He was still a little unsteady on his feet, but October was slogging through the casino, slouched at one of the tables by the left side. It was a poker table - or at least, he thought it might have been - but he wasn't playing, just sitting with his umbrella leaning against his side, fingers idly tapping at it.

He was unusually quiet, his head bowed, hair falling in front of his face.

Taking a small break from coin gathering, Brie was searching for a place to calm her nerves, away from any of the assholes running this joint.

On her way over, it was then she spotted a very familiar, and very tired October Flynn. If it was even possible to think, he appeared more drained of energy then usual. Maybe the stress of this place and the stress of having to try and keep his faction safe was getting to him?

Quietly moving over to join him, Brie places her hand upon his shoulder, bending over slightly to get a look at his face. "You holding up okay?" Was anyone though?

October was not an emotional person, not really - or at least, he pretended not to be. He'd been raised well, he'd been treated well, and he'd had a good life so far. He knew how to take care of himself, and he knew how to take care of others, even if half of the time all it looked like he was doing was sleeping (which he was).

But he felt awkward now, tiredness seeping into his bones. October ran his fingers through his hair and felt a hand on his shoulder, his head twisting up to see who it was. Brie's familiar face came into view and he leaned back with a sigh, stretching out his legs in front of him.

"Just peachy," he said, which wasn't true in the slightest. October patted the seat next to him.

"Wanna join me?"

Concern was written on her face, as she claimed the open seat beside him. Everyone had it rough, but she couldn't imagine how the faction leaders felt right now. There was only so many people they could save..

"Talk to me." With everything going on, they must have a lot of emotions boiling up inside, and if she could help, even a little by lending an ear, she would. Though it was hard to say if October would choose to talk her. She had only known him a month, and she had yet to see him open up to anyone in their faction.

"Anything you need to talk about, just get it off your chest. I don't know if you'll feel better after, but let me share some of your burden."

Once Brie was seated, October wasted no time in slouching against her, because he was nothing if not catlike, and he did enjoy leaning against people - especially if they were Brie or Alex, simply because he knew they wouldn't push him away. It may have only been a month, but it was a month spent in close quarters with everyone in the building. He knew them better than he knew his own parents.

A light laugh escaped him, though it lacked humor, October toying with his umbrella.

"Did you see that girl and boy?" he mumbled, gazing out in front of him, but not seeing anything in particular. "The ones when you woke up?"

Petting his head lightly when he leaned against her, Brie rested her cheek lightly atop his head. Out of all the people in her faction, there were only a few whom she had warmed up to. October was one of those people. Being around him was soothing, and he was the perfect person to go to if you needed company but not the exhaustion of trying to keep up with them. Just casual small stalk.

At his question, she paused, nodding soon after. "Yes.." swallowing, Brie sucked in a break, soon exhaling. "I remember." Something like that.. How could she not remember that? Whoever that boy was.. after seeing him dragged off in that fashion, and hearing talk of the radio of what these people might be.. He wasn't coming back from that.

"From what it sounded like, everyone was forced to go through the same sort of initiation. What happened for you?" She knew the girl survived, but what happened if you picked someone else? Was every choice bad?

He closed his eyes and sighed out a sound that might have been one of displeasure, or maybe it was one of frustration. Either way, October just let himself lean against Brie and soak up her presence, his gloved fingers pushing the umbrella back and forth against his legs in a restless manner.

"There was...well, I chose the kid," he mumbled. "He looked like he was just...you know, really young. I figured he'd be the best choice, but there was all this screaming and there was just blood everywhere, and ******** damn it, Brie, I think they killed both of them in the end."

He couldn't even be sure. His head was hazy with the details, October not even wanting to deal with them. He'd left the room trying hard to put it behind him, to keep things orderly so that he could do the best he could for Zelda and for the others in his faction.

He hadn't meant to cause an outburst. October sighed and put a hand to his face, rubbing at his brow.

"I just want everyone to get out of here safely, don't you?" he murmured.

October didn't even need to finish his sentence for her to know where his story would lead. She knew these people were sick, but for them to kill both after choosing one to live? It wasn't a choice at all, it was a setup. "Its not your fault." She said, now hugging lightly, in hopes to comfort him. "You were forced into that situation. We all were."

Just how long had these people even been doing this to others? hundreds of people must have been forced into that Godawful scene, and there was no right answer to whatever they did. Someone was going to die.

Although she saved the woman, there was no way of knowing if she even was kept alive. For all they knew, it was all just for show. "I.. I'm pretty sure I got someone killed too. They dragged him into the other room, and.. well.. you know." There was no need for explanation. He had been subject to that exact same horror.

"We'll get them out, October. If I have to play these stupid casino games all day and night, we'll get them out." As much as she wanted to believe that, she knew it was unlikely. But they had to at least try. Maybe some of their faction had even succeeded in earning their freedom already?

"Just promise me you won't sacrifice yourself. I don't know if you've been thinking it, and I really hope you haven't, but out of all the people from our faction, only a few of our people feel like family to me. You're one of those people. So please, don't do anything reckless."

He knew, somewhere, that it wasn't his fault. But at the same time, it wasn't so easy to get over that guilt that would wrack him constantly about it, his head warring with the rest of him to try and come to a good balance, and yet it was too hard.

Brie's hug soothed him a little, October's eyes fluttering half lidded. He nuzzled his head into her shoulder, sighing, and tried not to think about how others had been subjected to the same things that he had. The screams that echoed in his head were still there, reverberating throughout his thoughts, the acrid scent of blood in his nose.

But she had read him, even if she didn't know it. October couldn't look at her, turning his head slightly away so that his hair slid down his back and shoulder, half covering his face from view. A sigh ebbed out of him, and, as always, he tried to pretend that everything was fine.

Cover it up with a joke.

"I wouldn't do that," October mumbled, which was a blatant lie, but the fact that Brie thought of him as family made him feel warm and fuzzy inside. He had thought the same, in spite of his repeated attempts at keeping his emotions out of the equation.

"If I get of here, can I have a kiss?" he deadpanned, because back to jokes, back to acting casual about everything.

"No?" She asked, knowing full well that he was lying through his teeth. Even if he would never admit it, October was too kind for his own good, and always put others before himself. At least that's how she saw him. If they were too lose him to this.. She wouldn't allow it.

A little relieved to see some humor in there, Brie managed a laugh of her own, squeezing another hug out of him. "Of course! You can have one now too!" She grinned planting a small peck on his cheek.

All kidding aside. She was going to have to keep an eye on him.

"No," said October, absolutely lying through his teeth. If he needed to stay behind in order to get the rest of them out, well...

But Brie didn't need to know about that. No one did. He sagged against her, and may or may not have blushed, just the smallest amount, at the kiss to his cheek, a little smile worming its way onto October's face. He patted her arm affectionately.

"Thanks, you," he said, and slanted his head against hers.

For a moment, he was silent, and then he mumbled,

"Me too. You know. For the family thing."

"Good." He was a good person, but a terrible liar, or rather she knew him all to well to know how he would act. If she had to, she would have to stop him personally.

Nodding, Brie gave the boy a bright smile, pleased to know that she may of helped cheer him up, at least a little. Her smile only widened when he mentioned feeling the same way on them being like family.

"Do you need help with anything before we get back to work?"

He knew Brie probably didn't believe him, but there was nothing to be done about that; October was immensely stubborn, and he would do what he had to do, in the end. If the faction getting out safely meant that he had to give up something in return, well...

"Yes," said October, in a tragic voice. "Brie.

"There's no place to nap."

Clearly October was feeling just fine.

Brie almost snorted at his response, which was soon replaced by genuine worry. "Wait- no! October! You can't sleep in a place like this!" The last time any of them passed out, they woke up in a strange room and were forced to play a death game.

Shaking him lightly, as if to wake the sleep out of him, she leaned forward to look him in the eyes. "Promise me: you won't fall asleep here. At least not until I get back and can make sure nothing happens to you! Okay? Promise?" She asked, holding out her pinkie.

Yes, she was totally making him pinkie promise.

"But Brie," October whispered, looking despondent. "Naps are important. How am I supposed to get through my day without a good nap?"

Not that he wanted to wake up in danger yet again, but...

She was staring at him in that intent way, and October shrank back away from her, cowering in on himself. He looked suspiciously at her pinkie and then back up at her face, somewhat relieved that this was the promise she was trying to make him accept. Still...

He sighed heavily.

"Promise," October mumbled, and linked his pinky with hers.
