She awoke from her catnap - wait, was it still dark?
The watch on her wrist read midnight...how long had she been asleep? It had been exhausting after their afternoon bout of cardio, but she hadn't expected to sleep that long. And where were the others? Where was Al?
Glancing around, not a soul was in sight. Crap.
Lola was on the verge of uttering some highly unladylike things when all of a sudden, an eruption of fireworks blew up across the sky. Her eyes immediately widened - what in the hell??
Scrambling to her feet, curiosity got the better of her and she made her way towards where the fireworks seemed to be coming from. The entire display was lasting for more than several minutes - yet none of the undead around them seemed to take notice of the bright, loud party in the darkened sky above. She, however, made sure not to draw their attention as she continued to sneak her way towards....wait. What?
Oh sweet Lord, it was a casino.
The end of times was coming and there still remained a casino. And where there was a casino, there was sweet, sweet alcohol and gobs of money to be had.
Had she died? Was this possibly her form of Heaven?
DELTA CASINO blinked in its magnificent LED colors, beckoning her forward. She complied, wholeheartedly. Heaven or not - she was going to find refuge in this place and no one was about to stop her.

It was real.
Fingers pinched the inside of her left arm and the sting was painful. This wasn't a dream. This wasn't some crazy fantasy her thirsty, tired mind had created as a mirage. This was a real casino!
The smoke filled her lungs as soon as she walked through the doors. The chimes and bells of the casino slots cheered over the sounds of a hundred conversations going on all at once. People were playing games, people were smoking - there were people there and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves.
She barely took another step forward when she found herself once again overwhelmed - this time, by a waiter (from the looks of it), cutting her off and handing her a cocktail. Sweet Jesus, what had she done to deserve this?
"Welcome to Delta Casino," he said cheerfully, his empty tray moving to his side as his free hand made a welcoming gesture. His suit and vest looked fancy indeed - but wasn't that the thrall of a casino's job, to make everything appear in top condition? "To begin, we will play with a currency called Casino coins. You can use them later for fabulous prizes!"
From out of nowhere, coins appeared in his hand, in two nicely shaped, aligned rows. She held out her free hand and took them - free coins? It was suspicious, sure, but not completely unheard of. Casinos always were trying to rope customers in by freebies and gimmicks... maybe this Delta place was really desperate for some traffic, thus the free first set of coins?
"T-thank you." She stammered, still attempting to adjust to her new surroundings as the waiter waltzed off, no doubt to find his next victim.
She rubbed a few of the coins in between her fingers, dropping the rest in one of her pockets. A sip of the cocktail sent a warm buzz through her - oh, how she'd missed the sweet sensation of alcohol running down her throat.
The poker tables, the black jack booths, the slots... all of it looked so tempting....then again, she should probably wait and try to find Al...
Al! Where was he? Would he find his way to this Heavenly place?
....but maybe she should try her luck on one of the machines, in the meantime. After all.... she did have some free coins to blow, right?
A free seat became available practically in front of where she was standing, as if a sign from Fate that she should at least give a slot machine a go or two. After all, it's not like she couldn't keep watch for her husband from a machine - no thinking requirements necessary for slots, not like the skill it took for poker or BJ. She'd do those later, after she found Al.
Sliding into the seat, she took another sip of her cocktail - mmm - and slipped a coin into the slot. A pull on the handle and awaaaaaaaaaay the numbers went!
Another two coins plopped out with tiny sounds of tink tink below the machine. Well, this certainly wasn't any big way to win, but she seemed to be making more than losing, at least.
With a last attempt, she yanked down hard on the handle.
"C'mon, big boy," she whispered under her breath.

With an additional two coins, the woman now pocketed her grand total of 56 coins and patted her pocket, for good measure.

Feeling rather bored of the slow-winning machines, she stood up, eager to stretch her legs and figure out a faster way to make some dough (or, y'know, eventually find good 'ol hubby).
The moment she stood up, however, her head began to spin. There was a lightheaded feeling that overtook her, forcing her to practically slam down the mostly-finished cocktail in her right hand. The glass cracked, but she didn't hear it - she was too busy falling to the floor as her eyes rolled into the back of her skull.

The first thing she noticed, when she came to, was that her head hurt. It hurt a lot.
Eyelids fluttered open, her vision hazy at first. It took a few minutes for her sight to adjust to her surroundings - it became abundantly clear that she couldn't even rub her eyes to assist, as her arms were now tied behind her back.
What?
Everything was dark, but there were clearly people around her. From the mutters and whispers, she didn't think she was the only one confused at their current predicament.
All at once, bright lights lit up the room, revealing...not much of any clue, followed by the booming voice hidden by the giant speakers on the wall.
"Attention all Casino players! Welcome to our tenth annual casino games! A big round of applause to our new players!"
What in the ********' world...
She tried to turn her head and look around, but she couldn't. Tied too tightly, she was forced to remain in her chair, trying to figure out what the bizarre speaker was talking about, not to mention the round of applause that came afterwards. What kind of game was this supposed to be?
As if to answer her question, the voice from the speakers spoke again.
"Now, let us explain the rules for the new casino players! All of you are given a number. There is a lucky lottery number drawing, if your number is drawn, you get to escape from here free. Lucky you! For everyone else, well, you are not so lucky. I'm afraid the only freedom for you comes from buying it. That's right, each of you have been given, and assessed a value. If you wish to escape, and you must do so by the end of this day, you must buy out your own value or we will buy you."
A shiver went down her spine as she felt her forehead grow clammy and begin to sweat. Lola wasn't too sure that she liked this kind of game.
"'How may I buy myself out?', you may ask. Well, that is simple! All you have to do is play any of our games in our casino with Casino Coins! When you have earned enough Casino Coins equal to your value, you may request to make a purchase. Now, we aren't heartless here. You may purchase yourself, or another player. You may even purchase both if you have enough! Wouldn't that be nice! Anyone left unpurchased will be property of the Casino, and be auctioned for our dinner fundraiser tonight."
Dinner? DINNER? Oh ******** of Jesus Christ himself, what in the ******** was she going to do? Was Al in here too? What about all the others from her faction? The little old lady with the amazing throwing arm? And how was she supposed to buy herself out? By playing more games??
"Any questions?" One per person please!"

ONE question? Only ONE after being presented with this ******** of a situation she was supposed to be trying to get herself out of??
She opened her mouth to blurt out the first thing that came to mind, but the announcer was quick to cut her - and anyone else with a question - off.
"Oh, I forgot," the announcer responds flippantly, "if you want to ask a question, you have to be responsible for a price. Unfortunately, since you don't have anything of value, we aren't obligated to give you anything in return!"
What the fu--
A squeak was the only thing she could omit as her chair suddenly found itself dragging across the ground and into another room entirely. She had enough room to glance over her shoulder and see a Casino worker as the responsible dragging-party, but there was nothing else to see. Not until she came to the next room, at least.
Sitting there were two individuals. A young lady, pretty lil thing, and a sweet looking young man. Both looked about as scared out of their wits as she did.
The voice decided it was time to talk, yet again.
"Now," booms the announcer voice in the new room, a much smaller one, "these are the losing players from the last game. A Bunch of sore losers if you ask me. But we're giving you a chance to redeem one as their patron. If you manage to buy yourself out of the games, then you will also buy one of them out too. Now, which one will it be?"
Oh Christ, he was giving her a goddamn Sophie's Choice about this?
She didn't want to pick, but at the same time, she didn't want to make them both lose in this horrible, inhumane game. ********. ******** pairs of sad eyes looked at her desperately, the whole notion breaking her heart in the process. Refusing to look at the young man, Lola nodded towards the girl.
Her voice was limp, about as limp as she felt. "Her. I'm sorry, sugar, I gotta stick with the lady. Girls lookin' out for girls and all."

As the woman was chosen, she immediately began to shriek and sob in relief, clearly overcome in her emotional state. The young man, however, began to scream but for entirely different reasons.
Two attendants rush him as he struggled, soon severing him from the chair in a horrifying way. Lola saw the blood and it turned her stomach. She avoided trying to see anything else, instead choosing to stare at the young lady she'd just saved as the man was taken from the room by the attendants, kicking and screaming through the bandage covering his mouth.
Glancing back towards him, she caught a brief glimpse of the room he was being taken to. She didn't want to see what was going to happen to him in that room - the game seemed terrible enough as it was, without adding more guilt to her already distressed conscience. There was no way she was going to question what was in that room.
The attendants ushered her and the other woman into a mirror-free room with the instructions (or rather, permission?) to clean themselves up. With trembling hands, they both complied, straightening up frazzled hair, rubbing the smeared mascara from their tear-stained eyes and readjusting their wrinkled clothing.
It wasn't long before the attendant returned, this time taking the young woman away as she whispered a soft "Thank you" towards Lola before being carried away.
Lola, however, was ushered down a hallway, a lone door at the end.
The door opened and Lola sucked in a breath.

Casino Coins: 50 (base) + 6 (winnings) = 56 total

She was back in the casino.
The noises, the smells, everything was the same as it had been when she'd first entered what she felt was a glorious escape from the treacherous world outside.
But the lights weren't as welcoming as before, a sinister glow coming from the twinkling LEDs. The chattering people were no longer happy chatterers, but fellow players in this warped game of life and death. The smell was not welcoming, but a stench that clouded her nostrils.
This wasn't Heaven at all. This was Hell and she was going to have to find her way out before it took her down with it.
