Maybe once in his whole life, the old man had been in a casino. To end up in one after life as he knew it had fallen apart... Well, he had suspended enough disbelief adapting to the undying and infected, wandering with the others into the casino was merely one more step forward. He exchanged a scowling, incredulous glance for 50 coins. Were any of those 'fantastic prizes' going to help him survive, or was this reeking, smoke-filled building just a distraction for people who didn't want to believe in their reality?

John was not interested in the games, but he sat himself down at a table anyway, with an unfamiliar man dealing out cards. He only knew the basics of some card games, but this one, blackjack, required minimal assistance. He tried to question the dealer while cards were laid out, but the other man had no information for him. The old man wasn't interested in playing games, and left the table shortly after the first round.

The noise and smoke and flashing lights was making the old man feel dizzy, an unfamiliar experience for one so robust... Yet when he came to it all made sense. Of course. The crazy setting, the coins, the games, it had to be for someone's benefit, clearly at the cost of the unwary.
The old man seethed with anger. He sat silently, refusing to offer more than a glare in anyone's direction. Of all the things he had seen since s**t hit the fan, this was by far the worst of them. Since he was being made to participate in some small way, he nodded at the young man. What happened next was so fast, the old man hadn't even had a chance to react. He watched as the young lady was dragged off, and then the kid was gunned down, and he swore to a thousand gods that if he ever came face to face with that damn announcer he would shove an axe down the man's gullet.
With a growl he stormed back into the general casino area, the only thing keeping him from bashing some heads was the obviously superior weaponry carried by the guards. Now he knew they weren't there to keep the undying out. They were there to keep the 'players' in.
Rather than immediately going to find more coins and buy his freedom the way the game wanted, he scanned the area, looking for a familiar face.
