Adelaide was mighty suspicious when she managed to wake up the next day with her dislocated shoulder healed. Now, she knew she was damn good at the medical side of things, but...that damn good? Something was going on.
Another odd thing going on? Fireworks. When she hit the yard and shielded her eyes from the sight, Adelaide had to ask herself if this was really the apocalyptic scenario she had been dreaming about. No "real" zombies, no "real" drama, radio chatter suggesting it was all a game, and now this? She harumphed but knew she couldn't merely ignore the signs that something big was going down. So, with a few fixes of her dual parka layer and a new grey sweater she had scavenged earlier (now pleased she could wear them all properly with her arm fixed up), the older woman began to pick her way through the remnants of civilization towards A New Hope.
(Sarcastically, she might add. Especially once she realized that this was a casino everyone was heading towards.)
"Always knew these things would be gambles," she said to herself with a snort, "but not literally."

Upon arrival, she saw stars--almost literally. Lights of every kind were flashing, and the noise seemed to wash over her like a tidal wave, first pushing and then pulling inexorably in. Something was definitely up, now. Was the Junkyard up to something? How the hell did they manage to get this much power in such a short time, and why only show up now? A waitress in a crisp uniform offered her a cocktail, however, and the smell put those suspicions to rest, if for just a moment.
"Cheers," Adelaide said with a cackle before partaking. No point in poisoning them, she figured, or drugging them; she saw plenty of people walking about just fine at any rate. And God damn, who wouldn't want some booze before the end of this hot mess?
Such was her pleasure that she didn't notice her bad roll with the slots.

"C'mon now, show mom some sugar," she cooed at the machine as she pulled the lever again. Adelaide wasn't a huge gambler, but she liked her odds with a crooked machine more than with crooked people. Though her eyes did keep listing towards the tables.

"That's what I'm talking about, heh!" Adelaide grined as she pulled in her small but welcome pile.

In retrospect, maybe she shouldn't have taken a drink at all. The blur of games, the flashing lights, the welcoming staff...Her need to drink had clouded her common sense. And now there she was in some...was this a classroom? Alright then. Tied up to boot. <********> Well, at least she wasn't the only sucker here by the sounds of it.
So according to the Disembodied Douche, they had to pay their way out, huh? Well, if Lady Luck had shown anything before, she was pretty sure she'd get out tooth sweet. But...s**t. The boys. Adelaide's face grew stern as she started considering the hiking prices: her sons, her teammates, maybe even The Boss...Nah. Boss probably had it handled. Still, that sounded like a lot of playing ahead in her future to get out of here.
"The hell is going on here now?" she couldn't help but ask. Unfortunately, that had incurred a price the older woman hadn't expected. Two poor souls were dragged in, each in their own state of despair and desperation, and Adelaide was faced with a decision to...be a patron? Jesus, did she have to tack on another person's price to the already high one? She huffed a sigh to herself and just went with gut impulse rather than deliberate, nodding towards the young man. He reminded her of her sons--albeit even whimpier than Dazs.
The woman of course began to scream, and Adelaide almost shut her eyes to avoid looking at her. But because she didn't, she was witness to the young boy's attempt at escape. "You idiot!" she tried to shout, but the sudden spray of gunfire cut her off. So now two dead people on her account.
She probably should have felt guiltier, but it was that jackass' fault for making this a lose-lose. "What a freaking waste," the announcer said, and she couldn't agree more.
