Gripping her coins tightly to her, Lola looked around the large casino room. There were people everywhere - slots, poker tables, Bingo. It almost seemed like a normal casino, except, y'know, for all the DEATH looming over everyone's heads.
Her face had yet to regain its color, the thought of losing her life just because she sucked at casino games forever present in her mind. Her bleach blonde hair had tousled itself up again, probably from all the head turning she'd been doing, searching for a familiar face in the crowd. Everyone was a stranger, a stranger searching for their own way out of this place.
Oh God, what was she going to do?

He was still in a daze after having been forced to choose to save the life of one person and simultaneously discard the life of another. Again and again he replayed the moment he stepped into the casino and each time it frustrated him further. He had considered turning back a thousand times, but instead he ignored his own common sense and went right in there anyway. With a grunt he looked down at the coins sitting in his palm, the coins that would either buy his life or end it.
When he looked up he noticed a somewhat familiar face in the crowd. Though he had never spoken with her before he had seen her around the district. She looked just as horrified and irked by the situation as most, but he approached her anyway. “Well, I suppose gambling is quite the appropriate term now isn’t it?” He likely should have gone with a more serious approach, but Nate was always attempting to seem cool in a horrible situation when around others.

She looked up, realizing the voice was addressing her. For a brief moment, a small smile curled up at the ends of her lips before fading away only a moment later.
"I saw you in the prison. Before, during. Well, you know." She shook her head, trying to clear her fuddled thoughts, "I'm sorry for not introducing myself before now, I'm Lola. Lola Malcom."
Lola hadn't made a great deal of effort in getting to know her faction-mates, but she'd remembered seeing the young man around the prison yard - he had been one of the guards in the building, when the outbreak happened. His height is what she recalled, the tall man looming over her as her husband did. While he wasn't Al, he was a relief to see, all the same.
"Yeah, gambling our lives away...literally."
The thought sent another squeeze to the coins in her hand. "So you ended up here too, huh? I wonder how many others are stuck here too."

It was almost a relief to find a haunting shadow cross her features when she spoke of the night of the outbreak. Though he knew many had suffered, he always felt selfish in the way he allowed it to constantly cloud his thoughts. Raising the hand devoid of the death coins he shook his head and smiled. “You have absolutely nothing to be sorry about; I was pretty much a hermit so it wasn’t like I made any effort.” He chuckled before dropping his hand and extending it to her for a handshake. “It’s nice to meet you Lola, though I wish it were under different circumstances.” With a feeble shrug he went on. “My name is Nathaniel, but because that is way too much of a mouthful I go by Nate.”
His attentions once more turned to the coins warming in his clenched fist as she spoke about gambling their lives away. He still couldn’t get over how ridiculous all of this was in comparison to the infected roaming around. He had defeated a mob, yet here he was cowering because of some dumb casino tokens. He placed a hand on her shoulder and squeezed it gently in an attempt to console her before glancing around them. “Against my better judgment,” he laughed, “I even thought about staying away but I couldn’t help myself.”
The crowd seemed to grow with each moment as more were shown through the doors past the room where, he suspected, they also had to choose to save and end a life. “Too many…” Shaking his head he refrained from going down that dark path. “So, did you ever spend time in a place like this on a vacation or anything? A normal casino I mean..” He laughed.

I figured since we've hit our post count, we can discover our additional 10 and move on to trying to get more? No rush, if you'd rather stay and chat though!
She shook his hand, also wishing that it was under different circumstances. Granted, she probably would never be friends with a cop (or guard or whatever they called themselves these days) considering her husband's line of work, but finding a friendly face in a crowd of despairing ones was pleasant for her weary soul. "It's nice to meet you, regardless, Nate."
Her smile turned into a curt laugh, joining him after hearing his comment about being unable to stay away. It was true, though, especially judging by the number of people that swamped the casino floor. It was surprising that they had any room to talk with one another, considering the crowds that were growing in every area.
"I've been to a few, pre-apocalypse. They weren't much different than this one....well, except they had more drinks and less impending doom."
Man, she could really go for another cocktail right now. Maybe she'd be able to get one as a last request, if she didn't reach her coin count in time.
"The worst thing you could expect from the other joints was losing all your money in one night or losing your outfit to the smell of smoke."
The memory of smoke-ruined blouses brought back a chuckle. She hadn't hit it big back then, either. Ah well. "So can I ask how many yo-"
Her words froze in her throat as she spotted something glittering in the corner of her eye. Were those...could it be...
Dozens of pairs of legs walked by, but none seemed aware of the golden coins scattered across the carpet, next to one of the fake potted plants.
"Nate," she hissed softly, "Look!"

That is fine. ^^ We should definitely rp again one of these days though! When we are not desperately searching for coins haha.
[+10 coins for 450 words = Total of 74]
He chuckled at her comment about the drinks and doom, had the world been different perhaps they would have met in a place like that instead of a place like this though he doubted it. It would be more likely that he would have been called into this place to keep someone in line or even arrest someone; he wouldn’t have had much of a chance to talk with anyone. Now con and cop seemed like ancient terms used long ago to describe factions that no longer existed in a place full of zombies. Everyone was working together in an effort to reclaim the world they once knew, or to at least survive in this new one.
He looked down at his ragged clothes and tugged at the hastily darned sweatshirt he wore. “I would hate to lose this outfit.” He teased, though he really wasn’t a fan of the smell of smoke either. He was about to add another witty comment when something caught her attention and she motioned for him to look. He too saw the coins and was shocked that they hadn’t been claimed before.
“Ladies first.” He said with a smile as they prepared to pick up the coins.

I agree completely!
She practically threw herself down onto the ground, hands reaching out and grabbing the golden coins as if her life depended on it.
Well, really, it sort of did.
Who in the world would have let such precious things get out of their sight?
She started counting them in her hand, 1...2...3...4..., flipping each one as though she were inspecting it, ensuring they were indeed Casino Coins. All in all, there were twenty - twenty - that someone had either misplaced or forgotten during their hurry to collect more coins. If she were a righteous person, she would seek out the owner. But, considering what was on the line for everyone in the casino...who wouldn't claim to be the coins' owner?
Finders keepers, as far as she was concerned.
"Here." She dropped half of the coins into Nate's hand. "Split it up, it's only fair, right?"
Flashing him a smile and then giving his arm a squeeze, she nodded her head. "Well, Nate, it's been great to meet you - I think it's time I try to finish up the rest of my coin hunt. See you on the outside, okay?"
With that, she was off, re-energized into completing her mission and finding Al.
