“Always glad to see you alive, Caroline,” he smiled, swirling the cocktail in his hand. If this was going to be his end, at least he'd make the best out of it.
The cocktail tasted terrible, or maybe he just wasn't an alcohol man.
“They've quite rightly valued you higher than me I see,” he set the glass back down on the table and leaned onto it, “And perhaps it should be higher, you still look to be in the twenties.” It was a feeble attempt to lighten up the situation, and that he may have also been a bit too loose-lipped because of the alcohol.
“Save the children, Caroline,” he gestured to his cache of coins, “I'd be happy if the spare change could bail out another two or three.”

"The same goes for you," Caroline replied, gently clinking the edge of her glass against his before he had time to set it down again. Preferring to keep her hands free - or busy with something more beneficial than just a drink - she finished what remained of hers and slid it onto an empty table. His flattery earned a laugh, as it would have even if she hadn't been drinking, and she extended her hand to momentarily touch the illuminated numbers on his collar. "No, your number isn't quite right either," she lamented, for entirely different reasons. "You're worth the same as the children, anyway. I understand the sentiment. You're just...well. I think you've forgotten your value." She fell briefly silent, taking a cursory look over the room before her eyes turned back to him. "You know, Peter..." She sounded very clearly up to something. "There's plenty else that hasn't changed since my twenties."

Peter drew back unconsciously as she reached out to him, but stopped as she touched his collar, pausing to stare at her.
“Hm,” he murmured, “In some ways, yes.”
He reached out for his half-finished cocktail, picking it up but not taking sip.
“It's just that, well, I feel sorry for them...” he fiddled with the glass, swirling its contents about.
“They're so young.”
The glass was set down on the table, untouched. He folded his arms, letting them rest on the table as he cast a brief look over the rest of the room.
“I was just imagining that if I had a child, they'd be about that age too...” His train of speech and thought was interrupted by her change of tone.
“Caroline...” were all the words he could offer.

The ways that Caroline perceived him undervaluing himself, over and over again, were more than what she could just qualify as 'some'. She intended to protest this fact, and had already opened her mouth to do so, when he remarked about how young they were. And she understood that. Her gaze fell when he spoke about the way he saw them. Children who would have been the same age as his own children, if he'd had any. She wished she didn't understand that so fully. "We missed out in that way," she murmured, soft and sympathetic, trying hard to prevent her eyes from turning away from his. "But these are ours. We take care of them. Like our own, in the end." That was about as far as she was willing to go on that subject, before she lost herself beyond the line of what kept her functioning. If she couldn't function, she couldn't help them. Besides, it was much more fun if... "So we missed out on one thing." Her hand settled against one of his folded arms in an attempt to unwind them. "That doesn't mean...well, you shouldn't miss out on more..."

Day 2 Location: Casino
Peter Kim: heart heart heart Difficulty: gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star -not gotten laid in a while - - - Peter remained silent as he listened, eyes downcast as she spoke of the students. It was funny, how he had started to think of them in that way too. As soon as her hand touched him, the lights suddenly went dim where they sat, and the band beside them started to play a tune.
♫Hands, touchin' hands / Reachin' out, touchin' me, touchin' you♫
“Caroline I-” he stopped to look at her, his uninjured arm returning the touch. The moment lingered as the music continued to play.
♫Sweet Caroline Good times never seemed so good I've been inclined To believe they never would But now I...♫
“I think you've had too much to drink,” he drew his arm back and stood up from his seat.
“And I think I have, too...” Leaning in, he planted a kiss on her cheek, stopping to look at her before turning to move away. - - - Do you: >Stop him. xxxxxxxx>Ask him to dance xxxxxxxx>Go in for a real kiss >Let him go. >Other lmao idk???

[ Caroline] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Is the band playing a song about me? They are playing a song about me! | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wait, why had he stopped touching her?! He'd only just started touching her! She frowned, brow knit with confusion as he stood up and began to move away. Surely she hadn't gotten the wrong impression. He picked the nine. It meant something special. Something that she knew well before they ever came to the casino, and certainly before she ever had a drink. ----------------- | ▶ Stop him. ^| | Let him go. . | ----------------- "Peter," she huffed out in faint frustration. "That's--drinks have nothing to do with this." In an act of what was now nothing less than sheer desperation, she grabbed him by the sleeve to stop him, and pulled him into a kiss. It was nowhere near as chaste as a kiss on the cheek. Not even close.
