his fingers away from the bright-flashing lit collar...

Monica grinned. "Well, I'm glad to know you're alive, even if now you're stuck...here..." Her voice tapered off near the end of the sentence: it felt really weird being free, and talking to someone who wasn't free. And who might die, if they didn't band together. "I haven't seen - well, I've seen Diana; she's everywhere - I haven't seen Joy Ann, but I think Noah bought her and Autumn," Monica admitted. "So they should be fine! Safe! For now, anyway."
Wow, Monica sure did feel like she was kind of leaking words right now. But it was hard to think straight when so many people she cared about were still in precarious situations. "I'm sure you'll be safe, too, soon - you should see if you can't find the Boss! He's been trying to help people out, and he's a lot sneakier than I am." Or for some reason the attendants were ignoring that he was just handing people coins. Either way, it was a good thing.
"I'm fine!" Monica grinned. "Well, as fine as can be, in the circumstances - I managed to save up enough to buy myself through poker and...and finding coins on the floor, and slots." She'd also tried to play blackjack, but it hadn't been a very profitable venture for her. "But I haven't seen my brother, or my friend Greta - the laundry lady?"

Shaun shuddered.
So they had been here. Had, and had been freed. “Oh, good.” he said, relieved. He had to go thank this 'Noah' person, somehow. Which begged the question. “Who is Noah?” he asked, curiously. He wasn't sure if he'd heard the name around or not. There were a lot of names and a lot of things to think about.
The boss though... yeah, that was a better option than hitting the poker tables. The boss was an awesome guy. Shaun knew he'd probably have to do a favor for him (even if the boss didn't ask, it was just respectful to do so) but so be it, he did not want this collar, he did not want to be here.
“I haven't seen them.” he said, shaking his head. “I could search with you, though, if you wanted.” It would be good to have company, and maybe she could help him find Boss at the same time... Or a poker table he could... swindle? He could do that, maybe, possibly, oh god he hoped so. “I wouldn't mind...” not being alone “Looking with you, and two eyes are better than one, right?”
