RULES OF THIS GAME:
[ Step 1]: - You may play this solo or with [up to five people! If you wish to invite other players, put [ OPEN ] at the top of your post. This means you are open for inviting other players. All players may now come in, and roll in whatever order they wish, you really don't have to wait for players to get your rolls in! Tally sums accordingly. The group RP portion is really for thread recycling and if you want to chat with each other.
Label your thread [ BLACKJACK RP] (PLAYERS HERE). You can play cross faction, obviously! Remember MINIMUM 1 players MAX 5 players!
The player who made the thread is responsible for closing it when finished.
[ Step 2]: All players must now roll 2d12 and make their FIRST POST in that thread. This equals the CARDS they have on their hands where 1= Ace, 11 = Jack, 12 = Queen. There are no kings. Edit your OOC accordingly with your hand. Make a post regarding your hand/entering the thread/ etc. SUM up the value of these cards in your OOC.

[ Step 3]: Look at your hand combination. Your goal is to get as close to 21 as possible (19 to 21 to win!). You may now choose to HIT THE DECK. If you wish to do so, roll 1d12. ADD that card value to your deck. This is optional.
If you somehow hit over the value of 21 in this draw, it is GAME OVER. You lose [ -5 casino coins ]. You are out of this game. If you wish to "give up", you may do so and take only [ -1 casino coins ] as penalty. This will prevent you from going over 21 (in case your total value, currently for example, is 18, and you do not want to draw another card). You are out of this game.
Don't forget to RP this post accordingly as well as update your OOC.
[ Step 4]: Look at your hand combination. Your goal is to get as close to 21 as possible (19 to 21 to win!). You may now choose to HIT THE DECK AGAIN. If you wish to do so, roll another 1d12. ADD that card value to your deck. This is optional.

Lennard found himself wandering the casino floor in search of how to earn more coins. Coming to a hault, he took inventory a particular table, labeled as Blackjack. Now there was a game he hadn't played before in quite some time. The blackjack table was calling too him. In truth, Lenny had always been into playing cards. While these weren't exactly the kind he was thinking of it was still a type of game just the same. Glancing around the area, Lennard took in a quick breath looking around to see if he recognized anyone around the table.
It was hard given so many people were mingling about the casino. However his eyes did pick up on one particular face he'd encountered a few times in the hall ways on his routine jogs. The petite girl was just shorter than himself, and had light caramel brown hair. A small grin pulled at the redheads face as he approached the female in question. A pang of guilt rang through him; he didn't know her name right off the bat he sucked with names.
However she was another Apartment member without question, and a familiar friendly face in this sea of crazy bullshit.
He was fairly certain that she was from around the 10th floor. The more he thought about it, Lennard realized he was pretty damn sure he actually did know her name but it was a nickname, not her full given one. "Ah! Wait a sec I do know you! Mel? Is that you?" He called out, his voice loud as he questioned her name. Lennard took a step forward, squinting at her just a bit. After-all he'd suffered head trauma just the other night, he didn't really trust his vision 100% just yet.
Blackjack could wait just a moment; he wanted to make sure he wasn't mistaking her identity.

Mel had been staring down a neighboring table full of people playing the dreaded game, Blackjack. She was giving the dealer the stink eye as she watched the entire table go bust in one move, and she was about to call cheating when someone caught her attention. The voice was only vaguely familiar but when she turned to see who it was she easily put a name to the face and head of rich, red hair. She gave a smile and small wave as he approached. "Len," she said in a more sober tone than she would have normally used. All the stress that came with this casino was...exhausting, to say the least. Traumatizing was another word that came to mind, but what about their new reality wasn't traumatizing in some way, anyway?
Shoot, the last place they passed through before this particular hellhole had grenades being thrown at them.
And she preferred Len over Lenny; it seemed more suited to his look: large and athletically built. Lenny just had more of a teenager feel to it, so she just went with Len. He looked a bit confused with his squinty and she couldn't place why, but she waved a bit to get his attention in case he couldn't see well for whatever reason. Lorena had gotten some sort of vision problem the previous day and she wouldn't be surprised to find others with the same problem either.
"Everything okay?" she asked, concern trickling into her tone of voice.

Lennard looked relieved as he heard the familiar nickname. She was one of the few who actually called him by Len, verse his childhood nickname. He was actually rather grateful for it, but of course had kept that to himself and thanked her with a wide grin back when she'd insisted on referring to him as such in the beginning. However she sounded just as stressed as he felt. Lennard had taken it out by shouting and growling at the machines as he made his way around trying to earn his fair. His serious look relaxed as he flashed an easy going smile.
"I'm glad to see you're in one piece." He cast a glance over his shoulder; back towards the door from the "orientation" he'd been given.
The waving actually helped, when he looked back at her. It made her that much more real. He blinked once or twice as he focused on her facial features. "Yeah, kinda. I'm lucky I can see I couldn't yesterday. I woke up this morning and it was like it hadn't happened." He gestured towards the gash that was already mostly closed up.
"Have you been told about this hellhole's true motives?" He frowned, concern for her well-being. Had she been forced to make some other version like a choice he had? The idea made his stomach knot. She may have been a gorgeous girl, but she had to be tough as nails to make it this far and still be standing. It was down right exhausting going through all this. "Rather, what about you? Are you okay?" Len asked with a note of concern hinted in his tone.
Stepping in just closer, he put them within arm’s reach of each other.

Aha, so it was a vision thing. Lucky guess on her part, but she stopped her waving just as he finished explaining the reason for his squinting.
"Yeah, I had a fracture in my good arm that also healed up way too quickly," she said, eyes cast down and focused on the strip of scar tissue that was forming on her right arm. It was the only proof there was of her injury, otherwise besides a bit of soreness there was nothing else to suggest she broke her arm even slightly. It also kept her mind off of the fact that he was staring at her; sure, because of his vision loss, but staring was staring.
His question had her shake her head and finally look up at him. "Nope, and honestly I don't wanna know. The word 'dinner' comes to mind and just...freaks me out, so." Nope, she wasn't gonna go there. Nope. His next couple of questions then got a shrug from her.
How was she? Well...in truth, ambiguous at best. Not that she expected someone to understand such a vague feeling. "I'm managing, I guess," she said softly as a hand went absently to the unwanted "accessory." "About as well as the next person who still has one of these around their neck. I'm getting closer though, at 89 coins."
Her blue eyes settled on the number he had on his collar, and frowned. "You?"

Lennard realized he was actually staring directly at her and muttered an apology under his breath. He momentarily felt guilty regardless of the reason why. His eyes traveled to her arm when she mentioned it had been fractured, but had healed at a rapid pace. "I wonder if it's something around here causing that.." His voice trailed off as he pursed his lips not really sure what would even cause such a thing. It sounded like mystic mumbo jumbo to him.
He didn't spare her more details; he was glad that was all she'd gotten from the occasion. A joke about dinner. "Yeah, better off not looking too closely into it." He agreed. The blood splatter and screams could be his own private hell.
When she touched the collar around her neck he frowned at the high number. There was some relief hearing she had 89 coins thus far however. "Hm..Yea you are getting there." Len encouraged, with a nod. Fishing around in his pockets when she inquired, he looked surprised. Len had more coins than he'd realized. "87 it looks like, so pretty close." He was more concerned she still had a decent amount left to go.
His eyes traveled to the Blackjack table. "Maybe we can try our luck and get a few extra? I mean, I came over here to give it a go, may as well have good company while doing so." Len smiled softly at her. His eyes traveled to the dealer, momentarily shooting him a dirty look.
“With any luck we might just get that much closer.” Lennard added with a small smile and a optimistic note to his voice.

Oh, she'd seen her own private sort of hell as well. Granted, it was mostly because a kid had been...careless. But she wasn't about to go and share that; the last thing anyone needed was more morbid and traumatizing stories to add onto what she was sure was a growing stockpile of them. Mel had more than a lifetime's share of it, at least for someone as average as her.
She nodded along, appreciating the encouragement and taking it with a grain of salt. She was trying to be careful of the tables; someone mentioned they could be rigged or the deals could be cheating, so being mindful couldn't hurt. At the idea of trying a hand at Blackjack she glanced over at the tables and, with a curious tilt of her head she made an audible "hmm" as she thought about it. She'd lost spectacularly the last time...but...
"Alright," she said as she made a move toward one of the tables. "Worse that could happen is we could lose a few coins, right?" And then never reach their goal, and then possibly be killed. Or enslaved. Or worse...but she didn't want to think too much about what could be worse than death or slavery.

Lennard followed her as she went to move closer to the tables. He was uncertain if he even liked the idea of this, but what choice did he have? If he just sucked it up and tried he might have a bit of success. "Yeah, we'll see what happens. Lady luck runs on a whim." He chuckled, shaking his head.
Glancing back at her with a momentarily uncertain look on the red heads face, his gaze traveled back to the Blackjack dealer as he stepped forward, willing to try it first on this particular go around. "Let's play eh?" Len's smile was fleeting.
The dealer remained stoic as he shuffled his cards, gaze traveling between the two of them. When the redhead spoke up first, he slid him two cards and waited for their next move, silently with the utmost patience's
His eyes scanned the card, struggling for a moment to make out what they were. The jack of hearts and four of diamonds had been what he was handed. They equaled a value of 16. He didn't really know the meaning of those cards, he'd look it up in one of the countless books he had lying around his apartment used to enhance his DnD sessions among other material to entertain those who attended. His fingers drummed idly as his mind began calculating the risks of what landing on winning numbers between 19-21 vs if he pushed for another card.
He'd sit on the decision for a moment or two before he asked for another hit or decided to count his losses and call it. Lennard's green eyes traveled to Mel curious what she'd end up with.

Mel took a seat beside Len and nodded at the dealer, a weak smile on her face as well. She wasn't all that confident about her gambling abilities, but the nice thing about gambling was there was always a chance at winning. So when her two cards were dealt to her she careful picked them up and sighed, wondering if it was safe to hit the deck on her next turn. The last times she busted with a 16 and 15 respectively, so this was...maybe safer?
A glance at the overly patient dealer made her a bit wary. Too calm? Too quiet? Were all dealers like that? She didn't want to hazard a nudge at Len in case they would think they were cheating or something, so she could only glance over at him briefly before going back to her hand. Decision, decisions...

His eyes narrowed on the card as it was shown. s**t. 7 of Clubs. He'd busted. It was over by two, but 23 was still not the best thing to land on. Making a face he glared as he poney'd up his hit. "Well, that went swell." He wasn't about to be a sore looser, so instead he closed his mouth.
Lennard leaned back in his seat and pursed his lips. He wasn't about to play again, there was other games he could attempt. His gaze traveled to Mel, unable to communicate with her but he saw her glance at the patient guy.
He was ******** creepy. Lennard raised a brow at the guy, appraising him trying to size him up. Or at least get some kind of read on him. He was pretty good at that, but even he wasn't sure he realy wanted to know in reality. Lennard shrugged as he sat back. The young man rubbed the back of his head ruffling his red hair before dropping his hands back in his lap.

"Hit me..." she said a bit weakly, and picked the card up that was dealt to her. King. She busted.
She nearly head-desked when she hung her head so low and a grumbling sort of sigh escaped her. After she gathered herself enough she dropped her cards and five coins before she got up out of her seat, frowning at Len. He'd busted as well, so she wasn't sure why she thought she'd have any more luck than he did. Especially considering her history with the game...
"I don't think another game is a good idea," she said, casting a suspicious glance over at the dealer. "But I'll stick around if you wanted to play another round?

Lennard watched as she slid out of her seat and stood beside him. He leaned back just a bit turning to face her. "Maybe not, yeah… Hm. We can try this maybe just once more?" His eyes traveled from the dealer back to the caramel haired woman. She seemed so frustrated, who could blame her really? Lennard felt protective over her, much the same way he did various other tenants of the apartments. Especially given she had moved slightly behind him.
"I'll stick around for one more game with you; we'll walk away if it's another flop?" Set a limit and play within your means. If they played this game sparingly they'd have a chance. God he hoped so.
"I've got your back." Lennard pulled out the chair directly beside him, gesturing for Mel to sit if she'd like. "Deal?" He asked their silent creeper friend.
The dealer slid him two new cards after shuffling. This time he was passed the 8 of Hearts and a 2 of Clubs. So 10 for this deal! Lennard frowned, contemplating if he should try and press his luck.

Mel sighed and took a seat, though not before she slid it back to its proper place. No way would she risk the dealer accusing them of cheating...somehow...so she would keep the proper distance between their chairs. Once seated she nodded again at the dealer, who dealt another two cards to her. Upon seeing her hand, though, she really did head-desk this time, groaning into the felt-covered table.
"Bust," she said weakly. "Bust on the first draw, Len," she went on, then after a minute longer of her groaning she sat back up and placed the cards, and five coins, down as calmly as she could manage.
Nope. Blackjack was not her game. That was proof enough for her, and she probably wouldn't bother playing it again until someone tried really, really, really hard to convince her otherwise.

Lennard's fingers drummed in a quick tapping motion of annoyance on the card table. He decided to take a risk and not pull back.
He heard Mel's groan and looked at her with a worried frown. Wow she really hadn't been kidding about her back luck with this game.
"Ah Mel...that ******** sucks." He muttered quietly as he made eye-contact with the dealer. He'd been passed a 2 of Hearts. Staring at his total of 12 he weighed his options.

Hesitantly he leaned in and gently tapped with his knuckle against the table. "Hit me." Lennard requested, feeling the tension in his shoulders. The odds where in his favor, a 9 in 12 chance of not going bust. If he got a 7-9 he'd win. The gamer chewed on his lip as he waited.
Instantly Lennard regretted the decision. Groaning in frustration he passed back his cards not even bothering to study the suit card. Looking over to Mel he sighed his chin dropping into his palm.
"Well...at least we gave it a shot." He added with a frown, and a small wispy sigh. "You were right Mel." Len smiled suddenly, chuckling softly despite the stress of the occasion. "Want to take a brief walk and head somewhere else maybe?" He offered, his smile fading as he moved to stand stretching his arms over his head before letting them drop at his side.
