The Lie: Penny was not born through normal means. She was created when an ancient star was absorbed into a spirit shortly after colliding with it. That spirit took the form of a human child despite its true nature as a celestial being unlike any other. Initially she was found and cared for my an old monk. The monk easily knew what she was having seen the events first hands. He knew the dangers of her abilities if they were left untamed or if she lashed out with a truly powerful emotions. He decided it was best her powers sealed until she matured or through other means of unsealing. The sealing took the mans life and left this small little being alone. She took on the identity of Penelope May Vaughn, a name she decided on after reading the name on a strange rock in a rather strange place. The name belonged to the old monks youngest niece who died of disease, Penny had only head stories of a tragedy but was unaware of the story tied to the name she had taken on.
The Truth:
Penelope Vaughn is a fragment of what remains from a great war in another time and place. She is a single spiritual fragment of the essence that was a grand world once known as Renascentia. The goddess Aetherius, or Vesperia, depending on location within the world had been locked in combat with the great destroyer, a son of Pavor, and the harbinger of the end: Nagakynd. She is a fragment of Vesperia that remained after the binding of Nagakynd in Pavor's Bow and just before all consciousness was lost the deity reincarnated a fragment of herself so Renascentia was not entirely lost to the ruins Pavor's kin had made. The fragment that is Penelope Vaughn is the love of life and beauty in nature that survived. She is the shard that held the love of Renascentia's creatures and citizens. When she came crashing to the planet her crystallized essence struck the heart of a dying girl.
The girl's spirit was gone but the body was new and Vesperia was able to revive it to full health. The miracle amazed her family and the townsfolk who had seen the shooting star the night before. She was called the 'heavens blessed', at least until her family members passed on and she was left alone by age eight. The female ran into the woods where she in time became friends with the local wild life. Her kindness extended to the rare creatures that hid in the shadows around Zaibatsu as well. She declared herself the guardian of the forest and animals. Those who moved to harm either without just cause as food or lodging were punished. The behavior led her to meet several people as well as learn of the 'idols' of Zaibatsu's youth. Granted, while she knows their names she lacks the interest to 'fangirl' often too busy with a stray fan or two of her own. Then again, when a girl rides through the gates on a dire wolf or other mythical - class creature it does grab attention.
