Blindness had a way of rendering people limited in their abilities. Having had all she could take out in the zones, Sunny returned to the mall after a generous member had the moments to turn her in the right direction. Being blind wasn't easy, but at least the Mall Rats knew how to work together well.
The arcade was easy to find with its familiar sounds. Idle game music, the occasional smashing of buttons, and cheers - or curses- of the games machines' players. Exhausted, Sunny wandered in and hugged the machines against the wall.
"What use do I have anymore?" she asked herself. Sunny sighed and moved forward, bumping into a machine. Something fell and a haunting groan sounded. Her heart raced, An infected?! It wasn't until a loud welcoming audio played that the source became clear:
"Undying House The Third, Part Four, The Beginning of the End! Survive the ghouls and foul spooks! " Gosh was that a mouthful. Must be the newest edition.
It was that spooky shooting game everyone liked playing. She hadn't heard its usual sounds so thankfully it was unoccupied and she didn't mess someone's game up.
Sunny felt for the gun that must have fell and picked it up. "Might as well unwind," she laughed. Maybe she could at least do that still.

Sunny felt around for the big start button in the middle of the machine's stand. It wasn't difficult to find; she had remembered playing games like these at the movies as a kid. For a moment she savored the warmth of the large round button. Though she couldn't see it, she knew it must have that familiar lighting glow.
She gave the button and push and listened to the audio. Characters were exchanging dialogue and then soon groans and gnashing of teeth were heard.
"Cover me!" The NPC shouted. Sunny aimed her gun in the direction of the audio, firing randomly.
Ooh god I don't even know where they are. Different noises sounded off. Different noises sounded off. Some resembled typical negative boo-hoo-you-missed signifiers and others sounded like squishes and shrieks. Sunny assumed those had to be hits and kept firing until a loud wailing scream sounded and dissipated. Then she moved on to another direction until the noises registered.
Her finger pulled rapidly at the trigger. If she couldn’t see, the only best course of action was spontaneous rapid fire. The squishing and shrieks stopped with a bland click, click, click.
“Reload! Reload!” some generic voice spouted from the machine’s speakers. With a quick flick of the wrist, Sunny aimed the gun down and back up again. She heard the sound of the fake gun loading and could fire shots again. These shooting games were all the same; you just aim off-screen to load.
It was a crap shoot, but Sunny thought she had to be doing well. At least three of the enemies had died according to the sounds. Admittedly she knew she had taken some hits too though. Another cut scene aired and the NPC spoke to Sunny again.
“You made it. Boy, do you look beat up.” Sunny frowned. Well, no one was perfect right? “This place feels different.. but never mind that superstitious crap. We need to find my sister. We’ll split up. You take the route out the garden, I’ll go through the rooms.” A series of footsteps came from the speakers and then Sunny heard more gnashing. She fired rapidly in random areas, reloading and counting the shrieks.
One, two, three, four! That makes seven total.

A strained shout sounded from the speakers. "Hey! Over here!" It was a woman's voice. Must be the NPC's sister you're supposed to be looking for.
Dramatic music played as a roar bellowed out next. Oh no. Was this a boss? "Don't just stare, help! Ah-aaah!. A disturbing squish sounded from the machine and fast-paced music started. Then a strange, deep laugh boomed from the speakers. What kind of sadistic game was this?
I don't think I can do this, she thought as she picked a spot to start firing. Sunny fired randomly at the screen and while yes, there were hits signaled by deep grunts, and more hits after fateful "Reload! Reload! Reload!," it didn't last long as another squish sounded. A sad "Game Over" was announced.
Sunny frowned. "Well darn." She put the gun back where she found it. A score initial input came up, unbeknownst to blind Sunny. It was ripe for the taking by whoever happened upon it next.
She didn't make it past the first boss, but Sunny recalled her score. "I'm satisfied with seven. Maybe that's actually pretty good." She'd have to come back later and look.
Hugging the wall and carefully moving on, Sunny explored deeper into the arcade. She made sure not to trip on anything dire. Who knows who was watching or what trouble an embarrassing mistake like that would bring.
