It didn't matter that Monica had been promoted. Grunt work was grunt work, and she still had to get it done. Or, someone did, anyway. They didn't even really have enough people that she could slack off and give orders instead. Not that Monica was really a sitting-around-giving-orders kind of girl. She liked being able to get in on the action. Thus, here she was. She dusted herself off and stumbled outside with a yawn. Between socializing and making sure Corgi was okay, she was kind of beat.

It was clear enough that everyone else was still keeping up, though. Monica smiled when she didn't see any bodies on the fence. That meant her shift was just sitting down - awesome.
She did just that, watching and waiting for something to show up, as it inevitably would.
She watched a trail of ants march past her and into the prison. They hadn't even seemed to notice the apocalypse, she mused. Just doing the same thing they always were: getting into people's food.
In all fairness, most of the food that still survived was stuff that didn't perish. Cans, sealed bags of chips. Potatoes. Ants couldn't really get into any of that stuff, although she supposed they eventually might go for the kitchen's leftovers. It wasn't very likely, though.
A loud, angry buzz alerted Monica to a new arrival. Yep, the requisite dead body. You'd think the presence of corpses around the prison would deter creepie crawlies from coming near, right? But there they were every day, stupid as ever. Closer and closer. Monica jogged over, taking her fishing rod out of her backpack and - ooh! This one wasn't even that high on the fence. She'd definitely be able to reach it.
She stood up on her toes and popped it away from her, but winced as she felt a telltale zap encompass her hand. Ugh.
Well, she'd made some progress; that had to count for something. And it wasn't on their fence any more.
Her hour was up. Time to head back in and report.
