An attendant had come and removed his collar, informing him brightly that he had been 'purchased' and was free to go. There was only one goddamn person who would give up so much money on his worthless hide. And once he found her, he was gonna shake her until she saw sense!
The man stalked through the casino in a fury, rudely elbowing people out of his way as he hunted down the one woman in the world who would do something so stupid. She should have picked herself, should have gotten the ******** out of this place! "Lola!" Al bellowed, his eyes flashing. She best ******** believe he was angry!
As soon as he spotted the woman, he made a beeline towards her, reaching out to grab her by the shoulder. "Lola, what the ******** are you playing at?" He demanded, but there was something very much like fear behind all of that anger. "You should have gotten the hell out!"
His grip tightened on her shoulders, as though afraid she'd slip away from him. "I won't let these bastards have you. I can't stand it, Lola! Why didn't you buy yourself?!"

She'd been staring at the floor, desperately searching for any more wayward coins that could have made their way under a machine, someone's foot...anywhere, really. There wasn't a place she refused to look through, at this point. Ashtrays, bathrooms - anywhere for a spare coin so she could start her slow trek back up the ladder to trying to snag her freedom from the Collar of Death.
When she heard the roar, she knew she'd been found out. The rough hand on her shoulder spun her around and she worked up the courage to look back up at her much-taller husband.
They had shared several arguments - fights, honestly - over their years of marriage. She knew he'd be mad (and clearly, he was) but she also knew it was going to be tough to talk to him afterwards, once he found out.
And, judging by the lack of collar around his neck, he certainly found out.
She rested one hand on top of his, her soft fingers gently rubbing his calloused, rough skin. Her voice was quiet, but firm.
"Do you really think I could buy myself and leave you here?"

"Yes!" He thundered, growing louder and more angry in response to her calm, no-nonsense tone. "You should have ran out the damn door and never looked back!" It didn't matter that, logically, if he'd seen her do such a thing,a tiny piece of his heart would have broken. It didn't matter that he knew damn well he'd have bought her first before himself. What mattered is that she was still in danger, and Al wouldn't stand for it. He'd always been a hypocrite in that sense.
"Woman," It was a growl. "You're gonna tell them you made a goddamn mistake and that you want to buy yourself instead." If he was firm enough, maybe he could make her back down on this. They could both dig their heels in like the two most stubborn jackasses in the world, but this was a fight Al was determined to win.
It terrified him that he might not.

"You want me to go over and ask a bunch of psychos for a refund?" She raised one eyebrow, daring to give him a smirk. There had been a time for tears, but that time had passed. Her choice had been made and like hell was she going to change her mind on it. "Not on your life. Literally speaking."
Her other hand rose, this time to remove the hand from her shoulder entirely. Taking the opportunity, with his arm still stretched out, the shorter woman drew forward, pressing herself into him as her own arms moved to wrap around his broad form. Clinging tightly, she took in a deep breath, inhaling his familiar, comforting scent.
"You're a bigger dummy than I thought if you expected me to walk out that door without you holding my hand."
Giving him another squeeze, she buried her face in his chest. "I can't live without you, sugar. I don't think you realize that."

Despite himself, despite everything, Al felt some of his tension dissipate as Lola pressed herself close. He gave her a rough squeeze, his chin resting lightly on the top of her head even as a soft, weary sigh spilled from his lungs. She wasn't going to give this up, no matter what he said. The realization was enough to have the fight drain out of him, even if his sour mood still lingered.
"Yeah, well. That makes two of us." Al said gruffly, releasing the woman from his hold. "Come on. We've got more damn coins to find." And not enough time in the world.

She smiled at his words, keeping her head lowered, facing the ground, to keep him from seeing her expression and getting even more frustrated. He wasn't happy and she knew it, but she also knew that he would have done the exact same for her in a heartbeat. He was her Al and she was his Lola. That's just how things were between them. Sure, they had their differences in the past. He'd shake her up, she'd smack him. They weren't the sweetest of couples, but at the end of the day, they sure as hell loved each other.
As he stormed off to one of the tables, she tagged along after him, mindful to examine the ground around them in search of any spare coins to snatch up.
