The casino was everything that October didn't like.

Loud. Gaudy. Flashy. Noisy. He could sleep pretty much everywhere - he still staunchly maintained that it was a gift, thank you very much (here was looking at you, Alex and Brie) - but at the same time, having to deal with all of the chaos around him wasn't exactly an inviting prospect. He supposed it was unavoidable; perhaps he could call the others, see if they would keep him company while he dwindled away the lengthening days, but, well, that would involve effort. And October was nothing if not supremely lazy. Exerting effort had to be something carefully considered, because otherwise it would have just been a waste of time.

The casino seemed to be the very definition of effort, but at the same time it was so different than the monotony of his usual every day life so far that October found himself strangely drawn to it. He wished it was less gaudy; that was kind of putting him off, but at the same time...

Electricity.

He gravitated towards the casino, somewhat reluctantly, and shuffled through the doors, umbrella clutched tightly in his hands.

He disliked the scent of smoke, but the alcohol was rather nice - October did like a good drink every now and then, and considering how limited supplies had been for the past month, he had hardly had a drop of anything other than just tepid water or stale beer. This was strong and almost overpowering, but not altogether unpleasant.

He gave a wary look to the attendant but accepted the drink and took the tiniest of sips, not quite trusting anything. October pocketed the coins he was given and then meandered away. There were a great deal of flashing lights happening all around him, but one game in particular looked as though it didn't require a great deal of thinking - or effort.

Seating himself on the little stool, October carefully arranged his umbrella to rest on his lap, over his knees, and reached for the lever, pulling down.

Well, he'd gotten something out of it. October tried again, just because it was a simple thing - pull lever, get good things.

He tried once more, just for kicks, and it was his best one yet.

He was dizzy and confused by the end of it, October sliding off of his stool and staggering a little. The end of his umbrella pressed into the carpeting beneath his feet, and he stumbled forward, swaying drunkenly from side to side. Annoyed at his lack of balance, he tried to take yet another step - and then nothing at all came to him except darkness.

He liked darkness. He liked sleep.

He did not like being woken up to noise.

Onstage, October blinked blearily, lashes feeling heavy as he tried to sort through his hazy mind. He wondered dimly if it was possible to just leave, to get up and walk away, but his entire body felt sluggish, unable to move. The sudden flash of bright lights pulled a whine from him, October squeezing his eyes shut, stars exploding in his line of vision as a voice boomed out around him.

Buy himself out? He didn't answer, didn't respond, October clamping his mouth shut - but then he found himself being dragged, chair and all, into another room, and two other people were there, tied to their chairs as well, looking -

- well, terrified. October's chest tightened as he watched them, his expression growing darker and darker with each passing word. He was being used; given a choice, and he disliked being forced into exchanging one life for another. What would happen if he chose wrong? What would happen if he didn't choose at all? What would happen to the one he didn't pick? The both looked so young and frightened, neither one of them should have been stuck in this position -

Too many variables. October shut out the sounds in his head and gave a quick, succinct nod in the young man's direction, eyes sliding apologetically to the lady.

Two screams and a few bullets later, and he regretted ever setting foot in the casino in the first place. He could still hear the sounds ringing, could still hear the girl's shrieks and the thump of a body on the ground as the young man had been downed, quick and fast.

October's legs shook as he walked through the door.
