A few of the other’s had managed to find radios, however communication to anywhere on the outside world was still rather inaccessible. The looming radio tower was not something Harper any idea of how to use, let alone what sort of things lurked inside of it considering the frequent number of infected that lurked around outside. She wondered if maybe they had some sort of inkling deep down in their rotted minds what the tower was for and if that was the reason they were near it. With her shovel in hand Harper crept forward, it was slow process and took almost an hour for her to sneak and avoid the infected while dealing with her feet feeling like rubber and stars swirling around her head. Reaching the doors she crept in her body still lower to the ground as she headed for the stairs, hoping nothing lurked in the rooms below. Wires hung from the ceiling where the panels once hid their appearance. Reaching the room she stared, wires were everywhere as lines extended to various panels while others were unplugged laying on the floor. Finding a chair Harper pulled it up in front of one of the panels and tried to move the dials. She twisted a few of them before pulling out a few wires and reconnecting other ones, nothing sounded over the airways except the usually static. Even moving the dials every which way resulted in nothing. Pulling out the wires she looked for a few other ones, something a little further way that may or may not have been tried before. Sitting down she moved the dials again, something sounded as she passed over an area so went back to it slowing the dials down trying to hear what it said. It was some sort of emergency broadcasting announcement, a tower somewhere was still playing the only problem was Harper wasn’t sure if it was just a tape stuck on loop forever until the power died wherever it was or if someone really was behind it. She marked it down and tried another set of wires. Nothing but more static on the other end as she pulled the wires back out and dropped them to the floor.

Picking another set, she got a few voices but over the static there wasn’t much she could make out. Harper wrote them down as a maybe, a one day possibility. The next set of wires were much more useful, the words were more clearer here and there, a voice was giving some sort of report maybe. Choppers it said, supplies being sent out daily, seven days and then to nothing. Harper scrambled trying to find the voices again but nothing. Seven days? Supplies? Where? She wondered as she put in the next set of wires. Nothing but voices too lost among the static.

Harper tried a few more wires, more static until and audible hello sounded through and then nothing back to static. She found another set of wires still broadcasting the emergency warning, and another wires where a hello sounded again making her wonder if it was just another prerecorded message.

More static, more few audible words before being lost in the endless sea of static, as Harper tested more wires going through most of them with dismal hope. Another station with the prerecorded emergency broadcast and a few more static. After being there for over an hour she was ready to get moving, pulling up one last wire she listened expecting the same static sound to come over. Instead there was another voice, it was different from the one about shipping supplies and choppers. The undying, thorns, cannot be destroyed? Avoid? Contagious and spread and the worse words of all, never being able to leave, Harper stared as the voice stopped. There was nothing else there but static. She waited but a half hour passed by and nothing. Gathering her things up she left heading back to the Harbringer’s to give them her report of what wires had some value.
