A day has passed, and for some reason, your wounds have healed surprisingly well. Maybe it is the strange vines growing around the city (for the lack of a better word), or maybe it is your resilience having survived for so long. It has been over twenty-four hours since the scuffle started in zone one, and it is dark again, on the midnight of the following day. Is it just your imagination or is each day stretching even longer now?
As you are pondering several thoughts at once, you hear a loud roar in the distance. They are coming from the sky above you, and you can't help up stare up in disbelief. Fireworks. For a moment, all you do is stare, and stare, and wonder what on earth anyone could have been thinking. Your first reaction is the undying. They are attracted to noise after all, and lights. Or at least, they seem to be.
However, nothing happens. Not a single sign of the undying or infected move towards the obnoxious fireworks display. It continues for a good five minutes.
There is of course, the natural curiosity. If there are fireworks perhaps there are other supplies to scavenge, perhaps there is more than just mere shambles of civilization. Could they have been rescue flares? It was hard to tell. Whatever the reasoning behind it, you finally move towards the source.
In front of you is an even gaudier display. First of all are the lights, hundreds of thousand, flashing lightbulbs and LED displays that would make a Vegas casino pale in comparison. The building is gigantic, made of several brightly lid compounds. A sign in the front, flashing in thousands of white and red lights reads [ DELTA CASINO ]. You can't help but stare and then incredulously wonder where they are even getting the power from. For a minute it is easy to forget that this is the end of the world, as you are subconsciously drawn to the warmth of the light.
You step forward, and open the casino doors.
Okay so she could talk now and move her arm all of a sudden?! Leiah looked around at the vines that were surrounding the area, a feeling of panic and phobia coming over her. Every time she saw the vines she was reminded of the radio broadcast she heard. If this person was correct, then these vines were something else entirely, kind of like some sort of ******** up resident evil sort of thing where the Umbrella corporation thought it would be funny to do testing on Raccoon city and it got out of control since the T-Virus was released into the city. Everyone except for a few became flesh-eating zombies [Which they have] or some sort of freaky bio-weapon [The undying?].Either way, she had a sinking feeling that none of them would be making it out when the seventh day arrived.
They wont let you leave now
These thoughts filled Leiah's head as she cautiously walked up to the casino with the rest of her fellow rats, worrying her lip. Then she jumped out of her skin when she heard the fireworks next, almost clinging to the person beside her since she couldn't find drew at the moment. Why the hell are they popping off fireworks when the zombies could hear them?! It made no sense! Unless the fireworks actually repelled them instead of attracting them. Kinda like repellent on the numerous Pokemon games except this one never ran out when you walked/ran the amount of steps it required...
Wait....None of the zombies were moving...At least towards the source of the noise that is. Weird. Leiah frowned, but started to move her feet then, curious about why the fireworks didn't attract the zombies like it would've done if any one of them decided to pop some off. As Leiah got closer to the structure, she saw an extremely bright and powerful sigh in front of her that said Delta Casino. She had to squint for a second before giving it the stank eye. Why would a casino still be operational? Didn't everything loose power or something like that?! This was getting stranger and stranger by the second...
However, she could feel the warmth radiating off of the building and so she walked forward, pushing the door open to the casino and stepping inside.

The inside of the casino was weird and inviting at the same time, which confused Leiah a bit. She wandered around, panicking at the loud noises and people playing enthusiastically. She’s never been to a casino before so all this could be normal? She didn’t know really…Her nose began to pick up a particular smell she often associated with her mother and stepfather, which caused her to look around before she realized that there was no way they could be here , they were possibly dead or worse. Leiah didn’t get along with them often, but that didn’t mean she didn’t wish for their safety and wellbeing. The scent of alcohol and cigarettes caused her to gag a bit and she used some of the hair from her wig to cover her nose. Ugh she did not miss that smell at all…
Leiah started walking around more, peering over shoulders and taking in the sights, wondering how the hell people could just casually play games round here when others were getting eaten or worse[They could be becoming bio weapons for the “umbrella” Corporation] perhaps this casino made you forget about the outside world? She knew it could happen; her dear old great grandmother was a testament to that. She kept wandering, not looking as usual, while barely managing to bump into what she could only be described as a younger looking Alfred from batman offering her some sort of expensive a** cocktail. Leiah usually didn’t like to drink much if not at all, but with all the recent activities and the semi-relaxing atmosphere [minus the loud pop music in the background], she figured a stiff one wouldn’t be so bad…
She took the drink, almost gulping it down before looking at the coins with suspicion she should’ve used on the drink, smiling. “Ummmn….Thank you I guess?” She took the coins, walking with more bounce in her step towards the slots, flopping down and reading the instructions as she pulled the lever. She jumped up in her seat when she saw that she won four coins right off the bat! Nice! She took one final sip of her cocktail before pulling the lever a second time.

The second pull yielded two more coins and Leiah was starting to think that her luck was beginning to slip. In fact, the happy buzz she was feeling from the cocktail was beginning to fade as well. Was there some kind of drug in these drinks? Oh god she hopped not. The last thing she needed was to be drugged and used for god knows what. Leiah looked at the slot machine for a couple of minutes before pulling the lever again, pocketing the two coins that came from her second winning. “I hope whatever ploy this is, it doesn’t involve a man-eating tribe of undead cannibals or something…#Thewalkingdeadrainforestedition with a side of #survivor...I’ve never missed twitter as much as I do now…"

As Leiah pulled the lever for the third time, she was starting to get a bit dizzy and hot. Ugh. Maybe it was all the lights beaming down on her? She refused to think it was that lovely cocktail, because why would a casino want to drug you? Wouldnt they rather you stayed awake so they could take your hard earned money?...Yeah, it was the light right?
A little bit of time has passed, and you begin to feel sweaty and dizzy. Did you drink anything? Did you smoke something? Was it something you touched? Your senses begin to blur and before you know it, everything turns dark.
When you wake up, your body feels heavy and sore. You are tied to a chair, and as your senses slowly stir, realize you are in a dark room. You hear the heavy breathing and then muttering noises of other people: you are not alone. The lights suddenly turn on, flooding everything to a blinding white. For a moment you can't see, and your eyes water, struggling to find balance.
A voice booms in front of you, but the sound is muffled at first. You strain, and finally, all your senses align, and you are able to see the room around you, set up classroom style out of all things, and are able to hear the person in front of you. Not a person, just speakers in the room.
"Attention all Casino players! Welcome to our tenth annual casino games! A big round of applause to our new players!"
A round of applause plays off. You realize this was meant for you and those in the room. Your ropes are bound so tight, you cannot even speak or turn around to see who is around you.
"Now, let us explain the rules for the new casino players! All of you are given a number. There is a lucky lottery number drawing, if your number is drawn, you get to escape from here free. Lucky you! For everyone else, well, you are not so lucky. I'm afraid the only freedom for you comes from buying it. That's right, each of you have been given, and assessed a value. If you wish to escape, and you must do so by the end of this day, you must buy out your own value or we will buy you."
"'How may I buy myself out?', you may ask. Well, that is simple! All you have to do is play any of our games in our casino with Casino Coins! When you have earned enough Casino Coins equal to your value, you may request to make a purchase. Now, we aren't heartless here. You may purchase yourself, or another player. You may even purchase both if you have enough! Wouldn't that be nice! Anyone left unpurchased will be property of the Casino, and be auctioned for our dinner fundraiser tonight."
The announcement stops. And then continues again.
"Any questions?" One per person please!"
The young lady
Dont question what's in the room
Gosh was it hot in here, or was it just her? Leiah looked around her, dazed and confused, stumbling around for a bit. She just knew there was something in that damned cocktail! Now her walking dead rainforest edition theories were going to come true! Now she was going to be taken off to be eaten or worse! Soon the drug became too much for Leiah and she fell to the floor, blacking out.
When Leiah came to, she groaned, feeling like she was reliving her first and only hangover she’s ever had. Her body felt like she’d just ran a marathon, her head was hurting like she hit it against the wall one to many times and she couldn’t focus because her vision was swimming every time she tried. Where the ******** was she? Her answer came in the form of blinding white lights, shining down on her along with some other faces she recognized. Why couldn’t she move? Hell why couldn’t she speak?
"Attention all Casino players! Welcome to our tenth annual casino games! A big round of applause to our new players!"
Wait what?! Casino games? What the ******** was this? Some sort of hunger games spin off where you kill each other with how ever many matches you win in slots?! Oh hell! Leiah tried to speak and move once more, but she was rooted to the spot. When she heard the bit about buying your freedom, the first thing that came to mind was human trafficking and stripping. Since this was a casino she didn’t think that either of those would happen here. She had plans to buy her freedom and that of any mall rats in need as the announcer kept talking. She briefly heard the words “buy” “another”, along with the sentence: “Anyone left un-purchased will be property of the Casino, and be auctioned for our dinner fundraiser tonight”
She KNEW it! Sure they weren’t a tribe in the rainforest but she gathered that the dinner fundraiser wasn’t what it seemed. Sure she didn’t have enough evidence, but she would bet her long lost phone that these people ate anyone that wasn’t able to buy themselves or be bought by another player. God this was all very sickening, but it also made sense and linked with that she heard from Megan in the meeting that happened not even a day before, about the bandits talking about fraction cows and a lottery. Geezus…
She was about to try moving again when she was jerked forward by the sudden force the casino attendant used to drag her chair in to another room separate from everybody else. Why, she didn’t know but she hopped it didn’t involve her being gnawed on by grandpa gummy gums or something as grotesque as that.
"these are the losing players from the last game. A Bunch of sore losers if you ask me. But we're giving you a chance to redeem one as their patron. If you manage to buy yourself out of the games, then you will also buy one of them out too. Now, which one will it be?"
Wait now she had to choose someone to save?! Already?! Wow, these guys wasted no time it seemed. Leiah began to sweat as she looked between the two, while the young man seemed youthful and scared, he also gave her the feeling that he just didn’t care anymore as well with how calm he was being. They young woman looked to be around her age, and she was gorgeous! Not to mention she could already tell that the woman would be more grateful [and hopefully more helpful] if she choose her. Leiah worried her lip and looked to the young woman, nodding her head in her direction. She knew she picked right when she heard the cries of relief coming from her.
She tried her best to ignore the voice in the back of her head that said she may have just sent a child to his death just because he didn’t look like her would appreciate her saving him. She tried her best to ignore the screams and the clear sign of a scuffle, looking in the direction he would’ve been in had she chosen to pick him.
She wished she hadn’t looked in his direction at all once she caught a glimpse of the room the young man was being dragged into. She could only make out the sight of blood and a slip of what could be a clear plastic apron hanging on the wall, smattered with an unknown substance. She didn’t need to ask any questions to know what that room was for…
She was brought into the next room with the woman whose life she choose to save, staring at the first washroom she’s seen in days, cleaning herself as thoroughly as she can. When she was done, she saw the lady one last time, giving her a shaky nod in return for her thank you as she’s dragged away to hopefully what she thought was safety. The walk down the hallway was a long one and the silence was killing her. It didn’t last long and soon she was right by a door where she could hear the faint noises of the casino. With a nervous draw of breath, she stepped through the door as it opened.

”Oh mai this one’s quite thin don’t you think?”“No I think she’s just right. I mean look at the hind quarters! So plump and round! Would make for a good roast if cooked properly…”“Ah! I see what you’re saying now, yes yes…Well since you’re healthy, that’s ten coins added! What’s your age m’dear?”
They were talking about her like she was some sort of cow on the market! Leiah didn’t know whether she should feel insulted or creeped out so she opted for both. “Why don’t you tell me your age first and Ill consider hummmn? You both look dreadfully withered…” Both of the attendants glared at her, scribbling down some extra facts on their tablet just in case she didn’t buy out her freedom. “Just for that rude mouth of yours, we’re going to say that you’re probably 17 since a mature woman wouldn’t stoop so low as to insult her betters.”“Plus 50 coins!” Wait, what are they, professors in the potter verse? “That’s 50 points from Gryffindor!” she mumbled sarcastically in her best snape impression, which wasn’t very good at all.
The two elder women tsked and moved on, adding coins for ridiculous things like if she had all her limbs, her hair, and if she had both eyeballs because apparently that’s a delicacy among some of the higher end buyers. Then they tacked on coins for her things and a whopping ten coins for her radio. “Hey! That’s mine you douchebag! Give it back!”“Oh my word language! Ugh the mouth on this one!” The two ladies gave her a cool look and brought what could only be described as a collar towards her, snapping it around her neck. Leiah’s seen enough movies to know what would possibly happen if she tried to take it off, not to mention the fact that she’d been reading a lot of the suicide squad comics before the “outbreak” so she could be up to date whenever the movie came out next summer.
Fat chance of seeing Will Smith now…
The old ladies touched a button on the back of her collar and slapped a piece of paper in her hands before sending her on her way back into the casino. Leiah looked down on the paper and growled. It held the warnings of “Foul mouth and immature”. Really?! And her collar displayed that she was worth 120 coins. She sighed and made her way to where ever she could be on the floor. She had 24 hours to be free and damn it she was going to do it.
